The Qik acquisition is complete
I’m happy to confirm that we’ve completed the acquisition of Qik. The transfer of shares and funds between the shareholders of Qik and Skype was completed today and Qik is now under the ownership of Skype. We’re very excited about this move, and look forward to working together with the Qik team to make our mobile video products even better.
So should I keep my qik apps, or just ditch them?
So what does this mean for Qik users on Sprint Phones?
Ok, So When Is Skype Video Chat For Android Coming Out.? You Promised Us It Would Be Out By The End Of 2010 But Chose To Release It For iPhone Instead. WTF.????? Many Of Us Android Users Are Pissed Off. Now That Skype Had Acquired Qik, Does That Mean Skype With Video Chat Will Be Coming To My Evo Soon.?
Please, PLEASE, update the Qik Video Camera Pro for iPhone. I’m using an 3G iPhone, and it’s a great app, but it could be a lot better, starting with a simplified GUI. Thanks.
How is Skype going to use Qik? How is this going to help Android and iPod Touch users?
Nice work, Neil. I love Skype video chat and I’m looking forward to your mobile apps.
Are there plans you can share with us as to what “working together with the Qik team to make our mobile video products even better” might entail?
I, like many, see a need for video chat compatibility between mobiles and computers (and everything else in between, i.e. netbooks, tablets). There are some apps that advertise the capability such as Yahoo! Messenger, but either fail fulfill service as advertised or do so inconsistently/unstably. I have been using Skype on my MacBooks for ages, and would definitely be thrilled to see Skype bridge the gap between mobiles and personal computers, especially with the acquisition of Qik (which I have gotten to “work” once, though I believe many of the problems have to do with Sprint’s in-extensive 4G network as experienced in Seattle and Honolulu). In any case, I’ll be keeping my eyes and ears open for developments!
Cheers,
Cyrus
Guess it’s time to delete that app bc we’ll never see another update for android. =(
