Celebrating holiday traditions around the world with Skype

The holiday season is here, and the world is turning to Skype to keep in touch and send well wishes to loved ones around the world.

The thing we love most about this time of year is how differently everyone celebrates, from one family to the next and one country to another. In the spirit of the holidays, travel writer David Hoffman recently invited us along to celebrate the diversity of the season with him, letting us join in on his Skype catch-ups with close friends from all over the world.

Aside from seeing how his crew uses the Skype featureslike Highlights, video instant messaging, and video calls—the best part about the experience was that we got to see some interesting annual holiday traditions from around the world. David talked about traditional Christmas Eve sauna visits in Finland, last year’s giant lantern festival in the Philippines, leaving food out for the mythical witch Befana in Italy, and more.

There’s so much to celebrate this season, but celebrating our differences and diversity has to be one of the most rewarding experiences! So with that, Happy Holidays to your and all of yours, wherever they may be!
