Recommended Update Available for Mac Users

We've recently began offering our Mac users the latest version of Skype - Skype for Mac 5.1. This is not a forced update. You may see this notification pop up on your screen.

This update does not take place unless instructed to do so by you. Feel free to click 'Update' to accept the new version. Or if you prefer to 'Skip Version' or be reminded 'Later', that is also up to you. You can also select 'What's New?' or visit the Skype for Mac 5.1 download page to see what's included or to download this version.

Skype for Mac 5.1 includes the following:

• Group video calling
• Easier than ever to use with new mini-control bar
• Improved searching through contacts conversations and full integration of your Mac address book.

New version of Skype for Mac OS X coming soon

You may have noticed that we've just launched a new version of Skype for Windows, and I wanted to reassure you that our previous statement still stands: we're working hard to deliver group video calling to the Mac as quickly as possible.

But that's not all – we intend to give our app for Mac OS X a complete overhaul, both in terms of the way it looks, and in terms of functionality.

Group video calling coming to the Mac later this year

As you've no doubt seen on the Big Blog, we've launched a beta version of Skype for Windows which includes group video calling for up to 5 people.

I'd like to reassure you that we haven't forgotten about the Mac. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Our Mac team has been working harder than ever on a very exciting new version of Skype for Mac, which we expect to arrive later this year. It'll include group video calling, as well as one or two other surprises. Stay tuned!
