Skype mobile for Verizon Wireless available from Thursday
From Thursday 25th March, if you’re a Verizon customer with a smartphone and a data plan, you’ll be able to download Skype mobile.
It’ll help you stay in touch with friends, family and colleagues all over the world, by allowing you to:
- make and receive unlimited Skype-to-Skype voice calls to anyone else on Skype around the globe
- send and receive unlimited instant messages with other people on Skype
- call international phone numbers at our low rates
Initially, the app will work on BlackBerry Storm 9530, Storm2 9550, Curve 8330, Curve 8530, 8830 World Edition and Tour 9630 smartphones, as well as DROID by Motorola, DROID ERIS by HTC and the Motorola DEVOUR. We’ll add support for more phones and platforms later this year.
Skype mobile uses the Verizon Wireless voice network for the wireless connection of the Skype-to-Skype calls, giving you a reliable connection and top-notch call quality.
Skype-to-Skype calls will not be charged against your monthly minute allowance or data plan. To make calls to international landline or mobile numbers, you’ll need to buy Skype Credit.
To make sure you’re among the first to know when the app is ready for download, subscribe to this blog, follow @skypemobile on Twitter, or become a fan of Skype on Facebook. Or, if you’re already a Verizon Wireless customer, just text SKYPE to 2255 and we’ll text you back a link when it’s ready. Not long now ![]()

Who cares about Skype for Verizon? We need Skype over 3G for the iPhone.
Nobody wants a Verizon phone, they want the iPhone.
Skype is missing out on revenue they could be generating on the millions of iPhone users, many of whom would JUMP at the chance to use Skype over 3G which means a Skype credit bonanza.
Still waiting... can't blame AT&T or Apple on this one. Ball is in Skype's court and they are fumbling it.
nielsvanrenselaar commented Tuesday, Mar 23
Couldn't agree more with the reply above. The promise has been made long ago, but Skype for iPhone is still worthless without 3G support. As said, the ball is on Skype's court. Do something with it... else we have to move to other company's who have already implemented the 3G support... (which are a lot actually.)
urbanarson commented Tuesday, Mar 23
Where is the Skype 3G update for the iPhone. The guys at Fring had a 3G Skype Compatible update out there within 24 hours. I've been waiting for months with Skype.
vineeth_h commented Tuesday, Mar 23
You guys are just ignorant iPhone users.
The Motorola Droid has sold more units than the iphone and has broken iphone's records for reaching 1 million units sold in 74 days.
So clearly,Its more widely used than the iphone and so its users deserve Skype Mobile. Also it's running the Android, which is open source and hence much better than the narrow minded iPhone OS.
emerald.coast.hypnotherapy commented Tuesday, Mar 23
Very exciting, but some clarification is needed. What about those of us who have monthly unlimited calling subscriptions and online numbers? Will those services work through Verizon/Skype or will there be additional charges?
kevin_newton commented Tuesday, Mar 23
Skype for iphone is at http://www.skype.com/download/skype/iphone/ so how is it Skype's fault?
The iphone is garbage though. A Blackberry of Droid beats it hands down, and Skype is recognizing that.
vineeth_h commented Tuesday, Mar 23
lol no, iPhone's business model is so that people who have no brains just believe them and buy their phone.
They always start out with a really crappy model and then each year when they make a newer version of it they add tiny new features to it and market it by say, "THE NEW IPHONE -- NOW WITH COPY AND PASTE!! YAY!" , and clearly we have dumbasses who will buy it just cause apple said so.
afrocreep commented Tuesday, Mar 23
Wheres 3G for iPhone? Where is the Android app? What about the rest of the world that doesn't use Verizon in the USA only? What the hell happened to Skype?
sodaboy.skype commented Tuesday, Mar 23
Kind of worthless.
Needs to be available on ALL Blackberry and Android phones across ALL carriers.
I think the majority of people could care less that you managed to allow free Skype to Skype calling. That would pretty much require one of the people to be on Skype at their computer or using Skype on their phone (with the Verizon network) to be free. If they're already using Skype on their phone, you might as well just make a free Verizon to Verizon (mobile-to-mobile) cell call.
And calling internationally with your phone using your low rates? But still needing to use the Skype app on one network only? Please. I guess we'll just keep using Google Voice. It will dial to our phone, using just about the same rates as Skype (oh yeah, calls to Canada from the US are free), and don't have to have a data plan.
Good luck pawning this out to people.
Don't even know why you bothered to mention the free instant messaging to other Skype users. We can just install AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Google Talk, or any other more popular IM medium and talk to a great deal more users for free with our data plan.
firdouse_cool commented Tuesday, Mar 23

