Celebrate April's major dates with your loved ones, using Skype

April is a time for celebrating – and you can use Skype to help you to connect with friends and family during the month’s main events, like Easter and Passover. Read on to find out more…

Sharing the prepararationing via Skype

Whether you’re getting together with the family for Easter, Passover, or just to salute welcome Spring, you’ll have plenty to do beforehand – but you can make the preparations more fun by sharing them with friends and relatives using Skype.

Family meals are central to many celebrations – and you can use video calls and instant messaging to chat with your loved ones about your plans and share some hints and tips. You can even send each other your favourite recipes using Skype instant messaging’s file transfer function.

Video calling is a great way to keep yourself entertained when you’re in the kitchen too. You can chat while you’re preparing and cooking your meal, and even help each other out if you’re not too hot on cooking up a certain recipe.

You can also use Skype to involve your kids in the celebration preparations too – set up a video call between your little ones and their friends or cousins, for example, and they can get crafty together by decorating Easter eggs and Easter bonnets, making Passover Seder plates and matzoh covers, and designing e-cards to send to each other via instant messaging.

Sharing the celebrations via Skype

Skype’s also the perfect tool to help you to share your holiday celebrations with friends and family who can’t be there in person too.

You can even invite them to join you for dinner via a video call. Set up your PC, laptop, iPad, mobile phone or Skype-friendly TV in your family room or dining room and you can see what’s going on in each other’s homes, admire each other’s culinary creations and chat as if you were all eating around the same table.

You can also get your friends and family involved in other activities on the big day. Grandparents could play a central part in an Easter egg hunt, matzoh hunt, or general spring Spring treasure hunt by reading out pre-prepared clues on a call or video call – you can write the clues for them and send to them via Skype beforehand, so it’s all organized.

And it’s not just your celebrations that you can share. If you have friends or family in other parts of the world, you can take advantage of cheap international calls or video calls to find out what’s being celebrated where they are tooin their part of the world, so your kids can get a taste of how the rest of the world marks April’s big days.
