Skype voicemail improvements
Skype voicemail means that you’ll never miss a call. Your unanswered calls are sent to voicemail and you can listen to messages when you want, wherever you sign in to Skype, or using Skype To Go. To make voicemail even better, we’ve added two new features: voicemail to text and voicemail alerts.
Voicemail to text
With voicemail to text, you’ll never miss an important voicemail – thanks to our partnership with the ultra-cool SpinVox. SpinVox will convert your voicemail to text, and we’ll send it directly to your mobile by SMS for you to read (SpinVox's blogger, James Whatley, is understandably quite excited about this
). The SpinVox gnomes currently understand voicemail messages left in English, French, German and Spanish, and, believe me, they’re pretty good.
Each voicemail to text conversion will cost €0.20/£0.17/$0.25 plus the cost of sending up to 3 SMS at standard low Skype rates, depending on the length of the voicemail message. The number of messages we send will depend upon the length of the voicemail message – if we can’t fit it all into 3 SMSes, you’ll see an ellipsis (…) at the end of the third message, and you’ll have to sign in to Skype or call your Skype To Go number to hear the full message.
Voicemail alerts
You can now set up email or SMS voicemail alerts to let you know when you have new voicemail messages. Email alerts are free, and SMS alerts are charged at Skype’s standard low SMS rates. You can also use Skype To Go to pick up your voicemail on the move.
To make life easier for you, we’ve also introduced privacy settings for voicemail alerts, so you can get alerts only from people on your contact list. In addition, you can set a daily limit for the number of alerts.
Both of these enhancements should make Skype voicemail even more useful – and don’t forget; if you have any comments or questions about these new features, leave a comment below and I’ll respond as quickly as I can.

Is there a reason we can't get the SpinVox delivered via email? I'd prefer it that way. Getting the message split up into multiple SMS messages is a pain.

My skpe viocemail simply Never picks up. It does not work. so it doesn't really matter how fancy you have made it latley.
tilo_sunroom commented Friday, Mar 6
the issue with the voicemail is at least 2-3 years old. The voicemail doesn't come on at all or xtremly delayed. the adjustment in option doesn't help and that is very annoying for a customer how pays for that service. Does the skype team is aware of this problem?
jared.cooper commented Monday, Mar 9
My voicemail is broken too. It's impossible for me to get a message so why would I want nothing sent as a SMS to my phone. Come on skype this voicemail problem is 2-3 years old.
mikesamazing commented Wednesday, Mar 11
My voicemail (and the person I regularly talk to) stopped working also after upgrading from v3 to v4. I use a Linksys CIT200 phone but it would seem this does not have a bearing on it.
jeff.neilson commented Wednesday, Mar 11
I thought this was a great service until I realized callers have to listen to an advertisement that the service is provided by spinvox and skype. If it were free I could tolerate this but having to pay to let them advertise the service to my callers is not acceptable. I turned it off.

Email Alerts / Voicemail on Skype To Go ?
I have tried this - and it does not work. I neither get an email alert, nor do I hear my voicemail messages when I call my Skype To Go number. Yes, these are new messages and they have been new for a while and still no notification. For someone who uses Skype for business this is not good!
I would love to just get a notification of new messages and then be able to listen to them via Skype To Go. The voicemail to text feature really does not do it for me and it is far too expensive
mike.wellborn commented Wednesday, Apr 8
I have been paying for Skype voicemail and it rarely works. I have asked for Skype support and get the boilerplate emails that never help. I own a business and when someone calls they need to be able to leave a message for us. If the phone rings and rings they will probably think that we don't exist. What business does not have voicemail? SKYPE FIX THE VOICEMAIL NOW OR I WILL CANCEL MY ACCOUNT.
Peter Parkes commented Wednesday, Apr 8

jonathan_nyc commented Saturday, Apr 11
I have to say I have the same experience as most of the posters. I travel a lot and been trying to use Skype. The Voice mail is a product that should not be charged for as it's not production-quality. It works only a small percentage of the time and then stops working without any explanation.
As other posters have mentioned the support is terrible. I've written several times about it and usually have to write more than once to even get a response -- and then it's always "do this and restart skype" which usually does help resolve the issue for a day or two.
When it breaks, it never picks up, and declining a call means the call is simply disconnected to dead air. It's a horrible user experience.
I also don't have any idea how to find the vmails I did get in Skype. Where in the UI do I go to view all of my past Vmails?

