Skype 2.8 Gold for Mac
Today we have released Skype 2.8 Gold for Mac.
This version brings to you two new features: Skype Access and screen sharing.
We would like to thank everyone who has taken their time to report issues on our public issue tracker or on the forums during the beta phase, or just commented on the blog posts about it. Of course, feel free to continue posting there.
In addition to the public beta testers we would like to give a huge bow in front of our volunteer translators community who have localized Skype 2.8 for Mac to their own languages. Last but definitely not least, it's time to hand over the thank you awards to our closed beta testers who have done splendid work on helping us to iron out bugs from all internal builds between public releases.
Full release notes for the release build 2.8.0.659 are available in the Developer Zone.

GIVE ME MY OLD SKYPE BACK!!!!!!! It worked beautifully. Best of them all. (msn, yahoo, etc.) 2.8.0.659 is a total screw up. Cam freezes continually. NOTHING has been changed in my computer other than updating to the new and horrible Skype 2.8. msn and yahoo still work as always. There is something wrong with this supposedly updated Skype. So typical to release new versions that don't work. Did Microsoft take you guys over??
A totally disgruntled ex-user.

I have similar problems my videos freezes constantly, with no exaggeration. Please help or release a more stable version. I have a MacBookPro 10.5.8 entire system up to date. I used skype 2.7 same problems upgraded to the beta same problems, I did notice before the video freeze my iCam light will blink and then the frozen screen follows.

Thanks for the v2.8 update...works great! Very handy for screen-sharing with my friends/family that are using older Tiger iChat (and Windows -- since Leopard has iChat screen-sharing built-in, also).
Quick suggestion: please retain the self-window mirror position in the next video session. Since all Macs have webcams at the top center, would be simpler to default the Skype mirror window to slightly off-center at the top every time.
(Currently Skype behavior it's at the bottom-left always...which means you're looking off into blank space to the other video chat participant.) Thanks much.

A couple of months ago I was having trouble making calls on my MAC 10.5.8. When I made a call there would be one ring then the screen went grey and a message 'Recording Error' appeared on the screen. I could still chat and check voicemail. I've tried all suggestions in the forums, FAQ's ,etc and nothing is resolving this issue. I have my latest Mac updates and installed 2.8 same problem. I've posted this issue for the past couple of months and have not had any reply. Please help! I'm paying for a subscription plan and no one is replying so I can use my skype.

A week or so ago, we too downloaded 2.8. Since then, we too have had problems with constant freezing of our video. The incoming freezes some, but our outgoing freezes constantly. Is there a fix in the works? What can we do? Can I go back to 2.7. Our computer is a Mac G4. We love using skype, but this has been a pain.

My outgoing video will blink in and out at times, but the incoming video freezes every other minute ever since I downloaded the new 2.8 version. Will there soon be a fix, or is there a way to go back to a previous version?

Hi there.
2 things:
· Imposible to set a picture in my profile details (curiously, same problem that in MSN Messenger), after try that, the application shuts down suddenly.
· Many problems on loging, having to restart the application each time I sign again.
And say too that the maaaany maaany problems with the last weeks spam has suddenly dissapear.
Thanks for attend.

Could you please tell us if you're working on the video freeze issue?
It is a really MAJOR problem, which seems to happen mostly on PPC hardware.
The forum is full of discussions like this: http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=379991&st=0

I've downloaded the last two "new" versions of Skype (2.8 and it's fix) and have had problems with Skype since. I am unable to see video with one user overseas. Another user here in town is unable to answer my calls on her end. I, too, would like the old version back at this point. I've tried to find it to re-install the 2.7 version but have had no luck. Wish I had never downloaded the new version.
I'm on an imac with OS 10.5.8.

I downloaded V2.8 and it worked well over a wired connection, but the video drops over a wireless connection. What are you doing to help fix this problem. I did not have this problem with the previous version of skype. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I upgraded to 2.8.0.722. Now I cannot see my friend who is using skype on a windows machine. It worked before the upgrade. Any suggestions?

EPIC FAIL!!!!
Updated to Snow Leopard yesterday.
A for effort....But NOT EVEN CLOSE to doing what it says it's going to do. I hope you've got notice of this and are working over the weekend. I've got some serious business meetings tomorrow.
I used to recommend Skype to people on a daily basis...what happened?
None of my cameras work.

Upgraded to 2.8.0.722. Not impressed at all. The camera won‘t even register now. How can I turn the clock back.

Hi Folks
I'm using Skype 2.8 on my G5 iMac running OS X 10.4 which has a built in camera and mike. Voice works just fine, but sadly the video doesn't at all. In fact, the video icon button on Skype is greyed out and doesn't 'engage' or allow itself to be activated at all. That's a real pity as the free video connection is a real attraction to me - my offshore (I'm in Australia) pals and I have been looking forward to being able to see each other when calling so it's all been a bit of a let-down. We'll be happy to deal with the problems of video freezing which other writers on this blog describe if we can only get the video to work at all in the first place (although you do all have my sympathy too)!
When accessing the (very limited) troubleshooting advice available on the Skype site relating to video not working (at https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA1267/Why-does-my-video-not-work?frompage=category ) it is all geared towards PC users and none really at all for Mac users. When I go, on the other hand, to the Mac support site it simply directs me to the Skype preferences ( Skype > preferences > video ) and advises ticking the "enable Skype video" box which is found there while also ensuring that the "Built-in iSight" option on the "Camera" drop-down is selected (on my Mac that is the only option anyway - there is no other!).
Can anyone please tell me what I need to be doing to be able to get the Skype video calling option on my Mac working? I will be eternally grateful if you can ..... Best wishes from Oz

This may help some...
My Skype on my Mac PPC would freeze mid conversation and the only way to shut it down was to restart the whole computer, I could not Force Quit. I am using a separate video and mic, it's one of the early monitors no built in camera. Anyway, to make a long story short, I plugged the USB camera directly into the computer and not a USB card and it worked. It might be that simple, a USB conflict.
