Skype for Windows Phone 8 updated, now with HD Video!
Today we have released an update for the Skype for Windows Phone 8 Preview, version 2.4
In this release, we focused on increasing quality & reliability while also adding new capabilities based on customer feedback. Get the updated version now from Windows Phone Store.
Here are just a few of the new capabilities you can enjoy:
Our Best Video Calling Experience Yet
Using the hardware acceleration capability of Windows Phone 8, this is our first smartphone app to enable free face-to-face video calls in crisp, clear and beautifully lifelike HD. We have significantly improved video calling quality for all users, offering VGA video on lower end handsets and 720P HD on higher-end devices including the Nokia Lumia 920, HTC 8X and Samsung Ativ S. And the app even intelligently determines the best quality available based on the speed of your connection. Additionally, we’ve added landscape mode for calls, and the ability to switch between front and back cameras for you to chat in the most comfortable way possible.
Centered Around Your People
All of your Skype contacts will be listed in the People Hub (for users with the latest update to Windows Phone 8), making it easy to start conversations on Skype even when you’re not running the app.
Listening to Your Feedback
We’re hugely thankful for the continued feedback as we put the finishing touches on Skype for Windows Phone 8. Many users asked for the ability to switch between accounts, and we’ve added that in this update – just tap on your profile picture and choose “switch accounts” from the menu.
We know that the reliability of notifications and staying available when the app is closed have been a problem for some users – and we’ve worked hard to improve that in this latest update.
We’re always looking for ways to improve your experience and pay close attention to feedback provided by you. To get the latest Skype news and tips about how to make your experience with Skype better than ever, follow us on Twitter and Facebook, or join us on the Skype Support Network.

Awesome too see Windows Phone getting some love from Skype!
I hope the Skype teams stays “WinPhocused” and brings us to feature parity with iOS and Android…and then surpasses them so that the best experience will always be on the “home platform”
I’ve already downloaded it, so now I need some of my contacts to play with me on a work day!