I cannot get Skype's voicemail-to-text feature to work. We have asked help from Skype support but they were not able to resolve it. Now we are not getting any more response from them.
Any of you guys able to get this feature working? maybe you could help me..
Peter Parkes commented Monday, Apr 27
@intelligentocean @gweb_org_communictations could you let me know what happens - is it a setup problem, or do voicemails fail to appear as text?

I also have paid for Skype voicemail and found that it does not work. I e-mailed Skype support about a week ago and have not received any reply, not even an initial courtesy reply to let me know that the matter is being dealt with. Charging for a service which does not work and not replying to customers' e-mails is quite clearly a con. I would not recommend Skype voicemail to anyone.
Peter Parkes commented Friday, May 1
@davidwatkins68 check your settings to make sure voicemail is switched on - if it is, please give me a shout and I'll do my best to investigate.

I got an email message saying I have a voicemail (nice service) and that I could just call my Skype-to-go number and retrieve it, but I have not been able to find instructions on how to do that. I assume I should input a PIN or something. My account is enabled to "Hear your voicemail using your Skype To Go number" -- just wish there were instructions for doing that. Even a hint would be nice.
Peter Parkes commented Friday, May 8
@mwe1951 if you haven't already set up a Skype To Go number, you should do that first ![]()
mwe1951 commented Saturday, May 9
Thanks Peter, but would you care to elaborate? I already have a Skype phone number, but I presume that is not a Skype-to-go number. I tried setting up my mobile as a Skype-to-go number, but there is no indication in my account now that I did this successfully.
All I want to know is how to retrieve Skype voicemail from a phone when I'm away from my computer. Is this not a frequently asked question?
I see no "Contact Us" link on the Skype website. Is there a tech-support email address to ask such questions?
Thanks again.

Me too. How do you access your voicemail from skype to go????
Email says I have one and that I can get it by calling my skype to go number, but doesn't say how.
Not helpful.
And now will I have to monitor this line of questions, somehow, in order to see if this question ever gets answered?....
Not helpful.

Sorry, I suck.
I just called my skype to go number and listened to a voicemail.
Just call it and if there is one it will prompt you.
Cool.
Peter Parkes commented Monday, May 11
@mwe1951 sorry if that wasn’t clear - you’re absolutely right, your Skype To Go number is different to your Skype online number.
Try heading to your account page on the Skype website and click on the Skype To Go tab – do you see a number listed there?

I enabled the following options for voicemail:
-send unanswered calls to voicemail (ON)
send calls to voicemail if...
-I do not answer within [7] seconds
-I reject an incoming call
-I am already in a call
I checked my account options, clicked on "voicemail"
- it says that my voice mail is "enabled"
the checkbox is on for
- send an email alert to (my emailaddress) when I receive a voicemail.
I tried making different contacts in United States to call my number. they all say it rings twenty times and it just says i am unavailable. giving them no option to leave a voice mail.

Fascinating reading. My Voicemail hasn't worked in a 12month despite emails to 'support', reboots, sign-out-ins etc etc.
Clearly there is a systemic problem here, Peter, not just a bunch of guys who don't know how to enable a feature in their software.
Frankly it's all well below par for a business user, or, well, for anyone.
There comes a stage when the hassle of issuing a new non-skype number to customers is less than failing to have voicemail: I'm close to that stage now.

I have a SkypeOut number used for my business. Voicemail is switched on and receiving messages but I can't retrieve them. The voicemail notification email says:
Sign in to Skype to listen to the message or call your Skype To Go number to hear it.
I'm signed into Skype now, and there's no voicemail or missed call in my history.
I've called my number as per the emailed instructions and all I can do is leave myself a message! So I left myself a message, but nothing comes up on Skype about a missed call or voicemail.
What is happening with Skype's voicemail? I'm using this for business and my customers are getting irate that I'm not receiving their messages! I know I have everything set up correctly because it has worked before, I just want to know how to get my voicemail now.

I've recently begun a new business and am dismayed after reading this message thread to see that this appears to be a systemic problem. Our biggest selling feature to our clients is promised availability and the option to speak with us over the phone - and our voicemail hasn't work since we've ordered it.
Yes, clicked the 'send unanswered calls to voicemail' button on the preferences tab, and still, the phone just rings and rings. No, it's not set up to forward to any other number.
The lack of readily available technical support is also disappointing; I spent an hour searching the site and FAQs for someone to call before stumbling upon this page, which seems ridiculous.
I would really appreciate help in working on this problem, as the success of our business depends on being available to our clients.

