Skype Translator Preview Is Coming to the Skype for Windows Desktop App

To bring Skype Translator into more people’s lives, today we are happy to announce that the Skype Translator preview technology will be coming to the Skype for Windows desktop app. We are targeting the end of summer 2015 for the roll-out to begin.

Last month we made it easier to obtain the Skype Translator preview by removing the sign-up requirement. Since then, we have seen a 300% increase in Skype Translator usage! We are thrilled with the positive response from around the world, and especially thankful to ALL of the early adopters who downloaded the application, and use it every day! Remember: Skype Translator uses machine learning, so the more people use the technology, the better the experience for everyone!

As of today, the Skype Translator preview application includes four spoken languages: English, Spanish, Italian and Mandarin, as well as 50 written instant messaging languages. We will continue to expand the repertoire of languages as they meet our quality standard.

Please take part in breaking down the language barrier by using this innovative new technology. To help, we thought it would be useful to remind everyone of some great calling tips such as: how to set-up a translated call, or how to ensure you optimize your experience – for example wearing a headset will significantly improve the Skype Translator calling experience. Keep this video handy to remember these useful tips and tricks!

Again, a big thank you to everyone using the Skype Translator preview application, and please stay tuned to this blog for further updates and announcements.
