Spring is a popular time for relocating – and whether you’re moving down the block, to another state, or even overseas, there’s always plenty to organize. But there’s no need to worry as using Skype can help make moving easier.
Here are five ways you can make your move – and settling in to your new home – easier, just by using Skype.
1. Find your new home with Skype
Finding your perfect new pad can take some doing – especially if you’re moving overseas or struggle to find any time to go to viewings or to the realtor’s office. But you can make things a lot easier by using Skype.
You can save time and money by using Skype to make cheap calls to agencies and real estate agents. You can ask them to send you details of any properties that fit your requirements using Skype’s file transfer feature, so you receive those details immediately.
Some agencies might even be able to give you a virtual tour of a property via a Skype video call – just ask them to use Skype on their Windows Phone, Android, iPhone, or iPad when they call and they can tell you all about the property and show you at the same time..
Of course, you’ll want to go and see any property you like the look of in person before you sign on the dotted line – but you don’t need to take the whole family with you to get a second opinion. Just use Skype to send them photos of your prospective new home or arrange to video call them while you’re viewing it, so they can see it with you.
2. Find a new job with Skype
If you aren’t relocating because of work, you’ll probably need to find a new job in your new home town or city too. Luckily, using Skype can make this a much quicker, simpler and cheaper process.
You can use Skype to contact people you know to see if they’ve heard of any jobs going in the area you’re moving to and save money by making Skype calls to potential employers.
More and more companies are now using Skype video calling to conduct interviews – so, if you’re offered an interview, why not ask if it would be possible to conduct it over Skype? That way you might be able to get the perfect job without needing to take time out to travel before you move.

3. Arrange your move with Skype
Using Skype to arrange your move can help you to save time and money as well. You can contact all the people you need to speak to in order to plan your move for less – including moving, cleaning and removal companies, lawyers, utility companies and so on – thanks to Skype’s free calls and cheap international calls.
You can even use Skype to help minimize your belongings to save you from having to transport them to your new home. Relocating is the perfect excuse to have a clear out – and you can use Skype to call charities to arrange for them collect your unwanted furniture or even have an online yard sale and auction off what you don’t need to friends and family members via a group video call.
4. Settle in quicker using Skype
Moving to a new location can be difficult at first – but Skype can help make settling in much easier.
Make sure you add new colleagues and neighbors to your Skype contact lists, so you can get to know them better. They might even introduce you to their friends in the area too, so you can build up a network in your new hometown or city.
And if you’re single, online dating can be a great way to meet someone when you’re in a new place.
Once you’ve made contact with someone you like the sound of, you can call them, use instant messaging or even set up a video chat date to get to know them better before meeting them face-to-face. Just check out our digital dating dos and don’ts before you give Cupid a call.
5. Stay in touch using Skype
With Skype, being apart from your family and friends isn’t an issue – you can still stay in touch with them and share celebrations and special moments, wherever you are in the world, so you’ll feel close to them all the time.
Cheap Skype calls and instant messaging enable you to chat to the folks back home whenever you like – and you won’t need to worry about racking up bills calling long-distance either. If your friends aren’t online, you can always send cheap SMS text messages on Skype to stay in touch.
You can see your loved ones face-to-face with a few clicks of a mouse with a Skype video call, so you can see still join in with the big (and small) events anytime you can’t be there in person – whether that’s a summer party, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, or Easter.