I am receiving skype voicemails to my pc but when I play them I get no sound at all as the message plays through. There are no problems with my sound card. Do I have to use a headset to listen to the voicemail messages or should they just play on the computers inbuilt speakers? I need to sort this out quickly before I launch a new business using Skype as my main communication system.
Peter Parkes commented Friday, Jul 10
@rhodanmc voicemail should respect Skype’s sound settings, so if you normally hear calls through your speakers, voicemail should play through your speakers too. Let me know if that isn’t the case.
sfolkson commented Thursday, Jul 16
I'd like to be able to recieve mp3 or wav files of the voice mails via E-mail. Is that possible, even as a pay service? I pay for the SkypeIn service, and the voice mail function works fine, but when I'm in Europe on my blackberry and a voice mail comes in, I don't want to pay Verizon $1.99 per minute to listen to the voice mail. Data transfer is free. I'd like to be able to log in someplace, or maybe reply back to the voice mail notification E-mail to authorize skype to send me the sound file for a small fee....thoughts?
Peter Parkes commented Friday, Jul 17
@sfolkson unfortunately our BlackBerry app isn’t available to the public yet, but our full-featured mobile apps (e.g. Skype for iPhone and Skype for Windows phones) can receive voicemails over a data connection.
I know that doesn’t solve your immediate problem, but it’s one we’re aware of ![]()

Skype is absolutely the worst service I have ever used of any type based on the sheer number of problems in comparison to the amount I have used it. I have had my service cut off for 30 days because they didn't like what country I used my credit card from. Now I simply want to listen to voicemails, and the only way seems to be to set up a "skype togo" number and call it, which I did, then it asks for my personal number, I have input all the numbers it could possibly be, but none work! I guess I will wait another month like last time for the problem to be resolved, eBay customer service at its best!

After several years of excellent service from skype, I find that my voicemail has suddenly stopped working. Worse, it seems to work, because a caller hears my greeting and leaves a message, I can see they have left a message and how long it is, but nothing is recorded. I call my skype to go number and again, there is a message but not sound. This has been going on for about 24 hours now and it is disastrous for my business.

Hi, Skype voicemail used to work great when Skype was an independent company, then around last winter it stopped taking messages as well as it formerly did, or forwarding calls to my mobile. And now for the last few months friends have been leaving messages even though I unchecked the "forward to voicemail button" but no sound comes out when I play them. What is happening?
I'm also on the point of starting up a business and thought of using Skype, but now I'm having to look for more workable solutions. And it seems like I'm not the only one...

I wish I had seen this thread before paying for Skype service, as it may have prompted me to find a different solution.
I received an e-mail alert 7 hours ago that I have a new voicemail message, but neither my Skype-to-go number nor the Skype app on my laptop show any messages. If there really is a message there, I need to hear it ASAP. I've submitted 2 support requests (is that the only way to get help?) and have received no reply. Hi. I've waded through these posts but still don't see the answer to my issue. The good news is that my skype vmail works - both on my MacBook and on my DUALphone (I have a Skype In number as well for business). I also get the email saying that I have a vmail. Yipee! But how do I get to hear the vmail without being at home or on the internet? Well, the email says use Skype to Go..... I logged my mobile number and set up a new London S2G number last night and added a US quick dial number for a mate over there but I couldn't see anywhere how to set it up to access my skype vmail????? I've called the S2G this morning and get only 2 options - one to call my mate and the other to call 'another international number'. I've tried hitting the #, 0 and * buttons but to no avail. Has anyone worked out how to do this? There don't appear to be any detailed instructions anywhere - and the fact that you are pointed towards it on the vmail notification email is just going to create bad feeling until there is.....
Thanks.

Hi. I set up my online number, voicemail and SMS alerts to let me know when someone leaves me a message. It all took more time then it should due to an inadequate Help section but now everything works as stated except for one thing. I can't hear the voicemail messages! If I call my S2G number, I get the option to listen and it does try to playback something but I can't hear anything. When I try to play it back in Skype, I get the same results. It plays back 11 seconds of nothing. I see from some of the earlier posts that others are having this problem too. Since I can't hear the message using my mobile phone or my PC, I know it's not my equipment. Inaudible voice messages are about as useful as getting a message written in invisible ink so any help I can get to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
matthoney commented Monday, Sep 28
Eureka! Further to my post above - I've just had an email telling me that I have a Skype vmail and rather than listening to it via my Mac I decided to call the S2G number, just in case I was missing anything. It worked! I was immediately given the option to press 3 and listen to my vmail message, which I then listened to loud and clear. Why oh why is the fact that you won't have a vmail option on your S2G menu unless you have vmail not explained clearly and succinctly anywhere? Perhaps it's obvious. Sorry.

