Skype Joins the Windows 8.1 Start Screen Line-Up

Skype will be front-and-center in Windows 8.1 – from the very first time you turn on your PC! We’re thrilled to announce that Skype will join the powerful offering of apps and services built-into Windows 8.1.

This is fantastic news for both Skype and Windows users. Now you don’t have to download your favorite app to stay in touch whenever you’re apart. With Windows 8.1, simply tap the Skype Live Tile, log in, and you’re ready to go. This not only means will you be able to reach over 300 million Skype users across every computer, tablet, or phone you use but, also, everyone with a device running Windows 8.1. By simply searching and adding contacts to your People list in Skype – the people you care about most are right at your fingertips.

Communicating, connecting and sharing should be a core part of every Windows experience, and Skype for Windows 8.1 is a natural extension of that. At Skype, we believe connecting isn’t just about talking – it’s about sharing everyday moments and getting things done, no matter where you are.

As the built-in communications service in Windows 8.1, we will continue to deliver the best experience possible by providing regular updates to Skype over time. We received valuable feedback since the launch of Skype for Windows 8 and you can bet we will continue to listen as we launch Windows 8.1.

With Skype in Windows 8.1 it will be easier than ever to connect and do more with the special people in your life, in any moment. We’re eager for you to get your hands on it- stay tuned for more from us in the coming months!

  1. Since Skype is replacing Messenger, will it finally get support for Facebook Chat? The advantage of the Windows Phone messaging app is that it combines multiple communication services into a single app. Windows 8.1 currently doesn’t have something that offers the same depth of functionality.
