29 million people online on Skype
We’ve passed another milestone – at approximately 1800 GMT yesterday, there were more than 29 million people online on Skype. Another record broken, and an opportunity for us to remind you that you can get Skype in all sorts of places – on your computer, on your mobile and even on your TV.
Happy calling!
At long last Skype management are quoting the number of people signed on as a measure of user population rather than the total number of accounts/downloads.
Well done guys You may have had a bit of a wobble in terms of direction a couple of years ago, but you seem to be back on track now. You just need to fix your support arrangements then business can make good use of your services.
I use Skype on my iPad’s 3G and my iPhone via wifi. It’s as good as any cell service but way cheaper and without the painful customer service. I live my life and get an email the instant someone leaves a message. I return calls when I’m able. I love being free, rather than a slave panicking to take incoming calls at inopportune times.
I also love video calls, but it’s so secondary to the way I really use. I have my own number for about $4/month where anyone can call me from cell or landline, and i can make unlimited calls to any number, even non-skype numbers, for about $2 a month.
I only wish Skype had regular text messaging. Maybe I didn’t see that, but my impression is I can only send and not receive text from cell phones. But hey, everyone can email me from their smart phones, and it’s never an issue when I tell people I don’t get texts. People are impressed that I don’t pay for cell service!
…on your iPad?
THATS GREAT AND APPRECIATE ABLE !)!)!)
And with well over 0.005% of those being paying customers, Skype has never been in a stronger position.
Double feeling:
1. Congrats with new record!
2. we “can get Skype in all sorts of places” except (still) not on Blackberry if not with certain limited providers!
lvl
It would be several million more if you sorted out video for Android users!!