I've been unable to record a voicemail greeting since subscribing to Skype 10 days ago, and I've been emailing back and forth with tech support ever since, following all their instructions, without result. The posts above suggest this is not an anomaly; I need reliable voicemail, and so I am hoping that there is some plan B for getting help from Skype experts. Otherwise, I will have to find another provider. ![]()

I think I broke the code. One of the voicemail FAQs says "As soon as you listen to a message it is transferred from our servers and stored locally on your machine until you delete it." This means that it is no longer available by calling your Skype-To-Go number. So, unlike a typical office voicemail system, the act of listening to a voicemail by one path (a PC) makes it unavailable through other paths (such as another PC, or Skype-to-Go.)
This is NOT intuitive. It deserves an FAQ.
The fact that option 3 is used to listen to voicemail via Skype-To-Go also deserves an FAQ. That same FAQ could document the fact that this option is only offered when there's a voicemail on the server that has not been listened to from a PC.

My problem apparently mirrors what other have experienced. I wanted to use voice mail for a home business. It initially did not connect, and I shut it off, re-entered the selection boxes, voila, it worked. Four days later, someone got me on my cell phone and said the voice mail was off. I tried the same disconnect/connect process. That worked for three test calls, then off again. I tried the disconnect/connect process about 6 times, but no luck. My son has been using Skype voice mail for two years without a hitch, so clearly there is a glitch that grabs some and not others. But, too chancy. I am back to using the cell phone.

When I first got Skype back around May, there was a nice little window with a list of voicemail messages, and I could just go down the list and play or delete them. Now, no matter how I search, I can't find this simple list of voicemails. There's some sort of list of "Events," but it's not the same thing -- it lists calls in, calls out, etc., of which a few have associated voicemails. But what has happened to the window where you can simply manage your voicemail messages, keep the ones you want, delete the ones you don't, etc.? How do we bring that up?
micromause commented Tuesday, Dec 22
Hello,
I was having the same problem! My voicemail would never pick up, this has been going on for like a month now. I have my settings enabled, because it worked just fine before. One day it just quit working for me.
I think I might have found a fix for this problem, I thought maybe because my history is saved forever that my mailbox might be full and thus not answering. So I cleared all my history and my cookies (just to be safe) and when I called my line I got my voicemail.
I'm not sure how you can delete a single voicemail via the IM history window, it would be nice though. I never use my Skype2Go to check my voice mails.

Skype Voicemail...the WORST VoIP VM Management system on the Web or PC...bar none!
Now that we have that fact established... and you still feel you need to use Skype instead of the better VoIP systems out there... try www.skylook.biz They have an application you are looking for...THAT WORKS! And of course they are "Skype Certified" so even Skype can't complain if you choose to use their VM application. Not that it would stop me or many others from doing so.
No, I don't work for them nor do I promote them elsewhere, I just want a VM management system that WORKS PROPERLY...period. One cannot afford the shoddy implementation of the current Skype VM system they make us pay for. Yes, you need Outlook for email to use the Skylook system to its fullest, but who does not have Outlook and serious about using Skype for business??
www.Skylook.biz has a free version which does the job for most people, and a deluxe version for those who need a bit more support. But you will be HAPPY to have something that Skype sorely lacks...a working VM system to use with Skype!
Try it out today! Thank you. ![]()

Voicemail used to work for me, about 12 - 18 months ago I upgraded Skype and am wondering if there is any link there. Now I still get email notifications BUT cannot listen to them as they not in the History (other itmes are there). Please help, I use this for business and 18 months without reliable voicemail is appalling. I have asked for help before but just got automated email responses NOT any personal help.
Many thanks.
vvaidy commented Tuesday, Jan 12
I'm having the opposite problem. You added voicemail as a free "feature" with my subscription, and now I can't get rid of it. I've spent hours with your online customer support chat, and they've apologized several times, but this is still not fixed. The latest email from them says:
"We are actually aware of this technical problem and are working hard on
fixing it as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, for the time being, you can only be sure that Voicemail
is detached from your account if you cancel this Online Number, as well."
My advice to anyone reading this: Do NOT subscribe to any skype subscription services unless you want this completely disastrous and UNREMOVABLE voice mail added."
On the other hand, the customer support people were as helpful as they could be under the circumstances.
vvaidy commented Tuesday, Jan 12
Just as a follow up to my previous post, the Skype customer service agent confirmed that there is a "technical glitch" and that you may or may not get voicemail when you get an online (SkypeIn) number. You cannot remove this voicemail and you cannot avoid skypein calls being sent to voicemail immediately if you are offline.
To quote the agent from my chat transcript (I've removed the agent name):
"XXXXX - Skype Support says
Unfortunately, I cannot tell whether that number will have a voicemail and please note that our technical department is working on fixing this issue.
12:16:23 "
In short, do NOT subscribe to any online numbers or any other online subscriptions unless you are willing to take the chance of getting this unreliable voicemail whether you like it or not. The problem is exacerbated if you are forwarding to your SkypeIn from a line where you have your own voicemail. Skype voicemail will pick up the call (if you are offline) and so it will look like your call was answered.
On the other hand, again, I must say that the agent was extremely polite and as helpful as she could be under the circumstances ![]()