Wow, you really are ignorant. You didn't need to buy a new iPhone in order to get copy-and-paste because you could upgrade the iPhone OS for free. Copy-n-Paste works fine on old or new iPhones... Apple gets it, and unlike some of the phones by people like *coughVERIZONandAndroidcough* when a new version of the iPhone OS comes out you have instant access to it.
To the posters knocking the iPhone, you obviously don't own one. If you did you would know how the entire user experience is superior to any of the other phones out there. The Android is getting there, but what the hell is with Skype only making this available to Verizon phones? Thats a crock of crap.
Wow, unlimited Skype-to-Skype calling? Big deal. I only use Skype to call landlines. Nobody I call uses Skype. I'd have nobody to use those unlimited Skype-to-Skype minutes with. Why do you think I want Skype over 3G for the iPhone? So I can use my Skype Out calling plan instead of my AT&T calling plan to make normal phone calls.
Skype... you really don't get what users want. It's a shame, you have a killer product but you are letting Verizon ruin it. iPhone users are your demographic. Not Verizon users on blackberries who are typically old school business users that don't know WTF Skype even is. #fail
vrmithrax commented Tuesday, Mar 23
I think you are missing a demographic who actually WILL care about this deal, @carlhancock757... I have Skype at home rather than a land line, and now I can call my home number from my Verizon business phone anytime I want, without affecting my business account minutes or incurring any charges. I'm anything but an old school user, my Blackberry Tour is company mandated... And there are a LOT of people like me out there.
Skype does what it does well, and understands what people want, in general. Just because it's not what YOU think you want, doesn't mean they are a fail. They just can't please everyone, sorry you aren't in the group that will appreciate this development. There's plenty of us that are pleased.
Oh, and for the iPhone posters... Talk to Apple and AT&T about their restrictions and rules for apps before you start hopping all over Skype for not making what you want. Seriously, if AT&T was interested in partnering with Skype in the least, you'd be getting your shiny iPhone app too. Just look at what a fiasco Google Voice was for the iPhone. Pretty obvious they care more about their money than about your happiness, isn't it?
Peter Parkes commented Tuesday, Mar 23
@emerald.coast.hypnotherapy online numbers aren’t supported currently – subscriptions for countries outside of the US will work just fine. If you call within the US, you'll use your Verizon minutes as normal. Hope that helps
(corrected)
rajiv_gunja commented Tuesday, Mar 23
I think getting skype on Verizon Wireless was a very good move. I am not sure how long is this exclusive deal is for. This application though few years late, will bring people much closer.
Those who are complaining about Verizon network, should talk to their network to find when they will be able to get Skype on their network.
If they can not wait, then one of the skype alternatives will have to suffice. IM+ or something else.
coolcva commented Tuesday, Mar 23
I have unlimited world plan on Skype where I can make free calls to 40 countries, I make to a couple of countries though including mobiles for free. in that case, Will I be able to make free calls with that plan from Skype mobile from blackberry? Please answer......thank you!
tarheelbuc commented Tuesday, Mar 23
Maybe Skype wants to support smart phones with a decent network instead of toy phones with a shit network? Just maybe
Peter Parkes commented Wednesday, Mar 24
@coolcva yes, your subscription will work on the BlackBerry – you won’t be able to make calls to the US though.
tnhwyman commented Wednesday, Mar 24
Just a wonder here? If I were using a wifi hotspot with my bb/vzw and called a landline, I think I would be using my skype credit minutes, but would i also be using my vzw minutes as well?
matt_mccarron commented Wednesday, Mar 24
Question:
If I'm a Verizon customer with the Blackberry Tour and I have their Unlimited domestic minutes and their Unlimited International Data plan, and I'm roaming on a 3G network in Europe or Asia, can I use Skype Mobile for Skype-to-Skype calls at no additional charge, and make Skype calls to standard numbers (US and non-US) at standard Skype rates without incurring huge international roaming charges?
Thanks.
Peter Parkes commented Wednesday, Mar 24
@tnhwyman if the landline is in the US, you'll be using your VZW minutes - if it's outside the US, you'll be using your Skype Credit.
@matt_mccarron unfortunately Skype mobile only works within the US at the moment - sorry!
aabrams504 commented Wednesday, Mar 24
I am somewhat disappointed I guess. I was hoping that we would be able to use the global data plan to be able to make calls when outside the country. My solution to that now is to use my itouch with the skype app (worked brilliantly last week in Canada)...only problem is I had to be at a hotspot. The only place this really helps me is if someone using Skype (like my wife in France this week) wants to call me using Skype (assuming they can't make a cheap call to the US)I can accept her call while not having to be by my computer.
matt_mccarron commented Wednesday, Mar 24
@peterparkes That's unfortunate. My whole company had been interested in switching to Verizon for this very reason. It would have saved us a huge sum of money.
toddtownsend commented Wednesday, Mar 24
PeterParkes - since the Verizon solution carries voice calls over circuit switched, will it be using the SILK codec like the IPhone? That is one of the main advantages of Skype - wideband audio.
I fear that Verizon's assertion of voice quality over their standard network means "old school voice quality", not IP/wideband
Peter Parkes commented Wednesday, Mar 24
@toddtownsend correct – calls on the Verizon network won’t be wideband.

