Why is this not posted int the Mac forum?
Why does my mac running the other hotfix automatically download this new version?

I downloaded 2.8.0.851 on macair w/ snoq leopard. Still get the error of “unable to mount database”. The “fix” seems not to be. What else can I do? I pay for this service (yes I actually do) and would like a resolution.

Hey, currently, on the mac, you cannot make skype not automaticly adjust your audio levels. You can on the windows version. This is necesary functionality IMPO, especially in even slightly loud environments.

Why does Skype say ‘unable to mount database’ when I sign in? I have downloaded the new version and this still persists.

Skype 2.8.0.851 does not fix the problem using the iSight camera for video calls in Mac OS X 10.6. The camera is functioning in Skype Preferences and in PhotoBooth. Although video can be received, it cannot be sent. Will there be a fix for this?

  8. renatob said 1186 days ago

Just downloaded the update because was getting a “Can’t sign in” message because Skype was “unable to mount database”. The problem persists with 2.8.0.851. I have a MacBook Air with OS X 10.6.2.

    Help.

    Mac OS X 10.6.2 and Skype 2.8.0.851

Crashes 1 to 2 minutes after startup. It takes down the computer so there is nothing to see in the logs. Any suggestions for where to look for a conflict? I was running Mac OS X 10.6 for a few days with Skype 2.8.0.772 and it seemed to be fine.

  13. loangt said 1167 days ago

Version 2.8.0.851 doesn’t seem like it’s working with PC’s Skype version. Tried skyping others, who owns PCs, and is unable to see their video but they can see mine. Audio is fine.

  14. shiyo910 said 1167 days ago

Version 2.8.0.851 crashes on start up on my MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.2. Version 2.8.0.77 crashed too.

I downloaded 2.8.0.851 on my Mac OS X. But I have “unable to mount database”. What can I do?

  16. zeechan said 1163 days ago

Ever since I downloaded the the Mac Hotfix 2, my MBP would freeze and turn into a gradient black screen telling me to restart. It’s really annoying as I have to reboot every time that happens.

Could someone fix this problem, thanks.

Same Problem. Mac Air, Snow Leopard. All the latest updates as of April 2nd. Deleted http://www….skype files in user and general profile, fixed permissions, intalled version 2.8.0.851.
Acceped installation. Opens up and shows address book. Then opens window for personal settings. Then terminates: Can’t log in. Cannot mount database. No crash file.

Any suggestions? There has not been any reply to these posts for quite some time. Seems like I am not the only one : (

Some time ago I had the ‘cannot mount database’ problem and I read somewhere there was something to delete (not plist) I has happened again, 10.6.2, MaBookPro. Now can’t open and Skype seem to be ignoring the problem. Anybody remember the original solution please?

I had a Problem. I want to share the Screen with an other Skype User. This works well but my mouse is not visible for the other user, so he don’t see what i am doing and where i am clicking. Is there a solution for this. I use the latest OS X an the newest Skype. Thanks.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on MacBook Air; Skype 2.8.0.581

Unable to mount database, oops. No Skype for macs any more? Windows only?

  22. lennycalling said 1103 days ago

I used to be able to jump quickly in between my long contacts simply by clicking on a letter on my keypad. For example I wanna call Mike, I clicked “M” and skype was scrolling automatically down to my contact names starting with “M”. This feature does not work anymore. Very annoying for people with “lots” of contacts. Now I have to do lots of scrolling .
Did I oversee something, or is this feature plane gone. Used to work perfect in Skype version 2.6……

  23. jaredchurch said 1085 days ago

    using os x 10.5.8 & Skype 2.8.0.851.

On one specific user account Skpye will crash when I select a contact from my list – my contacts can initiate a chat with me.

Skype seems to work fine on other user accounts.
    I have tried to delete ~/Library/Application Support/Skype & ~/Library/Preferences/com.skype.skype.plist

    And reinstalling with no success.

I have downgraded to 2.7.0.330 which seems to work fine.

Skype worked yesterday, but today I get the “can’t sign in” message w/ “unable to mount database.” I uninstalled Skype and reinstalled the newer version. Still the same problem. My other computer w/windows 7 works fine.

I have the problem of getting the message “unable to mount database” even after I downloaded Skype 2.8.0.851. I can still open with another account which I created recently. Could you provide us with any suggestions? I repaired my database by using Microsoft Office Database Utility just in case.

Your fix still doesn’t work for Macbook air. I saw a commentary dated February 2010 with the very same issue. Please advise as how to remove the issue, without me having to search through hundreds of commentaries that are not related with the topic. Thank you.

I also have the same problem of getting the message “unable to mount database” even after I downloaded Skype 2.8.0.851. I am using Mac Air with Mac OS X version 10.5.8.. Any new fix or suggestions? Thanks..

Very similar problem here: Skype worked fine up through the middle of last week (17 June), but then on 18 June, I got the “Can’t sign in. Unable to mount database” message as well when trying to launch Skype.

Same hardware + software as juliatchen from 21 june (MacBook Air, with OSX 10.5.8). I have also downloaded the most recent update for Skype. Thank you in advance for your advice on how to rectify!

Friday evening (July 9th), attempted to log onto Skype, and found that I had to reset my password. Worked fine in the morning. Made the change. Then, was not able to log onto Skype due to “unable to mount database”. I’m running the latest version of Skype, and Mac OS 10.5.8 on a MacBook Air. Help please – it’s tough to do business with this glitch. Many thanks!

I’m having the same problem with my new MC516LL/A MacBook. I didn’t have that problem with the previous refurbished MC516LL/A MacBook however. I was able to download and start Skype up and use it with no problems. I even did all of the updates on the previous refurb MacBook. Any solutions?