Like ALL the others....VM used to work fine-- 2 years in fact. But now voicemail stopped picking up calls--sometime in Dec. Set to answer after 15 sec. but just rings forever. Will only pickup if I decline a call.
Fix this please.
bobstein-visibone commented Thursday, Jan 21
With Skype software open on my desktop, it rang for 8 minutes, while a pop-up with Answer and Decline buttons danced on my screen with sound effects. Caller ID wandered between the correct number and "Unknown phone number". Then after 8 minutes it hung up with:
"Lines are temporarily busy please dry again later Oh One Zero Six."
If I click the red Decline button it goes to voicemail immediately.
If I close Skype it answers in 2 rings, about 7 seconds.
Settings:
[ ] Forward calls (off)
[x] Send unanswered calls to voicemail
Send calls to voicemail if...
I do not answer within [15] seconds (this setting never has an effect)
[x] I reject an incoming call
[x] I am already in a call

I just signed up with Skype to test the bells n' whistles. I found out voicemail didn't work, searched for help, and came across this blog that confirmed my fears. This is horrible, but I'm not one to give up easily. Went to Tools/Extra/Get Extras in Skype to find a voicemail system for free. Tapur is no frills, but it works. I set ring time in seconds and customized my message. Keep your Skype voicemail on or it won't work. Voice recordings are stored in Tapur. There's an option to also have messages sent to your email, but that doesn't seem to be working for me. I was also able to pick up while ringing, one of the PBX extras didn't allow that. Also tested another option, turning voicemail off and allowing it to forward to a free voicemail number provided by k7.net. www.k7.net also provides free fax (bonus). I typed my new call forwarding number into Skype, cut off Skype voicemail at first, and the phone only rang twice on two test tries. Cut voicemail back on, and it rang about 5 times. With k7.net, voicemails go to my email and can be store at there site as well for 20 days. I'm not sure why. Skype and voicemail period are probably quirky. For now, I'm happy. I have enough time to pick up with Skype and get voicemail when I'm away. Sweet!

Hey Hey! I just wanted to say:
I started experiencing difficulties with skype voicemail just this week - TERRIBLE TIMING as I am finally starting to get some job hits from headhunters etc. and was using my skype VOICEMAIL to communicate with these VERY important people. SUFFICE to say that's all been f'd up this week but after reading this blog my wheels started turning and I think I might have come up with a solution... albeit I may not fully understand WHY it's a solution.
Anyhow. Here goes.
Q. What's the first thing you do when your computer stops doing what you want, when you want?
A. CLEAR THE CACHE.
.
. .
I went ahead and deleted my entire skype history (calls, chat, voicemail) on a hunch(after uninstalling and reinstalling skype, and contacting my third party virtual number company to blame them for the problem).
Not only is my voicemail immediately WORKING again, but it's functioning correctly too ( I mean all the features are there when they should be, picks up after the right number of seconds, or goes directly to voicemail if I'm unavailable, or if I decline a call). AND the quality is clear as a bell, where normally it's a cracky and gross.
So, what do you think about that? Fluke or relevant?
mitcwi commented Thursday, Feb 4
Skype voicemail does not work when you have the latest Windows version running and you are signed into it. If you sign out and enable voicemail on an independant skype phone it works flawlessly. If you run the MAC software simutaneously with a skype phone and same account it works. Something about the Windows software and signed in simutaneously with a skype phone that it doesnt like. That is my findings.

