Say hello to Skype for Symbian
Over 200 million more of you around the world can now download a great, full-featured Skype app to your mobile phones.
It’s ready to download now from our website or from the Ovi store, and it does everything you’d expect a great Skype app to do. Mark explains all in the video above, but in short, you can:
- make free Skype-to-Skype calls to other Skype users anywhere in the world
- save money on calls and texts with our low rates
- send and receive instant messages to and from individuals or groups
- share pictures, videos and other files
- receive calls to your online number
- see when Skype contacts are online and available to call or IM
- easily import names and numbers from the phone’s address book
You can call, text, IM and everything else whether you’re on a 3G or WiFi connection, so when you’re abroad, just pop in a local SIM card with an unlimited data plan – or find a WiFi zone – and you’ll be able to avoid those pesky roaming charges.

Hello Peter,
Well, Skype for Symbian Phones are a cool idea. And it works Great.
I’ve a question; is the Skype Symbian Version secure like the desktop version? Is the data transfer between the Skype users (Skype Symbian or Skype Desktop) encrypted?
Thanx.
Kind regards.

Can we please have an application for Android? At least for people outside USA (like India) where service provides DON’T restrict any service over data, including VOIP or tethering.
Android doesn’t stops you from VOIP apps, or we can download the app without going to Android market. Our service providers in INDIA don’t restrict any service over edge/3g, we can do unlimited tethering or voip. 3rd party Skype apps just don’t have the quality I now expect from Skype.
– Waiting to use my HTC Tattoo running Android to send and receive Skype calls to/from US numbers using Google voice with my Skype phone number, from India.
In wireless heaven (called India , wireless data plans cost $15 per month for unlimited data which can be used for voip or tethering too, no questions asked. And all our phones are unlocked with ZERO restrictions from service providers.
Too bad we don’t have a Skype app to use on Android phones, there was Skype Lite which at least let us maintain online presence without voip, but now that too is gone.
Waiting.
Thanks for this, I have been waiting for this for ages and it is a fantastic app, works perfectly with my N97! Of course I use it more around the house within my WLAN, because unlike India, 3G wireless data cost a fortune in Australia.
Again, many thanks Peter and SKYPE.

Why is this not released for the E75 which is otherwise a pretty good phone?
I want to say Hello to Skype 3G on iPhone. ( Still nothing. When will it release?
Why is this not released for the E75 rather E71, E72 and many models of the same category does support????
I’m running it on a Nokia N96 and it seems to be all fine so far, except one thing which I assume is a bug. If I send an SMS from the mobile version of Skype, the recipient sees my Skype name on their SMS inbox, however my Skype account is set up to display my mobile number on SMS messages, and works as such from my desktop version of Skype.
Will this SMS issue be fixed on the next update of this app?
this fantastic application proves skype is relly generous as with subscription i can whenever i want, reach my family overseas for cheap.
The call quality is incomparable; no other mobile voip appl can do this job; On my e71 every thing runs fine and it is even magic; I am planing now to compare this version of skype on n97 mini. Again cheers mates
I’d rather say hello to Skype over 3G on the iPhone.
Still waiting… you are really dropping the ball on this one.
I really like the video — can you tell me what kind of video camera you used!?
Thanks!
Skype app for Nokia N97
When someone rings my landline skype number, there does not seem to be a way of actually answering the call. The app works in that a ringing sound is made.
thanks,
Peter
I installed it on my E55 and it is working flawlessly. I don’t understand why E55 and other new models are not included in the compatible device list. Are you guys tryint to fend off customers now??
@sapient.skype the devices listed are ones we’ve tested the app on – if it works well on your E55, that’s great, but we can’t make any promises for other people. Hope that makes sense
Hi,
Will someone help me? I live in Mallorca, my family are in St Lucia and the UK we all speak via Skype and its fantastic on our computers but I want to speak via a Spanish mobile to a UK mobile free and this is not possible yet? Only UK Ireland and Sweden. Will this change, why is it not possible now? Could I buy a pocket pc and use my vodaphone modem with it to create a mobile that does Skype to Skype free calls from Spain to UK. Skype amazing but do not want to speak on the computer all the time and do not want to pay for a call I know can be otherwise free. Thankyou
@sapient.skype hi. Is there a way to download it on a PC and then run the installer? I tried the OVI store and Skype’s website. There is no link to download it from. Please help. I too have an E55
Excellent idea. What about the “older” versions like 9300? IF it will be available, When?
Thank you
Hello,
Just put thi skype for symbian on my Nokia E51. Earlier I used the skype software downloaded to my E51 and before I called someone it asked me if I wanted to dial a local number first. I always used that because I dial frequently to the states. Question. I have a world subscription and a local number in Finland that allows me to call through skype to other countries while I am in Finland. Now when I have this new version of skype for symbian it dials the number directly and does not ask me if I want skype to dial a local number like it did earlier. How does this work with my world subscription and data transfer charges? I don’t want extra data charges on my phone bill because earlier I didn’t get any since it dialed a local number before calling to other countries.
Thanks for your help!
I have an E55 and I tried to install and use Skype 1.0.0.2.
Everithing were more or less ok, but it drain the phone battery very quickly.
(one time the phone became hot and clear out the battery within 2-3 hours).
Now I uninstall Skype and wait until a right version will be ready.
Bye.

You bastars…. Skype was founded in estonia not in Canada shit. We sell it for you! So little respect and credits to estonian people please!!
Hi! I’am very glad to use skype in my Nokia E72 with interskype call possibility. I was very waiting for it…
Hi I tried and thouroughly enjoyed Skype 4 Symbian over the past weekend. It was well time! Call quality to fixed line is very good and even a tad better than using the gsm connection… On the other hand, I couldn’t find a way to use my front camera to make video calls – Is this even possible, or will it be implemented in the future? That would definitely convince me to splurge on a 5800/N97mini for my GF.
I have an unlocked Nokia E51 which I am using with a PAYG sim on the 3 network.
The 3 website states that so long as I top up by a certain amount each month, then access to skype over their 3g network is free, (even with my own non-3 nokia).
However, becaue I didn’t get the phone from 3, it obviously didn’t come loaded with their version of Skype on it.
I have downloaded s60 skype to my E51 and it works fine when I’m latched onto a WiFi signal…but it hangs when I try to log in over the 3g connection.
I did get connected once via 3g but it dropped the call almost immediately and I’ve not been able to get connected again via 3g since. Got any ideas…?
I’m a hardened Nokia E series user and enjoyed recent evolutions, but only stuck with the e52 and now, the e55, which I really am very pleased with. When downloading Skype to the e52, not only did it happen flawlessly, but it worked flawlessly too. With the e55 however, not only does it not load automatucally, it suffers from the same complaint as countless other e55 users; I can’t hear them and they can’t hear me. Can anyone suggest a method for provoking the Skype bosses enough to have them command the boffins to make it work for us e55 users and at least not tantalise us with the inconsistency between handsets!?

Quality is very poor!!! on my mobile Nokia e51 phone using Wi-Fi…

Thanks

Guuuuys…implement video call for Symbian! Why Iphone had and we don’t?! Totally unfair!
