Skype for Symbian beta release
We’re pleased to announce that we are ready to release a limited beta of our upcoming Symbian phones client, Skype for Symbian.
This beta release of Skype for Symbian supports more than ten different handsets, with the production release planned to be compatible with even more phones.
Skype for Symbian supports:
* Free Skype-to-Skype calling
* Call phones with Skype credits or subscription
* Receive calls on your Online Number
* Instant Messaging
* Group conversations
* File sending and receiving
Skype for Symbian works over Wifi or 3G data connection. We recommend having a unlimited data plan when using 3G connection.
We would like to get all your feedback on this beta release. Did you like it? Did we miss anything? Did you have any trouble using it? Did you have any technical issues?
Let us know about it on our forums.
Please remember that it is a beta release, which means that the quality is not up to our usual high standards. If you experience any bumps during the usage of the client then please let us know.

Please see list of the known issue on our Skype for Symbian Wiki page and read the full user guide.
Please release a version to my Nokia 5530
What about 6120 Classic?
My E71 only works with the Echo/Sound test service
All contacts appear but it does not connect
It’s a bit “heavy” in terms of the installed file. 6 MB of free space required !
¿ Could it be used from the external memory card ? It’d be interesting that way, as to not clutter the phone memory.
Video conferencing would be a request as well.
Thanks and congrats on this for Symbian !
What about Skype for Nokia E52 and E55?
I Using E63, I can sign in in the first time chat / voice is ok. but could not sign out. and could not sign in in the second time. Who can help me?
Demasiado tarde, no creeis??..
Saludos, y seguir trabajando..
installed it in my 6120 c . but noticed it consumes lot of RAM and it closed after first login. then there after cant login it just stays there trying to connect to the internet. Please release a version for 6120c
Installed it, but just can’t open it.
Is there anyone can help me?
I’m trying to install skype feature pack 1 on my E71.
I have the latest firmware V400.x.x
After downloading the file, when I’m trying to install i’m getting a message on my E71 that the file is defected or corrupted.
The file that i downloaded is
Skype_S60_3_1_v_0_9_0.sis
Size: 116 KB (119,485 bytes)
Any ideas?
Great application for Nokia Symbian 3rd. Thank for Skype development team
Better sound than skype on fring, Login very fast
But need more work, in order to be a good application
Weak point:
1.Ring tone too too small, and can’t change to customize tone. No vibration alert
2.Comsume too much power at idle state( compare with fring), battery will go drain quickly.
3.Drop call after about 20 second if use EDGE.
4.No video call
I have the same problem with 78. It does not install
i am using fring from a long time but i just installed skype on my e66, works realy well, sound quality is great, fast sign in, but i will agree with the above made comments.
1: no option for change in ring tone.
2: Ring and message tone is too low and no vibration.
but in my case i made a 30 minute call on 3g and there was no call drop.
Hope so skype guys work on the above issues.
good luck and thanks to skype team.
“Beginning in the third quarter of 2009, Skype will come pre-installed on new Nokia N97 devices, and existing N97 owners will also be able to get Skype functionality through a firmware update.” (http://blogs.skype.com/sites/en/2009/02/nokia_and_skype_partnering_in.html)
… is it a joke …?
Please make the skype application for Nokia s60 5th edition devices (5800) available. Eagerly waiting for it.
Thanks,
On Nokia E72, this version doesn’t have voice support. You can’t call and you can’t be called. The only thing you can do is to chat …
Can you add full support for NOKIA E72 ?
How about E75 with Hebrew Support?
N97 & N97 mini – WHEN??? i have both.
As for N810, i have that and skype is great. I would have bought
n900 but no att 3g on it. Current beta does work for chat and sms in n97 and
n97 mini BUT not voip even via wifi or mifi. LOL
I think skype made that press release of having native version on either
by 3rd or 4th Q. Skype should have put 2010 not 2009.
Oh one more, what about Android? I need it for my archos also. Please skype, get you S*** togerther… n97, n97mini, android & all the others that would cause your users to use more of your service.
N85, WLAN.
After few calls sound stop work, does not perform call to any recipient, Accept sometime incoming calls but without the sound. Instant messages still works.
I swithed back to the Fring (they support Skype calls).
Thanks guys for Skype for Symbian. On my E53 it seems to be working, the most important feature – group chats finally has been implemented.
Thanks
Small remarks:
- In the chat window – could you change the input method, it’d be better to have an inplace editor, rather than a popup single-line editor stripe.
- The option “Hide offline contacts” doesn’t affect phone contacts, works only for Skype contacts.
- Finally: When Skype for Nokia touchscreens will be issued?
Thanks again.
Great work. Wonderful to use on my E52 with TALKS&ZOOMS. Ith is very accessible with this screen reader for visually impaired people.
However, there’s one issue that needs to be fixed:
No matter if I call someone or someone calls me, I cannot here the other party, but I can be heard. After ending the call, the audio management of my E52 FW 021.013 seems to be broken since neither speech output of TALKS&ZOOMS nor any other sounds are put out anymore. I can receive and lead incoming GSM calls, but that’s about it for audio.
I installed on my Nokia N96. I sign in the first time, then I was no longer possible …I waited for 25 min, but no log.
Re-istalling the software, nothing changed.
I have installed the pack 2 on my 5800. It seem ok, but I can’t use a wifi connection.
After installing ang logging in it start work on my e71(fp1) and e55(fp2) it drop calls after few secound. The i close skype… i reboot my phone and start skype… It start logging on and i sii that text as i terminate skype… I use my wlan acces point for skype
why haveto install skype to phone memory… It is not good idea… Meny phones have too little phone memory and memory card i have always space.
when for a nokia 5530, Symbian s60 5th ????????
hello All. A installed skype beta on my E71 grey and I must to say IT’s OK !! Almost everything is great – Now I can call to mobile phone … and send mesage to my friends.
The first feature pack beta works with my Nokia e75 as well, also voice calls. The voice quality is great even with 3g data connection, no voice delay like with fring.
Thanks for the beta releases!
I have installed Skype(Pack 2 devices) in my Nokia 5800.One problem:no input sound.Output sound is ok.
What about Nokia E72?
Nokia is getting so behind Iphone…I almost regret to have bought a Nokia instaed of Iphone.
For the moment the moment only truphone or vopium works….come on Skype, you can do it better.
Regards
I’m using an E71 – easy to install and the audio quality is excellent. Would be fantastic if video calling was supported. Any thoughts on when this will be incorporated?
pack 2 works brill on my 5800. Only prob is that there’s no vibration alert
been waiting that long for the app, for the n97…. think when they said 3rd Q 2009… they ment 2010+ ….shows what money can do, from these cell phone companys, skype or no skype, the ture boss is the cell phones companys…the best you can do is sell your n97 and buy another cell….skype dont give a damm about us… the users