Please help! Lately many voicemails are not playing beyond 2 seconds (if they play at all). Sometimes, days later, I have been able to go back and listen to more (though usually not all) of such messages, but that is not always the case. I am paying for voicemail to come as soon as it arrives and getting very frustrated. Is there a trick for getting these messages to play? I thought maybe the local rain had something to do with it, maybe causing slow streaming, but today the weather was as clear as a bell (Come to think of it, I miss Ma Bell!) Any suggestions? Please help!
Thanks!

I just spent 24 dollars for 3 months on this skypein service, it worked fine for a week or so but now it just doesnt work at all. People keep calling me from other countries, well I keep calling myself on the number too, and all I always hear is two bells and then off to voicemail. I just cannot recieve calls on my mobile phone of computer for which I bought this service. If someone is out there who can help me, please do it quick, coz this coming week I am expecting some very important calls on my skypein number. I really do regret paying skype for this.

Looks like Skype really needs a Inbound Customer Service Department considering this is a year old Blog and people are still using it for tech support. Hey I know a great Company that will save you loads on your phone services. (That is as long as you dont need voicemail.)
.
VoiceMail never gave me any problem till the most recent update and then some of the settings got lost somehow. Now I've gone back in and setup Call-Forward and VoiceMail the way they were before but they don't play well together any more. They each work in isolation but when together I just get ring no answer.
hwsager commented Tuesday, Feb 23
To the many people who do get their older voicemails showing up in the history tab, but the newest voicemails are nowhere to be seen: This just happened to my wife a week ago, and I quickly realized why.
When the history tab has already been used in a Skype session, and shows the newest item (voicemail, incoming/outgoing Skype call, etc.) at the top, that vertical positioning becomes static. So if you go to another tab, and a new voicemail comes in, and you switch back to the history tab, you don't see the new voicemail because it's "above the top end". You have to scroll vertically to bring the newest items (like the newest voicemail) into view at the top of the list.
Real simple! But many people miss it because it is very unusual behaviour in GUI/Windows/Internet design.

I am having the same problems as many people here are experiencing. Voicemail was working now it doesn't work. Phone will ring and ring and ring and voicemail never picks up. I have checked all the settings, deleted my history, uninstalled and reinstalled and it still doesn't work. Customer service has been a joke as it takes 24 hours to respond to my email and all we do is email back and forth and they just suggest all the things I have already tried. Oh and they keep informing me how to use my voicemail buttons which is a joke since I am the only right now that can hear my voicemail. Yes, my voicemail is recorded and active, the problem is and continues to be that the phone rings and rings and rings and doesn't go to voicemail. Worked fine for 6 months now not at all. And I am not logged onto multiple devices. Skype is used only on one computer. If I hear that again from Skype I will scream - that is not the problem.
I would like to see some improvement to voicemail where I can determine how many rings before my voicemail picks up or just send all my calls straight to voicemail, etc. But I am seriously doubting I will stay once my one year subscription ends as I find the customer service is poor. Sending emails back and forth is just silly not to mention stupid. Maybe instead of spending all the money in advertising that they do, they might want to spend some in effectively dealing with their existing customers.

Opened a ticket and got a response that was useless - presumably just an automated email triggered from the 'voicemail' category. I have a subscription and a registered skype number. i pay for that and for voicemail. my voicemail has worked in the past but it no longer picks up. my options are set so that my voicemail is enabled and to forward calls to voicemail is unanswered. i am using a mac and it doesn't seem to give the option of how long until voicemail picks up. I have read previous comments and it seems like there is an issue with the voicemail service in the skype program. this needs to be fixed within the application and an update should be released. this should not be such an issue with so many people. i am traveling outside of the U.S. a lot and i rely upon my PAID service with skype to get voicemail from calls that i miss from the the States.
And the support service is rather... well... not much of a service or a support.
I would like things I pay for to function properly. If they don't, they should either be fixed free of charge or I should be refunded.

I corrected my Skype voicemail problems ON MY IMAC by deleting the latest version of Skype from my hard drive (you have to delete EVERYTHING) and installing an older version. There seems to be a bug in the latest version of the software. FOR MACS, you can download an older version at mac.oldapps.com/skype.php The September 17, 2009 version that I uploaded from the site corrected my voicemail. IMPORTANTLY, DO NOT ACCEPT THE LATEST SOFTWARE UPDATE or the voicemail problem happens again.

