Skype for Symbian beta release
We’re pleased to announce that we are ready to release a limited beta of our upcoming Symbian phones client, Skype for Symbian.
This beta release of Skype for Symbian supports more than ten different handsets, with the production release planned to be compatible with even more phones.
Skype for Symbian supports:
* Free Skype-to-Skype calling
* Call phones with Skype credits or subscription
* Receive calls on your Online Number
* Instant Messaging
* Group conversations
* File sending and receiving
Skype for Symbian works over Wifi or 3G data connection. We recommend having a unlimited data plan when using 3G connection.
We would like to get all your feedback on this beta release. Did you like it? Did we miss anything? Did you have any trouble using it? Did you have any technical issues?
Let us know about it on our forums.
Please remember that it is a beta release, which means that the quality is not up to our usual high standards. If you experience any bumps during the usage of the client then please let us know.

Tks & Brgds,

A piece of advice for Nokia E-72 users. Indeed there is a problem with the sound if you use Skype, but if you use Fring it works. Not great but still a solution untill the wise Skype guys help us. Hope it will help someone.
GREAT PRODUCT COULD BE GREATER WITH VIDEO CALLS.
I FIRST INSTALLED FP1 ON MY N95 8GB MASS MEMORY WHICH GAVE ME A FEW PROBLEMS LIKE WHEN SOMEONE CALLED ME THEIR WAS NO RINGING SOUND ON MY PHONE TO LET ME KNOW SOMEONE WAS CALLING ME. + I HAD TO TRY A FEW ATTEMPT TO CALL SOMEONE BEFORE IT CONNECTED THROUGH.
THEN I REINSTALLED IT ON MY PHONE MEMORY AND IT IS WORKING FINE NOW.
PLEASE CAN YOU ADD VIDEO CALLS TO THE FULL VERSION FRINGE HAVE JUST DONE IT BUT IM SURE YOUR VERSION WILL BE MUCH BETTER, 10 TIMES BETTER.
THANK YOU
Thx a lot for your great job. It’s a really nice piece of news for us S60 users.
Feedback
I use Nokia 6120c and installed the app. The interface is nice and everything is almost the same as the app on PC.
But when I make a voice call(both a skype-skype call and a skypeout call), it rings(really rings) for 1 sec(both on my phone and on the called device), and then the call failed, with the print on my 6120c’s screen “!Call to xxxxx failed”
Maybe it’s a particular problem with my phone.
If it’s a common problem on Nokia 6120c, I wish you could improve the app.
Thanks again for your hard work!
Hi!
I am very annoyed that the sounds do not work when Skype is installed on mass strotage. I can`t install Skype to the phone’s memory, because memory is not enough available.
I look forward to the next beta version, in which the sound to work when Skype is installed on mass strotage. I am pleased with the Skype operation. Where can I update the next version when it is published?
Thanks, Timo.
Hi Everyone,
I just downloaded the beta version of skype on my n95 nokia and it works fantastic. Thank you skype for making this application — it is great!
Sincerely,
Another happy skype customer
OK BACK AGAIN TO LET YOU KNOW OF A FEW BUGS ON MY NOKIA N95 8GB.
FIRST WHEN SOMEONE RINGS ME THE BACKLIGHT DOES NOT ACTIVATE, IT JUST DARK BUT STILL RINGS.
2ND, WHEN I RING SOMEONE I HEAR 1 RING THEN SILENCE UNTILL THEY PICK UP. THE PERSONS PHONE I AM RINGING RINGS ALL THE TIME.
3RD THIS VERSION DRAINS THE BATTERY LIFE VERY FAST.
STILL A GREAT PRODUCT. PLEASE FIX BUGS AND ADD VIDEO CALLS TO BECOME GREATER
THANK YOU
Hi, i installed fp1 on 5700, works fine, there were notification sounds when installed in phone memory. Installed it on memory card now and the sounds gone, i have use it for 5 hours idle and chats before i have to charge the battery(a new one), not to many chats.
