Skype hosting BlogHer Entrepreneurs this week – join us!
This Thursday and Friday, Skype is hosting an event that we’re really excited about — the third annual BlogHer Entrepreneurs conference — where budding entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to network with and learn from some of Silicon Valley’s leading movers and shakers. The event will take place March 21-22 at the Microsoft Conference Center, 1065 La Avenida in Mountain View, CA.
We had a chance to catch up with BlogHer co-founder Lisa Stone last week, and asked her what she was most excited about with respect to this year’s event. Here’s what she told us:
“This is an incredible opportunity for up-and-coming women entrepreneurs – there’s nowhere else that they can get the life-lessons and one-on-one time with such experienced businesswomen all in one place. I’m thrilled to be a part of it! What am I most excited about? There are three things…
First, Pattie Sellers, creator of the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit, is going to keynote a panel of VCs and analysts who will be discussing trends that entrepreneurs should be aware of when pitching for funding. I got some very valuable advice when BlogHer was raising money, and I think it will be an exceptionally educational panel for the audience. I’m also excited about the opportunity for this community to meet Pattie!
Second, I’m excited about the mentoring sessions. We know from prior events and surveys how valuable it is for budding entrepreneurs to be able to get that one on one advice from other business leaders, and we’re working to ensure that every mentor/mentee pairing is a good one, based on the needs and questions of the mentees – it’s a very unique opportunity.
And finally, I’m excited because this event is almost like a “Masters of Entrepreneurship – in-a-box.” In just two days, the attendees will hear from experienced business leaders on everything from negotiating deals to hiring developers to manufacturing considerations to securing funding. It’s going to be a rich educational event!”
In addition to Pattie, Lisa and many other brilliant businesswomen, Skype CMO Elisa Steele will be speaking on the importance of taking risks, and I will be participating in the panel on Friday, March 22, called The Social Imperative. We’re also doing a demo of all the great ways you can use Skype in your business – you won’t want to miss it.
So if you’re in the area, come join the fun – register here, and let us know in the comments if you plan to come – we’ll keep an eye out for you! And watch this space, as later this week we’ll post an interview with Lisa Stone about how she got her business going, tips she’s learned along the way and how important Skype has been to making it all happen.
