Get Skype on your Sony Ericsson phone

Skype is now available for the Sony Ericsson Satio, Vivaz and Vivaz pro – all you have to do is visit skype.com/m on your phone, and you’ll be able to download it with a couple of taps. These three ranges are based on the popular Symbian platform, adding yet more phones to the hundreds of millions out there already compatible with Skype.

Skype for Symbian lets you:

  • Make free Skype-to-Skype calls to your friends and family on Skype anywhere in the world*
  • Save money on calls and texts (SMS) to phones abroad
  • Send and receive instant messages to and from individuals or groups
  • Share pictures, videos and other files
  • Receive calls to your online number
  • See when your contacts are online and available to call or IM
  • Easily import names and numbers from your phone’s address book

Skype for Symbian will run on any Sony Ericsson smartphone using Symbian ^1, the latest version of the Symbian platform. Visit skype.com/m on your phone to download it now.

We recommend that you have an unlimited data plan to avoid incurring additional charges from your operator. You should also be aware that extra charges may apply if you use Skype over a mobile data connection when abroad.

I downloaded it but I can’t make calls, it says Calling…. call failed. I have tried Echo123, the sound service.

I own a SE Satio – tried to download Skype via the build-in browser and opera. Either way, Skype doesn’t seem to be supported/available…

I have a Satio and I can log in but I cannot get the test call to work.. just says failed

  9. dtsonev said 1065 days ago

On Satio when I run the downloaded file, the installer says that “The sertificate has expired”. wtf?

  10. entyla said 1065 days ago

i just tried downloading it again on my satio..it works this time..but yet to try to call….just a question to ask..the msging charge is still standard is it?

  11. peterparkes said 1064 days ago

@entyla Skype-to-Skype calls and instant messages are free; calls to regular phones cost a little. You’ll have to pay for data too, however, so it’s best if you have an unlimited data plan.

I don’t like cross-posting the same issue in two different places, but I’ll make an exception, because I don’t know what’s happening, and I’d like some light… So, as I said in the forum:

I recently downloaded the latest version (just visited skype.com/m and downloaded v1.1 for Symbian^1, which won’t complain about the device not being a Nokia anymore), and installed it on my Satio.

Tried it, but I only could get instant messaging to work, whilst calls won’t, though. The Skype test call fails while being placed (it returns an error). And, using Fring, I get the same results.

I read somewhere that this behaviour could be caused by helloox2 (my device is hacked). So, I followed the instructions on their website (which basically involve uninstalling the root certificate and delete its folder after the hack and then reboot), but this did not solve the issue at all…

Still trying, but I’d appreciate some help. Thanks in advance.

    Solved!

The problem was the voipaudiosrv installed with fring. Here is how to delete it, so BOTH skype and fring can work:

I installed skype on my Satio. Calls to Echo 123 works OK with the phone, but it does not work using my bluetooth headset. The headset is Sony Ericsson HBH-DS200. I sometimes can hear the other end in the headset, but the headset microphone does not work. The headset works perfectly on normal phone calls. Anyone else tried bluetooth with Satio?

How many Millions of Androiddevices have to be sold before you start thinking about them?

  16. jonnieboi said 1060 days ago

Satio should now be able to download, please use the device browser and not Opera…

After install it is also recommended to restart the phone…calling should work after this…

    I’m using SonyEricson Vivaz Pro:
I just got this program to run (sort of…)
I can’t see my user name when I’m typing it, or password or any **** , when I’m typing it in,
the program worked fine, except that it don’t remember me the next time,,,

  18. sp281513 said 1056 days ago

On Vivaz I could download Skype using built-in browser only – Opera 10 I prefered said there is no rev. for fo my device i.e. for Vivaz. Skype calling is good. Sound quality is better then Skype 4.1.0.141 on my netbook where echo is not cancelled properly even with earphone.
But there are PROBLEM. While Skype is calling and touch dark screen it light on not only screen but also blue LED on the side and red LED on the back. And both LEDs are on for ever even if I close connection and close Skype itself. It eat my battery! I need to make fake video recording in order stop red LED.:(

Install version 1.10. Do not save login and password, you must enter each time anew, flag “remember” is set.

    Hi Guys

Does skype in symbian support conference call? or we need to wait for latest version?

I have skype on my 5800, I noticed it does take up so much ram (does anyone have the same problem?) but I’m still grateful and loving it until latest version comes with better improvement, till then one thumb up! and can’t wait to put up the other thumb.

    Cheers