john.puskarz commented Wednesday, Mar 24
This is great news! I am NOT an "old school business users that don't know WTF Skype even is" as carlhancock states. I am a current Skype user and long-time Verizon customer who has great network access with his BlackBerry while listening to his friends on AT&T moan about their poor coverage. My wife's family lives overseas and this will give us a great alternative to stay in touch.
Peter Parkes commented Wednesday, Mar 24

jimboxp commented Thursday, Mar 25
I'm very very excited about this! I have a friend in Africa, Australia, UK, and other parts.
To those who have questions, the benefits only work if your in the US. Anyone who is on your Skype list is as good as anyone who has Verizon or in your friends and family as it will appear as m2m calling on your bill. International calling is cheap with Skype as well. If you have a subscription through Skype you'll have to actually use Skype to get those benefits. If you call a number from Skype that is not a Skype contact, that is considered Skypeout and goes against your anytime minutes. If you have a subscription on Skype, the call is included only over Skype on a computer or skype connected device.
kam.beard commented Thursday, Mar 25
ok Iphone lovers...you have an Skype iphone app...so why are you bashing Verizon? Skype is probably only teaming up with Verizon because the 3g coverage is greater than AT&T. Streaming Skype calls on 2g I would imagine is crappy! Iphone users that use the Skype app is your Iphone 2g or 3g? I'm sure its only going to Verizon because of the bigger 3g coverage. does AT&T have android phones?

I downloaded the long awaited Skype to Skype calls between Skype users promoted by both Verizon and Skype. I even changed out my old cell phone for the Droid so I could voice with my friends overseas Skype to Skype. The voice quality is unintelligible. Perhaps there is a setting my friends and I need to adjust on our phones, but I don't know what it is. I'm extremely disappointed in the misleading hype for Skype to Skype mobile calls that would benefit many who call overseas. If you want free overseas calling use the Rebtel Smart calls. You use your phone's plan minutes but when you make the smart call, the international time usage is free. I need mobile to mobile not mobile to landlines.

Excellent! Downloaded this last night and it's worked wonders for my relationship already. I have a Blackberry on Verizon and my boyfriend has an iPhone on AT&T, and thanks to AT&T's wonderful service, our calls constantly get dropped or distorted. It's actually been incredibly frustrating, so out of curiosity we tested him calling from Skype for iPhone (via WiFi at home) to my mobile Skype on the Blackberry and our call didn't drop once and it sounded fantastic. I don't know why people are so negative on here--this service will indeed be useful to some people and we are grateful it's finally available. (If it's not useful to you--do something useful with your time instead of complaining about it here!)