Just tested with my E72 (FP2 version as mentioned above), installation passed flawlessly.
1. Contact show online .. fine
2. Chat… fine
3. Call skype -> skype … not work (can’t hear)
4. Echo Test … not work
Caution: If you already installed Fring in your mobile, this Skype will overwrite some VOIP service, it affected on the existing fring voice call also. Please do remove then re-install Fring after tested with Skype.
On the mean time, I do recommend Fring.
Nimbuzz keep freezeing my E72, I don’t know why.
Hope Skype will launch official version for Symbian soon.
Raul, I am hoping that this post will receive some serious attention as there are many of us out there that find this Beta app distressing, just go to the Forum and you will see that 95% of the users there are not happy with the app and have encountered endless problems. Also for an app that is being tested it seems that there is no feed back and that SKYPE is not monitoring the forum as they should, seeing that this is a Beta version and I would think that the people that actually test the app out in the field would be taken into account. It seems that in General most of the Smart Phones from Nokia are encountering some kind of problem. I myself have encountered a few and when the app was causing my E71 to reboot on its own, it was then that I decided to remove it, also as there was no feedback from SKYPE, I also emailed them with the problems and received no feedback. This lets me believe that there is no interest and Skype leaves their clients hanging. I reverted to using Nimbuzz on my E71 and Fringe on my 5800XM as these apps work 100% and have not caused any problems, the call quality using Skype within them is FANTASTIC. I cant understand why a 3rd party app works better than Skype’s own, oh hang on, thats because wjen they released their Beta verisons, THEY LISTENED to the publics posts and ACTUALLY took an interest and resolved issues in REAL TIME. Something that Skype should learn from. No wonder they have each won a number of rewards this year and continue to grow in strengh.
Unhappy Skyper.

When E72 support? A nice NY present for january 2010?
By waiting, I stay on my 6120 Classic.
Yep, the issue with the n78 is still present. I guess it’s some kind of FW issue or the .sis-file is designed to work only in some certain kind of environment, or something. I’ve read somewhere, that it should work normally if you try to install it on the phone memory instead of on the memory card, but I got the same issue, so that workaround, if working, is not working for all intact phones, but only for certain part of them.
For the record:
I have n78 with fw version of 21.002.051.1 (release date 10.03.09).
Hope you guys solve the issue as soon as possible, cause I’d like to use the real skype on my phone, instead of any dumm-a*s alternatives (fring as an instance).
Best regards,
vlex
No Video?! Why bother?
