Skype 1.0.2 for Android
We are glad to release an updated version of Skype for Android. This release introduces two new much-requested features:
* Saving Skype for Android to an SD card (with Android OS 2.2)
* Support for Samsung Galaxy S (with Android OS 2.2)
Head over to skype.com/m on your Android handset or to the Android Market to get the updated app to your phone. Share your thoughts and feelings with us on our forums about Skype for Android.
Support for Saving Skype on SD card
It is now possible to save Skype for Android on your SD Card, however whilst the application is stored on your SD Card, the Skype data while you use the application is still stored on the internal memory of your handset. The data storage on your phone depends on your account activities, and we expect it to be around 15MB for normal users. This feature works only with Android OS 2.2.
Support for Samsung Galaxy S
Skype 1.0.2 for Android now supports Samsung Galaxy S phone, if it is upgraded to Android OS 2.2. Check out the Samsung Mobile website for upgrade instructions.
You can read about all the features on the Skype for Android product page.

@Skype: Your Andoid app uses the sensors of my Galaxy S always when it is running. (Yes, also with this new version.) You can check it yourself via the “Spare Parts” app -> Battery Histroy -> Sensorusage (or so.. my phone has a different locale.) This straints the battery more than needed.
Please address the known issue regarding syncing/sorting of the native address book. Until this is fixed Skype for Android is of little use to me.
Why can’t I sent SMS via the Skype app?
and how to exit/close the application WITHOUT turning off my phone?
I have the same question. I tried skype.com/m on my Verizon Wireless Samsung Galaxy Tab with Android 2.2, and it only installed 1.0.0.659, not 1.0.2. Would love to see the new 1.0.2, so I wonder what the catch is?
Meanwhile, I was mucking about in Settings > Applications > All, stopping some Verizon stuff, clearing data out of some items, and then went back to Skype. To my wild surprise, I briefly had Skype Mobile-To-PC calling over WiFi working perfectly today. I made a test call and then a call to someone in Cairo. But then when I closed Skype and went back in, the Mobile-To-PC over WiFi dialer just dies instantly with no error message and no way to debug what’s going on. I am suspecting that the call dialer is intercepted from some Verizon thing, and I need to turn that off permanently. See, I am a customer who does not have a Verizon data, text, or calling plan, and purely want to use Skype over WiFi. I wish a developer would contact me because I would like to try some things. I am a Linux person (Ubuntu, and know how to do Bash programming), so perhaps I can help them debug this. So, Skype — you know how to reach me, guys. I really want to get this working on the Samsung Galaxy Tab. I bet high odds that it’s just something simple that’s preventing this. I mean — it worked briefly once.
The ongoing discussion about this is here:

I’m seeing the release notes for 1.0.2, but the download is indicated as 1.0.0.659.

Hi,
Since the failure, I can’t download skype on Android Market, because ” Insufficient storage available “. But I have 700 MB free on my phone and 2 GB on my SD card.
Can you help me, please ?
I have HTC Desire HD with android 2.2 (Froyo).
I am extremely disappointed that Skype for the Android Galaxy S with OS 2.2 does not support video from the Galaxy camera. I purchased this device from Verizon with the intention of sharing the video and screen applications for business use and was chagrined to learn that the camera is currently not supported. I do not wish to download another video conferencing application to the Galaxy and wish Skype would catch up to the technology?
How do you manage/clear IM messages on Skype for Android? There is no option to turn off history. After a chat even when I ‘clear’ from menu in Events, or delete history, next time I load chat client to same person all previous chat history reloads. Tried quitting skype, killing app in memory, powering down phone… nothing can get rid of those chat messages from history! This is a real security/privacy issue…
Can Android developers explain…
1. why chat history/messages with a chat client
cannot be deleted even after Events in menu is cleared?
Message Options has view contact profile & copy text only.
2. Copy text goes where?

Hi, I have installed the newest version of Skype, It is running proprerly I guess. However since I am only an occasional user I do not want to have it permanently ON. I was wondering if there is instead of the forced close option a more conveniet alternative how to close the application. thank you
