Skype 2.1.1 for iPhone

We’ve just released Skype 2.1.1 for iPhone – download it now (opens in App Store).

  • You can now disable IM alerts.
  • The dialpad is now more responsive.
  • The behavior of the volume, when Skype interacts with other Apps, is now much better.
  • When your status is set to Do Not Disturb, notifications are not shown when Skype is in the background.

Multitasking is available only with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod 3rd Generation running iOS 4.

We recommend using Skype with iOS 3.1.x if you own an iPhone 3G or iPhone 2G.

Improvements

  • Improvements to DTMF tones.
  • You can now disable IM alerts.

Fixed issues

  • When switching Groups to 'Online Contacts', Skype sometimes crashed.
  • When receiving an incoming iPhone call, Skype crashed in certain situations on devices running iOS 3.x.
  • Skype calls were sometimes terminated, instead of being put on hold, if an incoming iPhone call arrived, on iOS 3.x.
  • Some hi-res images were missing for the iPhone 4
  • The volume on the device was inadvertently altered by Skype.
  • Now, when your status is set to Do Not Disturb (DND), notifications are not shown, when Skype is in the background.
  • In certain cases typing 0 (zero) was turning into a + sign on the dialpad.
  • Ringtones and DTMF tones were not respecting the silent mode in certain cases.

Known issues

  • IMs may not appear after they are sent, when Skype is run for the first time, if you have lots of Skype Contacts.
    • Workaround: After starting Skype, let it finish synchronising all your chats and contacts, before sending chat messages
  • The keyboard may disappear when declining an incoming call, if you have a chat open.
  • Audio might stop while listening to a voicemail, if it is interrupted by an incoming call.
    • Workaround: restart listening to the voicemail
  • Voicemail audio might switch from ear piece to speaker if you receive an incoming chat, while playing a voicemail.
  • Skype may crash when listening to a voicemail, if it is interrupted by an incoming chat tone.
  • When reading a chat in landscape mode an incoming Skype Call may be erroneously shown in landscape. Observed on iPod Touch (2nd generation).

Does this version fix the multi-tasking bug that kills the battery and makes the phone hot?

Thank you for fixing bugs, but we all await for video calling support!
This is the second or third update for iOS4.
Are you working on video calling? Can you please make announcements via your tweeter on any progress with video calling?

It’s brilliant but I think the whole world is waiting an app for Blackberry…what do you think?

And yet, still no Push Notifications for non 3g, 3GS, or 4 users. While all the users of new iphone/itouch reap the benefit of 4.0 backgrounding. The promise for push notifications are unfulfilled. We are the ones who had the first ‘backgrounding’ tech anyway! Honor your customers by releasing a REAL update!

    @cowanh00 No it does not.

They are somehow unwilling to even acknowledge their most glancing bug. Amazing.

How do you turn the alerts off?!?! There is still no “Skype” in Settings->Notifications, and no configuration screen in the app itself.

And why wasnt that there in the first place? Like Skype is so important, no one would ever consider turning off sounds/alerts/badges? Please.

have been trying this new version out, unfortunately it’s still heavy on battery even set to DND and with notifications turned off, still needs improving before it could be considered for full time use
