Skype for Android 4.0 Update: We Heard You

We are launching a minor update to Skype for Android today to address some of the feedback we’ve received over the past week. We heard you loud and clear and want to provide you with the best experience possible when using the redesigned application.

The following changes have been made:

  • You wanted an easier way to sign out. Now you can find this option by hitting the Menu key or on any of these navigation screens: Recent, Favorites, People and Profile.
  • We addressed a bug that was not allowing users to go online or make/receive calls if their status was last set to offline in version 3.2 before upgrading to version 4.0.
  • Enabled video for devices that could previously make video calls in version 3.2.
  • Improved dialog translations for Russian, Brazilian Portuguese and Traditional Chinese.

You can download the update starting today in the Play Store.

We’re always looking to improve your experience on Skype and pay close attention to your feedback. To get the latest news and tips, follow us on Twitter and Facebook, or join us on the Skype Community.

  1. extremely frustrated with the latest version. the previous version worked fine on samsung galaxy SIII mini. updated to 4.0.19550 and now can’t make or answer video calls. when calling or receiving a video call the video screen appears briefly showing a frozen image from my video with non-functional buttons to accept or decline the call and a message saying ‘busy’ when attempting to either make or accept a call. uninstalling and re-installing has made no difference.

Hi Rob, try the latest version of the app and let us know if that works for you. Thanks! -Shana from Skype

  2. still would be great for galaxy phone users to disable video calling if they felt so inclined… and i do. that call button is in a very inconvenient spot.

  3. I must be missing something, because when I go to the google play store on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and search for Skype all I see is Ver… Not version 4.

I’m having Bluetooth problems and was hoping this update might fix things (fingers crossed).
