Skype Makes Registration Faster, Easier and More Secure with Microsoft Accounts for New Users
Over the past two years, we’ve made many improvements that have brought Skype and Microsoft closer together. And today, we’re excited to announce another – the beginning of a new sign up process for people using Skype for the first time. This change will simplify registration, increase personal data security and make it even easier to connect with the people who matter most.
Starting today, some new Skype users will use a Microsoft account to register for Skype – either with an existing Microsoft account or by creating a new one. A Microsoft account is an email address and password registered with Microsoft – if you use services like Outlook.com, Xbox, or SkyDrive, you’re one of the more than 700 million people worldwide who already have one.
With an existing Microsoft account, registering for Skype is even easier. Simply use your credentials to sign in and you’re ready to go. Don’t have a Microsoft account? No problem! Just fill out the registration form, and we’ll do the rest.
In addition to making it easier to connect with family and friends, Microsoft account registration will provide more protection and enhanced password recovery with features like optional two step verification.

This will be a gradual process, and throughout the rollout we will be listening and incorporating feedback from new users experiencing the Microsoft account registration with Skype for the first time. So let us know what you think!