Hello,
Thank you at first for your effort in supporting Symbian. I use Skype since version 0.x BETA and it was great to know I could use it on my phone.
Just wanted to add myself to the E72 owners list.
The client somewhat works and does not login when the phone is already connected to WiFi (known problem), but no audio calls.
At the moment i’m stuck on Fring, but it has too much delay and seems like talking with PTT radio.
BTW, keep on with your work
nokia 5800XM Please support it!
Yeah come on guys E72 is a brilliant phone! it just needs Skype! surely E71 to E72 isn’t that hard?
This is ridiculous..
when are we going to get what we were promised with the N97?
One of the main reasons I bought it, I’m so disappointed with the phone, and this is just another kick in the guts!!
N97 version should be first priority!!
hi users
i thought skype to skype is free, but i am using skype for symbian beta on my Nokia n85 and it works using WI-FI, but i have to pay using it on three.
will the actual actual skype for symbian version cost money as well if you want tp use it on three?? can anhone help?? thnx
First of all, real thanks for this version. Works properly on my E63. Tested a call to my sis and it’s real fine. And for who asked before, didn’t cost any money.
To the N97 guy, you have a N Series, this is for Entertainment, who has the E series, uses them usualy for work, that’s why Enterprise series, see the diference?!
Skype Team, Thanks again!
to smobicifilho..
We were told that Skype would be available for the N97 in the 3rd quarter of LAST YEAR.. I don’t care what series it is, I bought the phone based on this information!! I am still waiting..
Hi again
Audio notifications aren’t working on E63
The option is eneable
Hay Guys I Have a Nokia E55 I instle FP2 & also FP 1 . All Is Ok But I Cant hear voices . But Mic Is Ok . What I Have To Do Now ?? Can Anybody Tell Me How To Fix This Problem ?????
hello,
how about for samsung i8910? is that software compatible with the phone? My phone has S60 5th edition (Software version i8910XXII2) the latest version.
thanks for your replies in advance…
Thanks,
Since today i started use the new version of SKYPE for mobile on my NOKIA E90 and…..
I’m very surprised concerning usability and functionality. I will write more information and feelings after some days, when I’ll check everything.
My phone is Nokia N95, the use of the process, likely to cause a software conflict, cell phone restart. And the number of times a lot. I am a Chinese user. Expectations, S60 version of SKYPE, can be early released in China. Do not and you want to sound better.
I had the same problem with my N78, it says component already present. I have FW version 30.014, and the user guide says it works optimally with v20.149, doesn’t make sense…
I’m seriously frustrated here. I’ve installed this on my E71 and I have an Unlimited Country subscription (i.e. for UK). when I try to connect to a UK number I get a ‘You need Skype credit to call a phone number’ message and it won’t connect me. At least Fring allowed me to connect and talk, even though the latency from me to the other party wasn’t too clever (fine on incoming).
Mike
No outgoing and incoming calling signal sound, and no sound for incoming message at Nokia N78, even it switched ON in application settings…This is globally problem of whatever? Help…
PLEASE make this app for s60 v1 >.>
i know you guys are experienced and it won’t take more than a minute – power to the ppl, keep up the good work, thkx in advance
p.s. plz send me a notify when u get through ^^
Skype for Symbian S60 v5 is out!!
Works fine on my N97 mini!
Just browse skype.com/m with ur mobil.
Loaded onto Nokia E75. Problems outgoing calls skype to skype, it does not work. Skype Out to landline does however work. It works with all incoming calls and is clear using wifi or 3G. However, phone does not ring audibly with incoming calls so if the phone is in your pocket you are not aware of incoming calls.
Loaded into N97 mini.
It works fine, but I’ve seen 2 problems:
1) The big problem: it drains battery very quickly. Fring is far away in this area. With Skype open I can only do 1/2 day of normal use of the phone. The phone is also hot after some time..
2) See only online Contacts: this option isn’t saved if I exit SKYPE!!
Just installed on Nokia E52:
Chat: fine
Outgoing Connection: fine
Incoming Connection: fine
Other party can hear me: fine
I can hear other party: NO!!!!!!!!!