Skype: You are missing the boat.
I have been using Skype for years, and have "drunk the KoolAid" and purchased a phone number, advertising it on all my printed material.
Yet I am still tethered to my computer because you guys haven't released a GENERIC BBerry application that I can use on my Bold on ATT (or any other BBerry/carrier). I'm not changing carrier/phone just to add Skype. Dumb.
Please make a generic version available so I can quit fiddle-twiking with Skype/headsets and get on to business.
If you guys want to drive revenue, you had better start offering services that business people need, rather than focusing on "free calls to your mother in bumbletown."
This would include some basic PBX features (like call routing) and the ability to use phones which are not cheapo consumer junk. Like my BBerry or a SIP business phone.
You have a HUGE small business market that is untapped and waiting for a reasonably priced solution.
You guys have done the hard part (and well, I might add). Now get down to business.

For a company that has its DNA in aiming to make it easy and cheap for people to communicate with each other, linking up with a mobile provider seems pretty strange to me. Having been a Skype user since 2002, I am really starting to wonder what it is that we have to do to get a general release product for Blackberry. That's for those of us who aren't in the USA and wouldn't want Verizon anyway. Come on! Why would you think that BB users stuck on the device because of the corporate world wouldn't want Skype? When? When? When?

WHAT A TOTAL LET DOWN!!! LIMITATION WITH VERIZON AND SKYPE ALREADY FOR SKYPE BUSINESS OWNERS!
I just spent 2 hours on the phone with Verizon to find out that if you have your own phone number with Skype (not your Skype IP) FOR EXAMPLE 954.345.**** and someone call those Skype numbers it will not ring through to your blackberry device that has the new Skype application installed. ONLY people calling you from a Skype application using your Skype ID will work.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? This renders this application totally useless to business owners using Skype. I current pay Skype over $150 a year for 3 phone number for my business and I can not use them to receive call to my backberry Skype application.
WHAT A TOTAL LET DOWN!

OK, I've read all the above posts; have been using Skype for years; using Skype Mobile on BB Storm since it was released. Understand that calling out via Skype on mobile uses Verizon minutes for USA calls (not a big deal), and Skype minutes for international calls from the USA (Good!), would be great to have Skype Mobile available when traveling overseas, so keep working on that!
My issue is: If someone calls my Skype-In number WHILE I AM SIGNED IN ON SKYPE MOBILE, NOTHING HAPPENS: 1) No notice is given on Mobile that I am being called on Skype-In; AND, worse, 2) Voicemail on Skype on my Laptop NEVER PICKS UP when I am also signed-in on Skype Mobile.
Obviously, one workaround would be to use Skype Forwarding to send calls to my regular Mobile number, but I would like to either be able to answer a Skype-In call on my Skype Mobile, OR at least let the caller leave a Skype Voicemail. (Note that I DO receive notification on my Skype Mobile when I have a Skype Voicemail -- but if I am logged onto Skype Mobile, you can't leave me a voicemail, sort of a Catch-22!)
My present idea is to just leave Skype-Mobile logged off so I don't miss a Skype-In voicemail. Not a good solution, but I really don't want Skype-In calls all forwarded to my mobile.
Any better ideas, fixes or workarounds?

