Skype 4.2 for Windows hotfix 2

Today we have released a second hotfix for Skype 4.2 for Windows.

With this hotfix we have fixed a issue which was affecting people who were upgrading from older versions and had some old outstanding authorization requests which got displayed again to the users.

New hotfix and still no sys tray fix. It becomes very ridiculous.

I have a Logitech 9000 camera and am using Windows 7. Which is the best version of Skype for me to use. I am using 4.2.155 now, When I turn on my computer and go to use Skupe I have to unplug the camera and plug it in again for it to work. Is this a problem with Skype on with the web cam.

The Windows 7 bug with the system tray needs to be fixed, it’s extremely annoying, and will drive people away from Skype. The only solution I know of is to run Skype in compatibility mode for Vista SP2. But most people aren’t going to know that, they are just going to be annoyed, and change to a different program.

I rather miss some of the old features of Skype… like how it showed the last sign in date of a contact, which was very useful for me. Also whatever happened to the “Skype Me” option? Now when you search for new contacts, you have no clue if they are online or not when you send out a message, until you actually send a message… it’s a waste of time to send messages to people when you’re in the mood to meet someone new (I often used the feature to meet people from other countries and learn about their culture, it was GREAT fun!). Skype was great for that connecting people from across the globe. I wouldn’t have met some of the great people I had if not for Skype the way it was in 2003, to which some of those people have become like an extended family to me. Doesn’t need to be a true “Skype Me” status, but have an option of something like “Show me as online in the People Search” or something to that extent. As Skype is more than just a wonderful program with amazing features, people also use it as a quick social networking program. So yes, make some sort of option for that guys! ^___^

I installed Windows 7 Ultimate last week on my Dell Inspiron 6400 and then upgraded to Skype 4.2. The first week, Skype performed perfectly for audio/video/chat functions. Earlier this week, InnerPass requested an upgrade which I allowed (I love that app). Since then, Skype has been unable to connect audio or video when calling out or receiving a call. I’m not sure if this issue is InnerPass related. Chat is the only function I can do without locking up Skype. To reactivate Skype, I have to go to Task Manager and End Process the Skype .exe and then re-boot = very frustrating. Skype is now a MUST HAVE app. I really don’t want to uninstall Windows 7 but will if I absolutely have to.

    1. Can’t open skype. You are already signed in on this computer. Please sign out and try again.

    2. Could not write value Default Visible to key SOFTWAREMicrosoftInternetExplorerExtensions{898EA8C8-E7FF-479B-8935-AEC465303B9E5}

The first problem occurs when trying to log in. The second problem happened when trying to install skype. What can be done about these? I have windows 7 operating system. I have used skype before, on an older computer, and would now like to continue, but I am having problems. Could you help?

This is soooooo disappointing. I use this tool frequently to communicate with my staff overseas – if its not fixed soon, it looks like another alternative. Maybe send me the source and I’ll have my team fix it?

Hi, since my Skype upgraded, last week, I can not use it. Everything is okay until a video call and after a short time into the video call my CPU goes to 100% and my video and voice being sent to the other person become so choppy that I can not hold a conversation. It often is even difficult to hang up the call because the computer is running at 100% and it can take 30-60 seconds for it to recognize a click of the mouse. I have an Asus EEE 1101HA. It can run even heavy programs like Adobe Creative Suite with no problems so I am very surprised by this new issue with Skype. I have found an old version and will uninstal 4.2 and return to an old version but I’d like to know if there is a fix for this as I’d prefer to be running the most up to date version if possible.

I too am having problems with skype and windows 7. I sign in and skype shows open in icon tray and nothing else. I try to sign in again and get error message indicating that I am already signed in, that I will need to sign out.

This area appears to be where problems are identified. I see no responses. . . Where exactly do you keep the solutions? I find it hard to believe that since windows 7 has been released you have not solved this problem. . .

How about some help in your help section. Thanks.

Until today I had no problems with version 4.2 running on W7 64bit, apart from the annoying inability to play my voice mails. But as of today Skype refuses to run, and simply sets in the icon tray saying ‘connecting’. There seems to be an issue here, Skype!

I think since the last update, my SKYPE doesn’t start automatically when the pc starts up (windows vista ) and the icon isn’t in my notification tray.I always have to manually start it up. what is the fix for this, if any?
I can’t do the compatibility thing as with windows 7.

Hi, I had numerous problems with SKype version 4.2.0.158 on Windows XP 64bit SP2. The process skype.exe *32 was/is constantly running a high process count and eventually crashing my windows session.

I have now updated to 4.2.0.169 and hoping the dilema will end. So if this is an ongoing problem for 64bit OS’s, is there a fix for this?

I upgraded to Skype 5.0.0.152 and now it won’t run on my Windows XP software. It crashes when the skype.exe tries to start. What can I do?

  23. jenamtrah said 935 days ago

I use Windows7/64-bit and I can confirm that Skype.exe *32 is constantly locking up one of my two cores on my laptop. It drains the battery routinely. This is a very serious problem and needs to be fixed immediately. It’s really affecting my work. I’ve been using skype for many years. This is the first time I’ve had a problem like this!

    HELP!!