E75
Since last year I have been waiting for the E75 setting…Could you pleae speed up the process to enjoy skype as well
Pas de support pour le 5800 XM ?
Peut-on acheter du crédit sur PC ?
Is it a support for NOKIA 5800 XM ?
Skype is deconnecting when i call. Why ?
I want to know when will be supported all the N and E series phones specifically we need to support the Nokia E61?
mail me on
milosgta@gmail.com
Works like a charm on my e75. You may add it to the compatibility list far as I’m concerned.
The only minor poinnt is the way messaging behaves. When I want to start a message I need to press the first letter of the conversation twice. (That is, I need to press any letter first to bring up the “Write Message” box.
Also, just pressing the key to send a message would be very nice, compared to going through “Options -> Send”
I found a problem with skype on my N97 mini.
When a person calls who is invisible, it just rings but you cant accept the call.
I’ve tested it on my N86. It works, but few abilities doens’t work, for example, phone doensn’t ring when someone calls you and you are not able to set up a ringtone. But after all it works perfectly.
Thanks.. I love this mobile version and it works absolutely perfect when installing it in phone memory ( Nokia E66 )..
Thank you so much..
I have been using skybe mobile on my e71 for about 2 weeks nows; Everything works fine even over 3G on the bus. I do not understand why u guys have been complaining. In my vieuw, the only nokia skype mobile works fine on, is the magic e71
I’m trying to install the latest version on my 5800 (note: new 40.x.x.x firmware) and I keep getting “Unable to start operation. Installer already in use”. Am I doing something wrong?
Hi there,
Thenks for Skype for Symbian, it works almost perfectly on 3 Nokia E51 with Talks&Zooms. On one of them I have often signing in problmes and cannot fix that the problem, can’t sign in, stops in that window and I must restart the phone. Maybe that’s the phone’s problem?
I have to mention one major thing on which You must work to help nd people whom are using screenreader for mobile. We can’t read IM’s only after switching to enable copy/paste in IM tools menu every time. Can you do anything to make Skype for Symbian more accessible, to make readable with Talks&Zooms the instant messages in normal view?
Another thing is that Talks can’t recognise the icons (Busy, not at my desk etc) but we can label this icons with names. The reason which for I mentioned that I can’t label the busy icon cause i don’t understand the code of that icon. It begins with 7410 which is understandable but follows for letters which aren’t. Could You tell me that code?
Thanks again, good job!
exuse me what about the nokia 5130 xpressmusic, its 3G its works with windows live messenger everything and you missed out it, next time when your releasing can u please add nokia 5130 xpressmusic please will you??
hello guys i just bought a nokia E55 and i have a problem with skype i downloaded skype for S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2 people who i talk to can hear me but i cant hear them so plz can anybody help me to solve this problem .
Nokia 5800 Express Music
Symbian V31.0.101
Tested only WLAN connection
Fairly nice interface of Skype. Some things are not OK though. When it starts it makes too loud sound which can not be changed in settings. When someone calls me I hear too quite sound (no option for setting the volume) and the vibration works. However the ringing is very short and I don’t see a way to answer the call. When I click on something then I finally see the notification for the call. When I try to make a call everything seems fine until 10-15 seconds later when Skype says Call Dropped. After a few tries I quit the application. Besides the IM worked fine for the short period I used it (a few minutes).
Too much bugs for the moment as one can see in all that posts above. I think I will try another application like Fringe until Skype becomes stable.
I hope the developers check this forum for feedback on their work even if they don’t reply.
It has been a while since (dec 10th 2009) someone comment on: When there will be a skype version for Nokia N86? It’s april 2010 and………….nothing. Is too bad for Nokia and skype that such an expensive phone as the n86 hasnt been included on the N series list of devices that support skype, even though much later phone models are included. Guess I will still wait for any answer from skype or Nokia, but is a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG WAIT, since I got my phone, and seems no one cares. If there is a solution………inform me at heliodent@hotmail.com