shendrix83 commented Thursday, Apr 15
Hmm... Yeah, I don't see what some of you guys are so irritated about. First of all, there IS an Android App, though I think it was launched after some of the whiny posts asking for it... I have a Motorola Droid, newly updated to OS ver. 2.1. My boyfriend just bought a HTC HD2 (on T-Mobile...I know...I'm trying to convert him...) While Skype says they don't officially support a mobile app for Windows Mobile (or any carrier OTHER than Verizon), a quick Google search yielded me a copy of Skype 3 for Windows Mobile. Within five minutes, I had it installed on his phone, which, by the way has NO coverage at my house (almost as bad as all you poor iCult members with your iPhones...) With his phone connected to my Wi-Fi and my phone having (wait for it...) actual 3G coverage, we are able to call eachother via Skype with absolutely no issues whatsoever--Android 2.1 to Windows 6.5, Verizon to T-Mobile.
So, I say good job, Skype. Keep rolling out the new products as you get them developed, and those who want to sit here and whine...well, sit here and whine...or better yet, go get a phone with Verizon. Maybe you wouldn't have as much free time to sit and whine if your phone had a signal.
danj3ris commented Thursday, Apr 15
Quick question people, when launching the Skype app for Verizon Motorola Droid, is the Droid still having you turn off your wi-fi connection? I'm asking as a non-droid user who toyed around with one two weeks ago and was really bothered by that notification that popped up on the screen when I tried to start the Skype App.
If that's still the case, it's a real bummer. Might as well use Skype for the PSP GO. Works great, as long as I have a wi-fi connection.
ekasbury commented Tuesday, Apr 27
Why no app for smartphones in general? Why carrier dependent with stipulations? Paying for voice minutes is an outmoded model. Sadly, as a Sprint customer I still don't have Skype for my phone, but from the sounds of it, it is so limited that it wouldn't do my any good anyhow. Unlike every other piece of Skype software, this sounds like crippleware.

I just downloaded this app for my Eris phone and upon opening it I received this error message: "Skype mobile can only be used on Verizon Wireless in the US." I live in Johnson City, TN, in the United States of America. My phone is on the Verizon network. Why isn't this working?!
Peter Parkes commented Friday, May 14
Sorry to hear you’re having problems – you should get in touch with Verizon Wireless support to resolve this.

How is is possible not to be available for 9700 YET?!?!This is the Flagship phone of BB!!!!!!
earth3003 commented Sunday, May 23
A Verizon tech support person told me that if I download this application on my BB Tour and then go to France (Paris), I will be able to use Skype Mobile from there using the Tour, but some of your comments here say this isn't the case. Who is right?
Peter Parkes commented Monday, May 24
@earth3003 we are, I’m afraid. Skype mobile for Verizon Wireless only works in the US at present.
fragholrok commented Friday, May 28
For ppl who paid for a skype number & subscription:
"If you call within the US, you'll use your Verizon minutes as normal."
:(
I paid for a skype number and a subscription that I now can't use on skype mobile with my verizon droid? that's pretty stupid. Why use skype at all? smh...
If anyone out there is reading this, and thinking about paying for a skye number or sub for mobile use - don't give them your money. scour the net for a google voice invite, you won't regret it.
skypestupid09 commented Saturday, May 29
I don't understand all the hype here -- skype mobile had always been out there for Windows Mobile users and I have been using it on my TP2 over Verizon's 3G network with no problem. The only drawback back then was that skype calls were routed through the speaker at the back of the phone, which could be solved by using a headset or installing an application that routes calls back to the earpiece.
What Verizon is doing right now is to make Skype more restrictive. Now WM users could no longer download the full-version of Skype which they could use to make domestic and international calls. The only choice they are left with is skype through Verizon, which they couldn't use to make domestic calls.
moebiusforever commented Sunday, Jun 6
I think one of the reasons why Skype calls are domestic only is to ensure call quality. First, it is less drain for your battery since it's not processing data packets. Second, your phone's processor has to be able to handle the encoding/decoding of the data packet. When you are roaming, you're at the mercy of the data connection. Imagine how frustrating it may be if the data connection is not as stable as home? The average user would then point the blame at whom? First would probably be Skype, even if they don't deserve the blame.
Windows Mobile users are being shut out from Skype for reasons not related to Verizon. Therefore you have to find and download the old copy and deal with the quirks of Skype on WinMo.

Anyone stuck in a 'upgrade' loop. v1.0.0.5 requires me to upgrade to v1.0.06, but my Blackberry Tour 9630 freezes about 15% into the upgrade. Blackberry Desktop Manager also fails to do the uninstall. Am I the only person with this problem?
Peter Parkes commented Monday, Jun 7
@davidkatzensteinskype you should contact Verizon Wireless support for help with this.

Ok first off why are only Verizon android phones getting Skype mobile while the rest of the android users are stuck with Skype Lite? Are non Verizon android users going to get Skype Mobile as well?
As for iPhone, I can see a lot of companies switching focus to android. After all there are currently more android users than iPhone users and we all know most companies go with biggest market which is why Windows gets more software than Mac and Linux.

