Skype 1.0.1 for Android

Skype 1.0.1 for Android is here.

First of all, we’d like to thank everyone for the feedback given on the initial release of Skype for Android.

With Skype for Android 1.0.1, we focused on the areas we received feedback on from our customers. In short the most important improvements for this release are:

* 320*240 and 240*400 screen resolutions are now supported.
* Hardware back key is now supported.
* Signing out from Skype now exits Skype.
* Reduced power consumption in idle mode.
* Improved login stability and behavior.
* Improved performance with large contact lists.
* Reduced application size.
* General bug fixes.

Start downloading now the updated version of Skype for Android from Android Market or browse from your phone to skype.com/m, you can also see more details on our Skype for Android page. Let us know what you think about this release by visiting our forums.

New screen resolutions supported

We have introduced support for lower screen resolutions used on many popular Android devices, including the HTC Wildfire.

Hardware back key

When sending Skype to background with hardware back key, the Skype user interface process ends, but the library process continues to run in the background. As a result, you’ll still be able to receive incoming calls and IMs. This should help reduce Skype’s battery consumption while it’s in the background.

Signing out now exits Skype

When you sign out from Skype then it now exits the Skype application.

    I have a phone Nexus One with 2.2.1. I use gsm operator from Belarus. In the market Skype doesn’t find. Why?

    Question: Is any of these changes available to the VZW Skype mobile version? The doubt comes because the version for Verizon is higher than this release. Plus it would appear that they are two different software versions.

    Ehm, why don’t you guys support HTC Tattoo, when you support HTC Wildfire! I think us Tattoo-guys have suffered enough from HTCs missing updates :(

    When is skype going to listen to it’s customers and make the app movable to the sd card? most people in the market have written about it and yet skype still doesn’t listen. I actually liked using nimbuzz more until once again skype decided to drop that app to piss off more android customers. Get it together skype cause android is a fast growing platform and you might loose customers over other voip services offered in the android market.

    Great upgrade, it now works better on Dell Streak and resolved problems with very low sound levels from first release. Yet to test if other features live up to the promises (e.g. lower battery consumtion) but looking good so far!

    Bump ‘move to SD’

    I would like to know if the you have fixed the samsung galaxy s problem ? Do we realy have to wait for froyo?? Here in Spain the android 2.2 upgrade is having delays, and meanwile we can´t use skype…

  19. mabar81 said 906 days ago

    It seems that this version has issues with android’s contacts sync: it works only the very first time, then it doesn’t update contacts pictures or names. The only solution is to clear app data, then relogin and perform a new full sync. I’m using an Acer Liquid with the latest froyo firmware. Previous version seemed OK.

  20. eoin.ryan said 900 days ago

    Well, thanks for this upgrade. It’s working adequately for me, on a desire with 2.2.

    One big problem is that after 3/4 mins of a Skype call, call quality drops to unusable levels. I suspect that it might be a memory-usage issue.

    Would the ability to move the app to the SD card improve this?

  25. luckyc1p8 said 767 days ago

    On my Dell Streak, I had to uninstall Skype because it was not working properly , when I reinstalled I had the same problems many people have, “there is not space for reinstallation”. If your answer is: “You have to do a Deep reset of the system” I think it is not a solution, Do I have to loose 175 applications I have in my Streak because there is a bug (only in Skype, not in any other apps) that leave some installation debris on the system?
    I think you have to consider to fix this issue that thousand people have.
    It is not possible that it always says that there is not space for reinstallation. I have plenty of space, it is clearly a bug.
    Thanks for reading,
    I hope for the best, good work.
    Lucky
