Skype 2.1 update for Symbian: Support for Nokia 701 and 603

Today we have released a Skype 2.1 update for Symbian.

This update brings to you a support for new smartphones Nokia 701 and Nokia 603 running on Symbian Belle.

Skype 2.0 for Symbian

Today we have released Skype 2.0 for Symbian.

In this new release we have introduced some new features, namely:

• Contact finder
• Send contacts
• Update Skype status automatically using your calendar
• Make emergency calls via PSTN
• We've also made some minor user interface updates and bugfixes.

Download the new version of Skype for Symbian from the Ovi Store, or from skype.com/m on your device's browser. If you prefer to install Skype via your computer, you can find specific download links to your Symbian flavor at the end of this post in the list of supported devices.

Some more details of the new features we're introducing:

Contact finder
You can now find out which of your friends in your phone's contact list are using Skype. In addition, you can show their phone numbers in your Skype contact list.

Send contacts
You can now share your contacts with other people on Skype.

Update Skype status automatically using your calendar
You can now set Skype to automatically change your online status to available/busy depending on your calendar status.

Make emergency calls via PSTN
In case you need to make emergency call and try to do it in Skype, it will now be routed through the PSTN. This feature works only on Symbian^3 devices.

Please bear in mind the following known issues while using Skype 2.0 on your Symbian device:

Skype 1.5 hotfix for Symbian^3 devices

We have released today a hotfix for Skype 1.5 for Symbian^3 devices.

This release resolves the issue with Skype crashing when using it in landscape mode.

Get the update from skype.com/m or download to install via your computer.

This updated release is only for Symbian^3 (Nokia N8 and Nokia C7) device users. If you have another Symbian device, you are not affected by this issue and you can continue to use your existing version of Skype.

We are delighted to let you know that we have just released a new version of Skype for Symbian.

The new version includes:

* support for the new Symbian^3 handsets (including the Nokia N8 and C7)
* Skype's SILK audio codec

Skype 1.1 hotfix for Symbian

We have just released a update for Skype 1.1 for Symbian touchscreen devices.

With this update we have worked hard to fix issues reported to us by our users. The fixes mainly being benefits to our users on Sony Ericsson mobile phones.

We reccomend for everyone to upgrade to the newly released version. To upgrade head over to Skype.com/m from your phone or install it via your computer with downloading the build for touchscreen devices or non-touchscreen devices (not updated).

The changes for the newly released version of 1.1.0.7 for Symbian touchscreen devices and known issues for all supported devices are:

Fixed issues:
* On Sony Ericsson phones sometimes there was no outgoing audio during incoming calls
* On Sony Ericsson phones occasionally users were unable to pick up an incoming call
* On Sony Ericsson phones improved readability of input boxes for sign in / new account screens when using default theme on phone.
* On Sony Ericsson phones it was not possible to pick up a call when phone was locked with password
* Password entry was not masked while entering it via virtual keyboard on touchscreen devices.

Known issues:
* On touchscreen devices setting "Online only" under "View" doesn't work properly, user has to back to the main menu and then into contacts again for change to have effect.
Current solution None available.
* On Nokia E71 automatic switching to number input in dial numbers field does not happen on devices with QWERTY keyboard
Current solution Will not be fixed. User need to switch input type manually via keyboard key.
* On non-touchscreen devices no error message is displayed if new account is created with empty email field. Error icon is still displayed besides e-mail field
Current solution None available.
* On Nokia E72 voicemail playback audio is mixed with regular PSTN call
Current solution None available.
* On non-touchscreen devices Sign out cannot be completed if initiated when client is not connected to network.
Current solution Reconnect manually before signing out or exit client.
* On non-touchscreen devices unblock option was missing from Contact list

* If two online numbers are purchased for an account and each has a different expiry date, the correct expiry date is shown for only one online number.

* In some cases the user's voicemail greeting type (custom or default) is not displayed correctly

* On Nokia N95 the volume level during a call cannot be controlled with the volume up/down keys
Current solution Move the joystick left and right to control the volume during a call.

* On Nokia E72 when answering an incoming phone call whilst listening to Skype's voicemail, the audio of both will be mixed

* On Nokia N97 and N97 mini occasionally, the call end button does not respond to key presses during a call

Skype 1.1 for Symbian

We have released a new version of Skype for Symbian.

In this version we have been focused on improving user experience on Skype.

We have added also a support for Sony Ericsson Satio, Vivaz, Vivaz Pro devices and also to few new Nokia models.

Head to Skype.com/m from your mobile to get the new version now or install via computer using installers for touchscreen or non-touchscreen devices.

We have improved Skype's login time and responsivness in this release and also reduced battery consumption up to 20%.

We've made in the apps user inteface where we have done quite a big overhaul, you'll see changes in - account panel, some keys assignements, settings panel. There are also few new options introduced for controlling notifications, using your mobile phone number as outgoing SMS sender and setting default file receiving locations on device.