I would really like Skype on my BB 9700. Any word on when this will happen?
ramijundi commented Thursday, Jul 8
I run Skype on a Droid Incredible.
I love it as my father located in China and I converse every other day for free on a phone that is easy to move about. I really dislike talking at my PC.
Maybe I am the minority but I appreciate the fact that only a slow 1x connection is required to run it(that is all that is available in my home). Using the cell network for voice works brilliantly.

Hi,
I'm moving to England for 1 yr. I was thinking of buying the Unlimited US Skype Plan (~$30per year unlimited calling to mobiles & landlines in the US). Can I use this subscription to call someone's US mobile or landline while I'm IN the United Kingdom? Also, does this subscription allow me to call someone in the US on Skype who has the Skype application on their Verizon Droid Incredible?
Thanks much!
Peter Parkes commented Wednesday, Jul 21
@yamuna.gnanadev unfortunately neither - the app works only in the US at the moment, and calls to US numbers are counted as part of your Verizon minutes allowance. One of our other mobile apps might be a better fit - we have a deal with 3 in the UK, for example.

iphonelost out when it signed up with the 2ND LARGEST CELL PHONE COMPANY in THE US.....Verizon Wireles IS THE best and most reliable cell phone provider out of AT&T & T-Mobile, I know this because I have also had AT&T & T-mobile in the past and will NEVER GO BACK to either one of them, so SKYPE signed up with the #1 and most reliable mobile phone provider in the USA, which is VERIZON WIRELESS, which DOES COVER more than 97% of all Americans who own mobile phones. It does not matter, if you have a phone like the iphone and it's with a cell phone provider, like AT&T that DOES NOT have the largest & most reliable netwok in the USA, then it makes since as to WHY SKYPE chose VERIZON WIRELESS over AT&T and the iphone....it's not ONLY the phone that counts, but also the SERVICE PROVIDER that provides SERVICE to that PHONE...in short....iphone...good phone....AT&T service....less that reliable.
I do agree with a few of these posts. I had an iphone, I now have both the ANDROID & Blackberry, both with SKYPE in them and I will NEVER go back to the iphone which is NOT ALL THAT, I much rather have my Blackberry & Droid rather than an iphone.
Everyone has to remember.....having a GREAT PHONE/MOBILE DEVICE means NOTHING unless that phone is activated with the BEST SERVICE PROVIDER'S NETWORK.
Sincerely,

This is pretty lame. I have Sprint and just upgraded from a Palm Pro to a Blackberry Bold 9650. The Skype App downloaded fine on my BB, but won't run because it isn't a VZW phone. I used to run Skype no problem with Sprint on my Palm (Windows Mobile 6.1) and I am intensely disappointed that I can't run it on my BB. As noted above, Skype is used by millions of people all over the world, most of which don't have VZW, nor is VZW available to them. I call foul Skype! Shame on you! Thank you for making the world a bit smaller!

Rick D. Michaels, the epitome of a willing, almost supplicant, corporate condom. What are Skype (and thus users) signing up for? Who's getting paid for the apartheid? Skype is an internet phone service, why won't it run on other providers mobile internet? Who the hell are these people? Why can I not choose to run skype on any service providers mobile internet? Why would skype ever have any bloody say in my mobile provider?
Peter Parkes commented Tuesday, Aug 3

As long as your Blackberry is on Verizon. Do you understand simple ideas? Obvious fiscal paraphillia. Is that what you hoped your comment would illustrate?

Skype mobile for Verizon Wireless available from Thursday! NOT! Call Verizon and ask.... this is FALSE unless you tell me how to do it when Verizon will still charge $1.29/ min on top of SKYPE!
voland66 commented Thursday, Aug 19
I want to check if Skype to Skype is really free. A couple of months ago I received a Skype call that originated on PC.
A couple of days later I noticed 60+ minutes deducted from my monthly allowance. I called Verizon and after the support person spent a while figuring out the situation, I was told that only calls initiated on the phone are free. They returned my 60 minutes at the time, but in general there is no way for me to know if the incoming Skype call was started on a PC or a phone. As a result I have not used Skype on the phone since. I would like to find out if the information I was given is correct or not.
Peter Parkes commented Thursday, Aug 19
@voland66 if the person calling you calls your phone number, those calls will count against your allowance. If they call your Skype name, they’ll be free. Hope that clears things up!