This software is simply useless. I too (like the countless others) run a home business. From the outside, Skype certainly seems like it would be the ideal home business solution...if it worked.
My problem is that Skype actually does what it says it will and forwards to my voicemail after 15 seconds of ringing or when the call is ignored. My greeting plays correctly and the caller records their message! Super!
My Skype client shows a new message and (after a 5-10 minute delay) I get an email message! So far so good, eh?
Well, yes, if I could actually get my messages. I've been screwing around, in effect calling myself for 4-5 hours trying to figure out where to get my voicemails. They're there, I know they are because the little voicemail icon displays. Once, in a seemingly teasing manner, the voicemail button showed up and played. Once. The rest seem to appear in the history just as regular calls (ie time stamp etc)
Skype Police Admin...I know what you're response is going to be. I WILL NOT submit a help ticket. It will do no good. You and your service are WORTHLESS.
I will be submitting an invoice to you for the 5 billable hours I lost today screwing with your software. Thanks for your business.
I suppose I'll have to resort to using the PHONEBOOTH on the corner

I am very concerned reading the above comments. I use an online number for business on a PC so that while I am travelling and in another time zone, messages can be left for me at any hour. As recently as March, this was working perfectly. However, now, when the online SkypeIn number rings, if it is not answered it cuts off on the computer, but keeps ringing forever for the caller with no voicemail message played to them. I have checked all the settings and even paid for voicemail just in case, despite it showing in my account as enabled already with the online number. No luck. Please, please, please can someone at Skype or anyone else help as this is affecting business.

This is crazy. Mine was working just fine until I decided to spend $60 for a full year and extend my subscription. Not voicemail doesn't work???
And when I call my on-line number from my land-line it rings at least a dozen times before Skype even "rings" on my Mac. I let it ring at least 30 times and voicemail does not pick up.
This better get fixed. And I have emailed Customer Support. I hope to hear from them, but am not holding my breath when it comes to this issue. I've had good luck with them on other issues (like simply trying to use a charge card to order--but was forced to use that MoneyMaker thing because their site is too inept to do regular charge cards).
I can't believe I spent $70 last night ($60 for an additional year and another $10 in credit). I should have known it would screw things up.

Send calls to voicemail if...

For those of you that are having problems with voice mail not answering... I have tested this and verified over and over on my verizon phone the fact that if you have a droid phone and use skype mobile your skype voicemail will not pick up if you miss a call or if you decline the call. looks like this whole voicemail stuff is broken - at least for me:
first I tried and activated call forwarding to my mobile phone (this works). In addition I enabled voice mail, so if I don't answer my mobile phone the call will wind up on my skype mail box. Problem: mobile phone keeps ringing indefinitely.
Then I disabled call forwarding so callers would go to my skype voice mail directly. Calls are recorded, but neither sms nor E-Mail notification work.
The combination of those 2 bugs (if they are bugs and I'm not too stupid to handle it) makes the whole affair rather worthless for me an I have to find something else - or could someone pls help me?

Regarding the voicemail issue.
I struggled with the same baffling behavior in that sometimes the voicemail worked without issue and sometimes it simply did not pick up and calls went unanswered. Responses from support were pre-written instructions on how to set up voicemail.
What I finally realized, after much aggravation, is that you can only have one Skype device on at a time or the voicemail settings are ignored.
I have Skype on my PC, my cell phone and on a Skype phone that connects directly to the router.
If I am signed in on any ONE of those devices, all is well with the voicemail.
The moment I sign in to two devices, I have no voicemail.
I emailed them to let them know what I discovered, but did not hear back.
Hope this helps some of you.

This is truly "do it yourself" service. I have not been able to get voice mail to work on my Skype number as well. I have set up voicemail in Skype. I have made sure I have the latest version of Skype installed. When I call my Skype number from a land line or cell phone, I get the message, "I'm sorry, but the the person who you are calling has a voicemail that has not been set up yet". It comes up in an "AT&T style" female voice notification. This is some sort of voice mail provisioning issue. There are no Skype technicians available to troubleshoot these issues. I am expected as the user to have the expertise to identify, troubleshoot and resolve this issue myself. That is unrealistic. All I can do is post the information on this blog. Do humans from Skype monitor this blog? If so, help! I also posted this information in a help window when the standard remedy for this problem (ensure you are running the most current version of Skype) was completed, with no result.

1) It never picks up. The phone just rings forever.
2) I can't find where to record a personalized greeting (Mac version).
3) I have no idea how to check voicemail messages (if I had any). The "advice" to set up a "to go number" doesn't make any sense to me. What number do I enter there?
Thanks,

OK, I figured out a couple of things:
1) It picks up after 22 rings! Is there any way I can reduce that number to say, 6? Nobody is going to stay on the line for 22 rings to leave a voicemail
2) I figured out the personalized greeting.
3) Now that I left myself a voicemail, I see that I can listen to them on the computer, but I still don't understand the go to number issue.

