Giving Your Computer A Break with Skype for Windows Desktop 6.13

Today we have released version 6.13 of Skype for Windows desktop. Some of you have reported that your computer processor usage is high when Skype for Windows desktop is running with Chrome as your default browser. We’d like to let you know that we have identified and fixed the issues with this update.

We’ve also addressed a few other bugs including enhanced stability during both group video call and in High DPI mode.

  1. overall CPU usage has been reduced with 6.13.0.104. However, I am noticing a new problem. When switching the the skype application, the app appears to lock up for about 5 seconds before becoming usable. This happens with consistency.

      Hi Tonmoy, I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble. The first thing I suggest trying is downloading the latest version of Skype for Windows desktop; if that doesn’t solve the problem, you can get in touch with Customer Support. Best, Shana from Skype.

    As of 6.16(.0.105, currently), the high CPU usage seems to have returned – Skype consistently uses the entirety of one core on my i5-4670K (25 %), and every time I receive a message it jumps up to 100 %, locking up my computer anywhere from 5 seconds to 20 minutes. Needless to say, I can’t use Skype when it behaves like that.

    I use Chrome as default browser and have Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Neither reinstalling the current version nor downgrading to 6.13 helped.

    Interestingly enough, I don’t have the problem on my laptop. It, too, has Chrome as default browser, but a 2-core Celeron 1.90GHz processor instead of the 4-core i5-4670K 3.40GHz on my desktop. I’m currently using the laptop for Skype, but it is an imperfect solution at best.

    A fix would be greatly appreciated.
