Skype coming soon to Sony BRAVIA and VIZIO VIA TVs

Skype on your TVLast year at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), we ushered in a new era of face-to-face communications with the introduction of Skype-enabled TVs. This year at CES, we’re making further strides in the living room by making it even easier to get Skype on your TV.

I’m pleased to let you know that Sony and Vizio plan on shipping Skype-enabled Sony BRAVIA and VIZIO VIA TVs later this year, joining the products from Panasonic and Samsung that are already available to buy.

We’ve also been working with Panasonic and Sony to make it easy for you to get Skype on your existing TV. Soon you’ll be able to buy a Skype-enabled Panasonic or Sony Blu-ray Player and webcam and enjoy rich, real-time video conversations with friends and family around the world from your living room.

Ubiquity, intimacy, accessibility: this is what Skype is all about. I’m proud to say that we’re keeping our promise of letting you make video calls wherever you choose, including from your TV. So here’s to looking at you – or to you looking at your wife, grandchild or best friend — for free, from the comfort of your couch.

I can’t wait for the blu-ray players! Definitely going to buy one to go with my Bravia when it comes out
A lot better then connecting my computer to the tv with HDMI and putting a webcam on top

    I like this.

Good move.. but still a long way to ubiquity! All tvs should be able to Skype, not only some Expesive models!

I heard that Skype on iPhone can’t talk to TV based Skype. True?

That’s lovely and everything, but buying a whole new telly just for Skype is ridiculous.
All we want is a little box with enough processing power to run skype and a webcam and mic that plugs in via HDMI or even SCART. Light flashes to let you know someone is calling and bob’s your uncle. Then we can stick one on every telly in the house.
If one of your competitors offers it first then watch us jump…
Oh yes, and people have been crying out for a PS3 version for over a year, what gives?

I hope ‘Skype-enabled .. Sony Blu-ray Player’ includes the PS3! If Sony is on board, surely this is possible!

Working with Sony? Why not take advantage of the PS3 as the Eyetoy is already available for it? Simply release Skype for the PS3 and you have reached all TVs at once. I’m sure Kinect can pull the same tricks.

You must be tired of hearing this, but now that Skype can be found on Sony PSPs, the new TVs, new blu-ray players and NOT on the PS3 (which has millions of frequently on devices in the living rooms, connected to TVs, with cameras connected already…???) – is there a plan?

What happened to LG TVs announced during last years CES? To date in europe, Skype still does not exist. I also don’t understand why LG is no longer being mentioned here. Really frustrating for those who bought LG Infinia TV’s expecting Skype will be available. Looks like its sounding like NEVER!
