Say hello to the future

Great news – we’ve closed the deal with the new investors.

The investor group is led by Silver Lake, and includes Andreessen Horowitz, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), Joltid Limited and our founders Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis.

The deal valued Skype at $2.75B US, with eBay retaining approximately 30% of Skype, and the investor group led by Silver Lake controlling the remaining 70%.

Our journey continues: say hello to the future!

So, Skype is not going under? that’s good news. I have long replaced my phone with Skype. and use it for home and business communication, loving every minute.

We all knew there was a bright future for Skype a couple steps ahead! Congrats

Good news, because I am a true Skype fan. If you can now make the decision to bring skype-in to Canada I will love and promote you to death.

I hope the fact that the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board is onboard that we’ll get some freaking Skype-In numbers after years of waiting…

That’s great news indeed. The future is now.

    Irony:
Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) and we can’t even get Skypeln in Canada…

    Pointless:
Skype now costs 5 times more than the phone company for skype to phone vs long distance charges.

    Congrats Josh!

Now that you guys have put that behind you, P*L*E*A*S*E get a FULL version of Skype out for Android 2.0 ASAP.

I’ve been on Skype since early ’04 and cannot wait to ditch “regular” phones forever.

Another Canadian here.. SkypeIn for Canada. Other voip companies do it, get on the ball.
e911 is an excuse for laziness.

  9. warren.aikema said 1276 days ago

I must agree, to keep the company relevant, you need SkypeIn for Canada!

  10. warren.aikema said 1276 days ago

    previous post;

    Relevant in Canada at least.

  11. dsartoros said 1276 days ago

maybe now we’ll get skypin in canada since the canadian public is an investor….. sheesh

  12. fred992 said 1275 days ago

Great job getting that done! We all were worried Skype would be a thing of the past. Keep up the good work. Now that is behind you, start advertising and get the word out to others.

Hopefully the Linux support will get better now. It’s sad there are packages for Fedora available which do not list any dependency. Installing is possible but running not. I have to find every package containing a library skype doesn’t find manually at this present.

DIDWW works well with Skype in Canada. There is no need for Skype-in, really.

But I do hope that Skype’s improved fortunes will bring much faster development.

Good going Josh and Skype et al! I will announce the good news in my Skype room for discussing this topic (Skype continuity aka Skype Future) – http://incomeassurance.com/skype/room/skype-ebay-license-dispute. Shall I close the room now or leave it open for you all? I wonder if the room should remain open – what will we discuss now? Any ideas?

Join the Skype room to discuss the future of Skype.

Link in previous post slightly wrong due to an extraneous full stop. Please use this correct link below for the Skype chat room post originally provided by Julie

all three of my previous posts are correct but I hope that somebody shall remove two of them plus this one but in case you didn’t get the correcte3d link it is http://incomeassurance.com/skype/room/skype-ebay-license-dispute

Awesome, so great to have this uncertainty resolved. I have been holding off committing any business resources to Skype services, but now I can start to reconsider future possibilities as they appear to be relevant to me.

  19. keithanthony0169 said 1272 days ago

It sure does give peace of mind and I always enjoy our valuable Skype conversations including the one we just had with you Bradley (entregreeneur) at http://incomeassurance.com/skype/room/skype-ebay-license-dispute

  20. juliewolf said 1271 days ago

Thank you Keith for making that correction to the link to my Skype Future Chat Room. And thank you Bradley (entregreeneur) for asking me to open that Skype Public Chat on this topic months ago, … and for suggesting (in my Skype Room) that Keith ask the redundant posts get removed here.

I do hope the redundancies (with my link) get removed. Can admin do that please?

I look forward to seeing how the new Skype Futures chat evolves now.

And as I know those on Skype v 4.1 will not be able to join that Skype room from the link, there is another way; …

Simply use the uri address for the room.

However, I do no want to post yet another link here (unless someone asks for it here), so … you could privately Skype me to ask for it. skype:juliewolf (use the Skype icon below).

And I DO look forward to the Future of Skype!

    I Love Skype,

I got tired of waiting for SkypeIn to come to Canada and ordered a MagicJack.

  22. jctcom said 1143 days ago

the_don_reba Why would we want to pay DIDWW $5 per month when a Canadian Skype-in number would cost us about $35.00 / year (Going by the current US Rates). Of course we still need skype-in in Canada.

If the CRTC would stop working for the Lobbyists and taking bribes from same instead of working for the public like they are supposed to be doing then we wouldn’t have this bs delay. I mean really they are requiring them to have a Skype-in number somehow associated with 911? Why a skype-in number is an incoming line. An 911 call is an outgoing call?

More bureaucratic BS and we want it stopped.

Get SKype-in in Canada. I have posted my complaints on the CRTC website where they have a complaint form and I would encourage all other Canadians to do the same and make sure you request a response as that will force them to actually read it. Also post there at least once a week till this gets resolved!!
    Carl.