(skype to skype voicemail works, though). Perhaps there should be a class action lawsuit filed against Skype for selling fraudulent services! I just want the damned thing to work. How do they get away with this? Most businesses here in the US could not get away with this. Anyway--I have just about had it and don't want to waste anymore time.
I think I'll just use google voice and get a new number with voicemail that actually works and cancel skype if they don't get this fixed in the next couple of days. (new business cards again!)

Peter--the top of this voicemail comments page says: "Skype voicemail means that you’ll never miss a call. Your unanswered calls are sent to voicemail and you can listen to messages when you want, wherever you sign in to Skype, or using Skype To Go."
This is a completely false statement, as you well know, based on all the comments you see posted here. How do you defend this? skype has real problems with this and it has obviously not been addressed. Why should it take 12 months to solve a systemic voicemail problem? I have had this problem for months, too. There is virtually no tech support. The weak attempt at skype to send out their slow emails over and over again with the same unhelpful suggestions just does not cut it. What can you do as the "head honco of this forum do to shake these people up at skype to get this fixed?
I'm switching over to google Voice this weekend for my new number and a working voicemail!

The voice-mail on my Skype account has not been working and my customers are getting extremely frustrated. I have checked to be sure that the send unanswered calls to Skype voice-mail is checked on, however it just rings and rings and rings. Please help!

I have wasted 2 days working with tech support on the VM issue and still no resolution to the problem of my voicemail not kicking in. Yes I have checked all my setting, it's enabled, I went into the config file, I un-installed/re-installed according to email received )registry etc. Could you please explain how this is a problem on my computer when this is an online service? I accessed my VM for over a year from various Internet Cafe's in the Amazon region of Brazil before it stopped working. Isn't it a problem on Skype's end? Please explain. Thank you!

Fix your voicemail - you can't control number or rings and it never picks up. How can you have a phone service where voicemail doesn't work? I finally started using skype as my phone but this isn't going to work. If I'm on the computer it rings and rings. If you decline call it doesn't go to voicemail it just hangs up.

I"m a new subscriber and your voice mail does not work. It just rings and rings and voice mail never picks up. I've tried everything, including forums and Skype support. Nothing works! And it seems like Skype does not have a live support number. I couldn't even locate live chat. VERY FRUSTRATING!

I am a brand new Skype user...and the learning curve is pretty ridiculous given how simple the software appears visually. I have tried to get various answers from Google, unofficial Skype blogs...and by coming to these blogs. The main issue that seems to run through all these threads is CUSTOMER SERVICE...it's practically non-existent from Skype. I don't understand this...especially when we are paying customers for the service. When I see that there are 24 million users online in Skype...I multiply that by the monthly fee of 3.00 US...and go wow...what a business venture this truly is...even if only half of these people are actually paying for the service...that would still be 60 million dollars per month...not including all the extras that people subscribe to. So, with this in mind...we know that Skype is making plenty of money...enough money to pay for a reasonable customer care center, a technical issue department, with 24 hour service 7 days a week. So what gives? Why are these blogs our main source for getting information...mostly useless blogs that serve no true purpose other than to allow unhappy customers to vent themselves off into cyberspace. Does anyone else here wonder the same thing? Skype...if you want to continue enjoying the success you have had thus far...you better get to working on a more reliable software (because people are paying for it), and a better customer service experience (we are paying for that too)! I know for myself...it freaks me out to read all the complaints in here...or to read the ones on that other skype blog with the "!" in a red triangle (unanswered) because nobody knows the answer...but, to all those who are sick of reading "let me investigate this for you...I'll skype you back!" maybe there is a bright side to all of this...it's called the good old fashioned telephone with caller id and message service...they always work!

My voicemail does not work no matter what I do with the settings. I'm using a Skype wifi phone associated with my account, but that shouldn't cause the problem. I've tried calling my number from cell phones, office phones, residence phones, other Skype accounts, but my Skype voicemail will not pick up. I'm really disappointed because I have a Skypein number and was getting ready to purchase a year subscription. But if the voicemail doesn't work, then it's not worth it. Nowadays, voicemail is critical. I cannot figure out how to get my problem to Skype support (do they exist?) so I'm posting on this forum to see if someone can respond and help. No matter what settings I use on my voicemail, it will not pick up...how very frustrating when something is supposed to work but it doesn't.....
