+99 product for voice services maintenance

As part of our growth strategy we are looking at products that we have already launched since before and want to realize the full potential of them.

One of the products we are looking into right now is the +99 product for voice services. This product used to be used mostly as a test platform and also for free services. However we realize it can be used in many different ways and we are looking into expanding its reach by using it for paid for services as well.

As part of this expansion, we will need to update a database. This update should go smoothly but as the case is in most technical projects, things could also jam. Therefore we want to ask all partners that are currently running services/projects with us using the +99 range to make a list of their number ranges and get back to us so we can update our information accordingly and also make sure their services do not get interrupted during our database update.

We would also like to have a contact person to monitor the numbers at the partners end and report to us as soon as any disruption is detected.

Mashup kick off!

extras.png

I remember, when I was an IT student, I was waiting so much for the summer holiday emoticon-0157-sun.gif that now I could miss this feeling sometimes. I'm sure you remember: spending night after night working on coding and development to make sure projects were submitted on time; by the end of June we all end up looking like emoticon-0141-whew.gif

However, I recall now that only a month later I was already looking for something fun to develop with friends and I would have loved to play around with all these APIs (Skype, eBay, PayPal, Twitter, facebook, GoogleMaps, MySpace).

As we had our first Skype Night in London two months ago (Meet and Greet) , we heard that developers would like to see some mashups competition sponsored by Skype, eBay, PayPal and some other quite famous companies too emoticon-0122-itwasntme.gif. So your wish is our command - we present the Skype mashup competition!

To make it short, the one core part we need to see is a Skype element but I invite you to read more about the competition in our Mashup wiki page. The competition will run from the 1st of July to the 31st of August. The Sep 13th, the jury will welcome all developers to join us for the Skype Night at our Prague office.

For the moment, I would encourage you to join our Public chat, to collaborate by sharing what you know about any API you like and then it will be time to develop during the next two months what you would like to see. Also at the end of the period, I'm happy to share with you that we've just opened a new Mashup, Web & Remote channel in our Extra Gallery, where we would like you to submit all your Skype mashup until end of August.

Remember, Skype API is:

Free to use (as in emoticon-0167-beer.gif
) with commercial and non-commercial applications.

We, Skype, are all looking forward supporting your concept and of course meeting you in September. Just enjoy your vacations emoticon-0103-cool.gif
and come back to say Hi!

Calling all developers: Mashup with Skype!!

headshot_mashup.jpg

Starting today, Skype invites you to build and demonstrate innovative, exciting, useful and even down-right weird Mashups.

With over 450 API programs in existance today listed in programmableweb website, there are countless combinations. And of course all the news Mashups will be listed there too.

The one core part we need to see a Skype element. The competition will run until August 31st, and on the Sep 13th we will welcome all developers to join us for two days in Prague (Skype developers days).

At the moment and until the 1st of July (new blog post coming), we invite you to join our Public chat about Skype Mashup.

ebaydevcon 2007: done

eBay Developers Conference 2007 is history. Compared to the last year's event in Vegas, I noticed a few differences in Boston.

First (as this is a Skype developer blog), Skype was no longer the "most beautiful girl on the dancefloor", but an equal member of the eBay family just as PayPal and marketplaces. While in Vegas we held the lab sessions and manned a booth, this year we just gave our presentations -- and, of course, talked and listened to a lot of people. By the way, all the slide decks are available for download and may be used under the terms of Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 license.

Second, although the number of attendees was probably a bit smaller than last year, the presentations and the audience seemed to be a bit more focused. And if I have to choose between quantity and quality, then... well, you know I run our software certification program, so this choice really is a no-brainer.

Finally (although this is probably not too significant in terms of world revolution), I just happen to like Boston much more than Vegas.

Sh...! Skype is silent for our developers now

As Jaanus announced the latest Public Beta released for 2.6, we are glad to tell you that this includes a great new API command:

SET SILENT_MODE {ON |OFF}

This simple command offers powerful opportunities to develop games and other applications to use Skype without interruptions from the client by hiding and showing the Skype UI

We have also published at the end of September, the Skype Developer newsletter: first ever edition

Legos, Kid Lucky and the Skype screensaver at the eBay Developers Conference

Skype is wrapping up at the eBay Developers Conference. This was our first big developer event. We still got some unconference sessions to go on Monday, but the bulk of the work is done.

We haven't blogged that much about it, since we've been really packed at days with meetings, booth work, sessions, networking and anything else that goes on at such events. The developer community interest in Skype has been really great and it's been a great venue for us to talk with Skype developers as well as folks from eBay, Paypal, Skype and the larger eBay developer community. Thanks to everyone who took their time to work with us to provide their feedback, comments, questions, play in the labs with Skype API.

We'll follow this up with our own summaries soon. Meanwhile, check out the [Devcon website](http://www.ebaydevcon.com/), [blog](http://www.ebaydevcon.com/blog/) and [the Chatter](http://www.ebaychatter.com/) for other views. You can find all the materials and presentations on the event site.

Some fun bits...

* sorry to all those who wanted a Skype developer zone t-shirt after we ran out of those. They were quite popular, but since somehow a large part of them was shipped to Kentucky (?!?!??!?? don't ask), we'll receive them after the conference is over :-)
* there was a Lego competition during one of the lunches where you had to build... anything. Skype was also featured in some of the productions. Thanks guys. Our favourite one is below.
* Lenn kicked off his part of the keynote with the [Kid Lucky](http://www.skype.com/share/stories/music-to-my-mouth/) video. It was fun playing it to the nearly 800 folks present. Hopefully this illustrated what Skype is first and foremost all about -- people talking to other people, and everything else comes after that.
