Video Calls Help Remote Stylist Be at Home with Clients
In the business world, seeing a space on a video call can be just as important as seeing a face.
Entrepreneur Kelly Fallis knows this firsthand – after helping to prepare more than 750 homes to get them sale-ready with her previous home staging company, she recognized a need for a better way for people to find and receive the exact furniture and decor they have in mind. She started Remote Stylist, a hassle-free furniture ecommerce site with products from over 350 brands, affordable shipping and free stylists to quickly help customers find what they are looking for, over Skype.
Kelly relies on Skype calls to grasp a client’s needs more acutely. One of the biggest challenges in her business is to fully understand the details of the room a client is trying to furnish. Seeing clients’ space firsthand via Skype helps make the process crystal clear, as if she were right in the room, she says. “We prefer to do live video chats of clients’ spaces, rather than sending pictures,” she explains. “Let’s face it, sometimes a photo just doesn’t do a room justice. We get all sorts of shots that aren’t helpful, due to room sizes and shapes.”
Chatting with video in real-time with clients literally removes the guesswork, especially with tablets. “Clients walk around their room, panning over their space on Skype video, and I constantly hear our stylists saying ‘hold on, go back’ as they see a room feature that piques their interest.”
Kelly recognizes that for many clients, life and business changes happen in a hurry, so her team is focused on helping them through the furnishing process quickly. Though some sales can take anywhere from two weeks to six months from start to finish, with the help of Skype chat, her fastest sale to date has been a record 10 minutes.
Kelly also uses Skype to ensure her operations run smoothly from morning until the wee hours of the night.
“Skype is my life from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 a.m.,” she says. “I have a standing date with our team in India at 12:30 a.m. five nights a week. A 20 minute Skype call makes my life so much easier than sending emails back and forth at all hours of the day,” says Kelly. “We use our two favorite tools while on calls – screen and file sharing – to help us ensure we’re all on the same page, regardless of the miles that separate us.”
“There is no way I could even function without Skype,” she says. “It is the sole reason I’m able to get where I need to go faster!”