I love how Skype yanked apps that would work on my phone, with claims that they are releasing a new, upgraded product, with better quality, but then when they FINALLY do, it is exclusive to Verizon, a company that doesn't even exist in Canada.
Way to drop the ball Skype. I have waited for you for long enough, and now it appears you have sold out.
I will be looking for a new service. No more money from me.
timandlucyblanks commented Friday, Sep 3
I'm still at a loss to understand what we in Australia have done to not have Skype for Android? Releasing a Skype client for us wouldn't hurt the private deal $kype have done to muzzle their US customers. Seriously Skype, whatever you're earning from crippling your product is not worth it, the damage to your reputation (particularly on the Android market) is just propping up the competition.
Get it together guys, it can't be that difficult...

Skype,
I have a question. You offer a product that fills a void, and used to do a good job at it. It bridges a gap in communication. I have an internet connection, but no phone line. I have Skype, therefore I now have a phone. Problem solved right?? If I have Skype loaded on my mobile device but can only use it on the 3G connection and not wifi, then Skype suddenly loses it's utility.
Case: I was in the mountains on a ski trip. There was no cell service at all. My friend, on an iphone, was talking his head off becuase his skype was connected to the hotel's wifi. This is just one example of a suitable use for skype mobile over wifi. There are many more situations. I was excited when I recently purchased my doid that I could use the skype mobile app when I am in places that do not have cell service. I was let down to find out that, real reasons untold, I could not use this service over wi-fi as my friend had on an iphone.
Your earlier explanation of verizons coverage and battery usage was an insult to my intelligence. Yes, they are a big network...but do you live in a box next to a cell tower and never get out? There is a need for this and your response to this need is contradictory to the service you originally set out to offer.
In my opinion you have compromised your product and without this capability Skype mobile for droid is nothing more that a glorified yahoo messenger. At least be honest and explain why. It is technical? Legislative? Did verizon pay you off? You owe your customer base that or risk losing them. If I am alone is this then so be it. I'll move to the desert and sell blocks of ice made from acid. Just about as usefull.
Signed....former customer.

Hello!
I have a verizon BB Bold, new just bought. I downloaded skype and I can receive phone calls and I can use the chat. Sometimes but rarely I can make phone calls. Generally when I want to call it says please call and that it does not do anything. I called verizon they made checked and they did not find anything with the account, they also told me to go to the store and get the phone changed. I did it and initially it was working but the day after not any more.
Can you please help me! I really need skype to call!
Thank you so much
P.s My brother has a BB storm1 and he does not have any problem and we both are on the same plan.

Hi Skype,
I just got an Android Incredible, and I'm having a problem with my voice mail system.
If my Skype mobile is on - incoming calls to my Skype-in number do not go to to my Skype mobile, and they also don't go to voicemail. They just ring indefinitely.
AND - how do I log off of Skype mobile after using it? Do I have to power off my phone every time I use Skype mobile to shut it off so the incoming calls to my skype-in (business) number will go to voicemail?
Thanks,
sgramling

I am using Skype Mobile for Android on a Verizon Wireless Samsung Galaxy Tab. I can chat okay, but trying to do a PC-to-PC call -- it bombs out immediately. Note I am trying to do this over WiFi because I purchased my Galaxy Tab for WiFi usage only, not with a voice or 3G calling plan. So, what's the catch? Is that a feature that requires a voice or 3G plan from Verizon?

So, I have my own Skype number that I use A LOT - it's become so useful.
Now I need a new cell phone - which I hardly use, because I constantly use Skype
I want to use to be able to access skype with 'a' smartphone
I need to understand which phone it will work on this platform so I can make the right choice of phones. Friends in oz have iphone - which is great for the video phones, but they do get dropped with incoming calls or messages making it a pain.
I wasn't considering the verizon network...
Feedback and advice would be appreciated.
