The One Guide for Skype on Xbox One
Now I know I can’t possibly claim to answer every question you might have about Skype on Xbox One in just one post. But my goal today is to give you the basics to get you going with this exciting new way to enjoy Skype. I’ll also give you some info on where to go to answer any questions you may be left with when I’m done.
Just like I did in my recent post on Skype for Windows 8.1, I’ll be focusing on four key actions:
- How to sign into Skype
- How to add a contact
- How to send an instant message
- How to make a call
Let’s get to it!
How to sign into Skype on Xbox One
If you’ve already linked the Microsoft Account you use to sign into your Xbox One with your Skype account, then signing in is as easy as starting up Skype and confirming your account.
If you haven’t already done so, then here’s a guide to linking your Skype and Microsoft accounts on Xbox One.
If you don’t have a Skype account yet then here’s a guide to signing up for Skype on Xbox One.
If you have a Skype account but you’ve already linked it with a different Microsoft Account, you can unlink them by signing in to your account. Then you can use the guide above to link the account you use on your Xbox One with your Skype account.
How to add a contact in Skype on Xbox One
Adding contacts is super simple once you know how. All you need to do is start Skype on your Xbox, press the Menu button on your controller and select Add contact. If you know your friend already uses Skype, choose Skype contact from the menu that appears.
You can use the same method to save a phone number to your contact list if you dial it regularly. Simply select Phone number from the Add contact menu and fill in the details. If you signed up for the group video calling offer when you got your Xbox One, this is a great way to use your 100 minutes monthly minutes of calling.
How to send an instant message in Skype on Xbox One
From the Skype Home screen simply select a contact or group from your Recent, Favorite or People lists and you’ll be taken straight to the chat screen. From there you can wax lyrical about your latest overwhelming game victory or your new favorite show.
Tip: You can use Smartglass on a mobile device as your keyboard for entering longer messages
How to make a call in Skype on Xbox One
Making a call is really no harder than sending an instant message. Once you’ve selected the contact you want to call from your Recent, Favorite or People lists you’ll have the option to start a video or voice call on the left of the chat screen.
Tip: You can also start a call with Favorite contact using the voice command “Xbox, call [person]”
Also, make sure to check out my last post for tips on how to start a group call to get the most out of your group video calling subscription.
