Skype for iPhone and iPad updated

You may have noticed that we've just launched an update to our Skype for iPhone and Skype for iPad apps today.

Updating the app gives you the following:

• Ability to move your own video preview during a video call.
• Improvements to the UI - specifically the contact list and chat input.
• User is logged back into Skype if the app shuts down while running in the background.
• Improved accessibility.
• General bug fixes.

Please also note that our iPhone and iPad apps will now only support iOS 4.3 and above.

We recommend that everyone upgrade to the newly released Skype for iPad and Skype for iPhone apps from the Apple App Store. We are always interested in hearing your feedback, so please report any issues to our Skype Support Network or on our public issue tracker.

Skype 1.0 for iPad

Today we have released Skype for iPad.

The new optimized Skype for iPad is designed to take full advantage of iPad2's dual cameras allowing users to enjoy Skype video calling with a host of other Skype applications over WiFi or 3G. Skype's first iPad-optimized app also takes advantage of the iPad's large screen for finding contacts and conversations.

Two-way video calling
Skype for iPad delivers VGA quality video at 15 frames/sec and connects with multiple Skype platforms including iPhones, Android, Macs, Windows PCs, and HDTVs. iOS version 4.0 or later required. iPad 1st Generation cannot send video, but does receive it.

Instant messaging during a video call
Users can send instant messages during a video call with emoticons.

Simple contact view
Contacts are displayed as large avatars in a grid layout allowing users to find contacts and conversations easily.

Easy Navigation
You can find recent conversations and search history easily at the touch of a button.

Simple SMS texting
Users can send SMS text messages by simply opening a contact or by opening the dial pad.

Known Issues:

Calling	If you are on a call from another device (not iPad), the iPad may get warning pop-ups that state: "Using another audio application has ended your Skype call" when you put the app in and out of foreground.	Dismiss pop up
Video call	The PIP may appear inappropriately rotated or as a gray/dark box.	Rotate the iPad to begin rendering it properly again. Turn video off then on again. Start video call over.
Video call	The video sent from iPad 2 may be rotated sideways on a Windows 5.5 machine.	Rotate the iPad several times. Turn video off then on again. Start video call over.
Notifications	For some inline messages, such as birthdays or authentication requests, the inline message content will not appear, however, the badge/notification will still update indicating there is something new for that user.	None
Chat	Some emoticons are rendered as text instead of the image.	None
Chat	In rare cases, a full-screen chat windows appears and the left hand navigation panel disappears.	Kill the app from the task bar or restart the iPad.
Rotation	In rare cases, the iPad application may get locked in portrait or landscape mode. Other iPad apps are not impacted.	Kill the app from the task bar or restart the iPad.
