Significant increase in the number of people online

Skype structureIn the last hour, we’ve seen evidence of a significant increase in the number of people online. Because of the way the Skype software works, it’s not possible for anyone to obtain an exact figure, but we now estimate it to be over 10 million.

Please note that some features may not work as reliably as expected – peoples’ online status may be slow to update, and instant messages might not be delivered as quickly as they are normally. Group video calling will take longer to return to normal.

It's time for GTalk to bury Skype because it's frustrating not to be able to make calls as long as I have been with Skype. You guys should have anticipated that at some point - with the immense success you have had - capacity was going to be an issue. On the other hand, I have learned that I am too much dependent on one system and I need to spread my resources. This is the worst time for this to happen!

Hi,
Since yesterday (14h00 Adelaide Time), you've been saying that Skype is gradually coming back online, with 10+ million users online this morning (07h00 Adelaide). My Skype is still dead in the water - It seems to sign-in now, but all users are greyed-out and making a test call (not greyed-out) fails.
I hope you guys sort it out soon....Best of Luck.
Richard.

Outages may be unavoidable at times. Not posting a notice is not excusable. We wasted over a half hour in our office troubleshooting our internet connection, firewall, password, etc and finally concluded on our own that Skype must have a problem. A simple posting on at login would have saved millions of people a lot of headaches, and for this SKYPE is responsible.
