X Marks the Spot – Help Others Find You on Skype
You might have spotted a recent post from me in which I took on ten of the most frequently asked questions about Skype. The first question I looked at in that list is one which comes up a lot, “How do I find friends and add them as contacts?”
The thing is, though, there are two sides to this question and answer. The other side is “How can I get more contacts by helping my friends find me?” The way to do that is completing your profile information, of course.
Not convinced? Let me show you what I mean. Say I go looking for Kim Nilsson. If Kim doesn’t have any information in her profile, finding her is going to be like looking for a needle in a haystack. Compare these two images:
You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see the second one is more useful to me in my search. But having more information in her profile will also make it easier for her to add contacts herself. Don’t forget, Kim’s profile information is all her friends have to go on when deciding whether or not to accept her request. Having more information in your profile lets your friends know who you are when you send contact requests.
By now I’m sure you want to know how to do all this. Well, help is always at hand from Skype Support, where you can find this handy guide to updating your profile information. Setting your name and location should give your friends a good idea that it’s you.
Adding a profile picture is also a great way to help your friends see it’s you. We have guides on how to change your profile picture for Windows desktop, Mac, Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, Android on Skype Support.
