Hundreds of millions of people around the world use Skype at home and work, so they never miss a moment and can get things done without worrying about cost, distance or time.
At Skype, we help you keep your world turning. We know that many of you keep in touch with instant messaging, voice and video calls (group video calling coming to mobile soon!), photo sharing and video messaging to make the most of every moment, whether you’re sitting in front of a computer or on the move on your mobile. Today we’re excited to announce that we’ve made it simple to collaborate and get things done on the go, with native support for Office documents on Skype for iPhone and iPad.
Following on from the integration of free voice and video calling in Office Online (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote Online) and Outlook.com, which allows you to see and speak to your Skype contacts whilst they’re in Office apps, the roll-out of our Office Online integration has made it easier for you to co-author and collaborate. Now, you can have a conversation using Skype messaging voice, or video right from within a document. Skype communication tools built right into Office help you get more done, faster. It’s a powerful combination!
Today’s iPhone and iPad news deepens the Office and Skype collaboration as it makes it easy to receive, review and respond to travel itinerary or plans and team presentations whilst you’re on the move.
If you receive an Office document in Skype, just tap the file to download it, ready for you to open in free Word, Excel or PowerPoint for iPhone or iPad – one click, simple! Best of all, because it’s all happening in Skype, you can respond by IM or by tapping the call button to start a one-to-one or group voice or video call instantly, so you can keep projects and plans moving, wherever you are.
Keep and share your favorite video message moments
Today we’re also pleased to make it easier for you to share Skype video messages. You can now save beautiful birthday sing-songs, messages from grandchildren, first words, first steps and other unmissable moments beyond your Skype network. To save and share a Skype video message you love, just tap and hold the message, save to Photos, then share with friends and family.
If you haven’t already downloaded the latest version of Skype for iPhone and iPad, you can get the update from the iTunes App Store. To get the latest news and tips, find us on Facebook and Twitter, and join us on the Skype Community. We look forward to hearing from you!
