Looks great. Still missing monochrome menubar items though

So, where is the multiple account feature gone to?
    Otherwise, pretty nifty update…

    woa. Too big, too large…

    Everyone doesn’t have a 22” screen …

I installed it on my Mac and in a matter of 5 minutes I re-installed the 2.8 version again. I personally don’t like the big layout. I have 3 24″ monitors connected to my computer and would like to keep some privacy than showing my contact list with the big icons and the large space in-between. I could not find a way to make the chat font appear smaller and would easily be able to read the chat from being four yards away from my computer.

I also could not see a way to switch the layout to the older style (as you can do on the Windows version). I hope that you guys will work on it to include this option. I am usually open to change, but right here I don’t feel it is working for the better.

The new Skype for Mac is awesome! However, I would suggest changing the status icons (others could also become consistent) with the ones in Windows version – higher resolution, lively colors, more subtle look. Also, it would be nice to have contacts available in the same way like in the Windows version, where the user has the choice to view either Contacts or Recent events, because scrolling through large contact lists (mine has about 180 contacts) in the current contacts view is not as convenient as it could be scrolling the smaller list (like the Windows version). The current list takes up a lot of space (less contacts visible and reachable at once) and does not feel smooth when scrolling and all these icons have to pop out when the mouse hovers over them.
Other than that, I am really excited about the way that Skype is going. Thank you.

P.S. The ‘Submit’ button in ‘Provide Skype Feedback’ does not appear to be doing anything.

Hi. I cannot seem to locate the voicemails in this version of the Beta. Am I able to access my voicemails?

The new UI for Skype 5 beta is totally unusable. Big and ugly!!!

Thanks, but hell NO!!! Was this your idea of a Halloween scare? Do you think that all mac skype users are visually impaired so that they would need a full screen application for chatting?

    TONS of bugs
The chat doesn’t works, the chat display old conversation even if removed, the notification badge on Skype icon doesn’t go away even if a message is read.

Now the only way to read a chat message is through Growl..

    Again, thanks for the update.
It saddens me, however, that the layout has been messed up which resulted in that basic functionality has now been taken away. It’s great with group video calling and all but not with the result of the application being totally useless in all other aspects .

Let’s hope that you will fix this in upcoming versions!
Skype is still the best IM for Mac in my opinion.

How come I can not put my video call in full screen mode? I was never fond of the Windows Skype’s looks since v4, and now I started to dislike the Mac Skype’s look. It takes too much space on my desktop, the previous version gave me a cleaner desktop experience, and I could peek at my contacts list without having to lose 1/3 of my desktop. The previous version was also better by having the video call separated from the chat window, because I could send files by dragging them to the chat window without having to resize the vide, just changing windows. This new version is only one day old and is already giving me headaches. I’ll roll back to 2.8

New GUI sucks!! Where is my standard contact list?!?!?!?!? and… why skype window is so big!!! bleah! -.-

I’ve tested your “new” Mac beta version. I’m wondering if you all have serious problems with your company and you’re trying to sink it. I’ve immediately uninstalled this fine piece of crap. If the future releases of your software will look like this beta… oh well: Good Bye Skype!

Morning, I can see the work done behind this new version but I was surprise by the huge amount of screen it takes!! I’ve just delete it to go back to the 2.8 version that is so small and efficient. Maybe you should not see it on your 27inches developement iMac but also on a 13 or 15 inches screen. It is the biggest windows I have ever seen. I hope you could do something about it. Regards, Frederic Dot

What is it? Is it new Skype? I hope design will be repaired

Please give me an option to change back to the old UI! Please!!

  18. aniskhwaja said 955 days ago

The new UI truly sucks, there is so much wasted space. I am going back to 2.8 and will only run the beta for video calling. The old 2.8 was close to perfect floating contact list with all the contacts including non-skype contacts for phones, and a chat window separate conversation window and separate dialer. This new UI has made skype more PC like but its a huge step backwards. Apart from the wasted space the single focal point for everything is not good, because in my workflow i could be in a voice chat or a video chat in one window and still be doing Instant messaging in other with the old UI this is impossible to do with the new interface.

I tried to submit a feedback but the form doesn’t work, once I hit submit it doesn’t show anything (a status bar would be appreciated), anyway I just want to tell you that once you navigate with keyboard shortcuts between chat conversations you loose focus on the message textarea and this force you to move one hands to the mouse or hit tab key

  21. jvendryes said 955 days ago

It’s great that the new version is caught up to the PC but you have got to do something to the interface of this version. For one, the foot print is WAY to big, even at it’s smallest. There’s no reason this should take up 1/3rd my viewable screen at a 1680×1050 resolution. Trying to use the pop out contact list isn’t so bad, except that its forced to sit on top of all my windows. Really missing the ability to have a contact list separate from the chat windows too… I know it’s beta but let’s get things moving in the right direction for your users.

Hey Skype… I just tried 5.0 not impressed!
I’m comfortably back to the current format…. aahhh that’s better.

Where’s Facebook integration, so hyped for Win version?

  24. rhuddgaer said 953 days ago

I downloaded the new skype yesterday and, even though my menu bar shows skype on absolutely nothing comes up and there is no response to anything I click on. Please can I have my old skype back

I have a Mac. The 5.0 version wiped out my Skype access. I get a message that it is not supported on my architecture. Skype chat personnel was unable to suggest a solution. How do I find the old 2.8 version which I was quite happy with?
