[Resolved] Skype for Mac login issues

Update on 29.10.2010

We have just released a hotfix to Skype 2.8 for Mac which resolves the login problems.

Download the update now and read more about the hotfix.

We apologize once again for the trouble caused.

Original message:

Some of you may be experiencing login issues with Skype 2.8 for Mac.

We are working hard to resolve this issue quickly. We will post further updates here until the issue has been resolved.

Affected are users who have either just installed Skype 2.8 for Mac on their computers for first time or have deleted the Skype preferences folder located at ~/Library/Application Support/Skype.

If you are an affected user, then you will likely experience a very slow first login to Skype, or Skype login may fail with an error message about “login timeout” or “internet connection issue”.

The issue should not impact existing Mac users who have recently logged into Skype, only new users who have just downloaded Skype 2.8 for Mac for the first time or who have deleted the above mentioned folder.

Apologies if you are experiencing these issues and thanks for your patience.
Skype for Mac team.

Best way to get the latest version to work is probably to download an old version @ http://mac.oldapps.com/skype.php?old_skype=32

I downloaded 2.7.0.330 and updated it automatically as Skype found a newer version.
    This worked for me.

Hm. I opened my first skype account, money was transferred. I tried to logIn and failed. Deleted the programm. Downloaded it new. Restarted my Mac. The Modem. Deleted and re-downloaded. I would like to get informed, when the problem is solved? It is not about my Mac, it is quite new and running on 10.6.2 version. Do I have to visit this blog daily? Please, if you can, contact me, when the problem is located?

    best regards. florianvonploetz

Hi! Just wanted to know the honest reason behind this disruption. I totally understand you need time, effort & money to rectify this problem however I would really appreciate it if someone advices me as to what is happening & what has been done so far. It is frustrating on both the consumer & skype provider but I would appreciate the feedback please. Thanks.

Yep! I’m one of the folks with MAC sign in issues. How long has this been going on?

Is there any sort of workaround in the meantime? I have two new computers (latest versions of OSX) that I can’t get to run Skype. Is it possible to download an earlier version of Skype that will work?
    Thanks in advance

Any way to be contacted when this issue is resolved instead of having to keep checking back?

I am a new user and am trying to log in but it won’t let me. It says “Can’t connect to Skype. Please check your network settings.” Is this part of the issue mentioned here or something different?

So? I can’t wait fpr a solution. Is it it possible to download an older version?

  17. krissieble said 963 days ago

Thanks for this last post. I copied the ~/Library/Application Support/Skype folder from my iMac (OSX 10.6.4) with a working Skype (2.8.0.851) to ~/Library/Application Support on my MacbookPro (OSX 10.6.4). Now Skype also works from the notebook. It is a bit clumsy having to do that for all accounts, though.
