Santa Claus, Saint Nick, Kris Kringle – however you refer to him, this is certainly the time of year when everyone wants to know what’s going on in his world. With a workshop in the North Pole to run, elves to oversee, reindeer to tend to and an endless amount of gifts to deliver, it’s a wonder that a year is enough time for Santa to get everything prepared.
That’s why we we’re excited to share this exclusive interview with Father Christmas himself! Read our chat with the big man about what he is up to and how Skype enables him to stay organized during the holiday season.
So Santa…how did you start using Skype?
I’m always looking for new ways to keep in touch with Mrs. Claus and my elves throughout the day during the busy season. Over the years, I’ve constantly searched for different suggestions on how I can do this…now, Skype is my solution!
Do your elves use Skype too?
Burt, one of my best elves, suggested that I try instant messaging. After giving it a whirl, I’ve found that I can send and receive quick updates from my elves on the status of the toys they’re constructing in my workshop.
I remember last year, my sleigh broke down and instant messaging quickly saved the day. One of my elves was able to show up instantly to repair the damage so that my reindeer and I could continue delivering gifts . It was a close call, but with just a few swipes of the keyboard on my cell phone and Christmas was saved!
How has the workshop reacted since starting to use Skype?
The elves love it! Each year so much needs to be accomplished and using Skype has helped things get done quicker in the North Pole. When they aren’t zipping around the workshop, they’re guiding younger elves through video calls on how to tinker with toys, how to bake Mrs. Claus’ famous gingerbread cookies and share their enthusiasm for Christmas globally.
When you’re circling the globe, how do you keep track of which houses you’ve been to and which ones you haven’t?
With a long list of houses to visit in just one night, I find it helpful to have a map pin pointing every stop. Before I even step foot in my sleigh, important map files are sent to my sleigh’s onboard computer. Should I still get lost, my elves are only a quick voice call away!
Anything special you plan to do this Christmas that you haven’t before?
Each year, so many children send me their wish lists, both those that are naughty and those that are nice. To really show my deep appreciation for their letters, I’ll be reaching out to send more Christmas cheer than ever before by calling in via Skype to a few lucky classrooms this year !
