Skype 1.1 for iPhone and iPod touch out now
We’ve updated our iPhone app – you can now make video calls.
Some of you may have seen update notifications in iTunes or on the App Store on your device, but for those of you who haven’t – Skype 1.1 for iPhone and iPod touch is now available for download.
New languages
Skype for iPhone speaks your language – it’s now available in Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Swedish and Traditional Chinese as well as English.
Voicemail and SMS
We’ve listened to your feedback – Skype for iPhone now lets you listen to your Skype voicemail while you’re on the move, as well as send super low-cost SMSs to friends and family around the world.
… and more
Additionally, we’ve made some improvements to the look and feel, particularly when calling phones using the dial pad.
So – what are you waiting for? Download the update in iTunes, or launch the App Store on your device and tap Updates to grab the latest version.
Note: This version requires iPhone OS 2.2 or 3.0. If you’re still using iPhone OS 2.1 or 2.0, you’ll need to update to 3.0 in order to run Skype 1.1 for iPhone – it’s free (for iPhone users) and easy to do. Skype for iPhone is not supported on devices running modified versions of iPhone OS.
For Skype to be any use to me on my iPhone other than a novelty, push is necessary. So, I’m tossing my hat in for push.
Please add Push soon. Hopefully before 2010? Need it!
I’m abroad on business, added Skype to my iphone and paid the credit online at my PC. When i look back at my Skype app i wonder to myself -
1) How do i call ‘non-skype’ numbers – as that was the whole point of me doing this in the first place.
2) How do i text ‘non-skype’ numbers to at least tell them i’m online? – still no clue.
3) Why have you put a 3 month limit on non-usage of credit when clearly everyone on this blog has been asking for the same basic requirements for the last 6 months!
Poor form i say. 2 days ago i was a new excited user. Now i’m just another £10 poorer.
Plus 1 for push. I won’t be installing Skype for my iPhone unless that essential functionality is there.
Why send an SMS trough Skype if I can’t I receive one back? What’s the point? It would be nice to be able to txt someone outside of your country to a other mobile phone via Skype and be able to receive as well.
Push notification would also be a HUGE add-on.
Keep up the good work!
Just like everyone else…..where is push?? I use Skpe-in and out to replace my home phone but it is useless without push!!
I went as far as downloading iCall today. If Skype can’t fix this, I may pay for their service and leave Skype.
Without push notifications the only use that Skype has on the iPhone is to generate a call. Is completely useless for receiving a call. This is a shameful flaw on an otherwise good product.
I notice there’s been requests for PUSH since June. That’s more than 6 months to develop something which should be reasonably easy. What’s going on? Otherwise great app, but useless without PUSH.
Recently bought ipod touch thinking that it could be a wireless skype phone – but no. It is unbelievable that skype still doesn’t have push notification. When will push be available?
How can you NOT have push notifications? We are now in the middle of January 2010 and this thread has been going on forever — since June 2009.
I recently purchased an iPhone and discovered Skype as a new user. I purchased a monthly subscription and really enjoy the service. However, the omission of push notifications is a very serious flaw.
How the heck can it take this long for your company to include functionality that so many other apps have? Don’t you hear your users SCREAMING for this functionality?
Since discovering this basic lack of functionality, I’ve been seeking other solutions for long distance until Skype corrects this grievous error. I’ve also held off purchasing SkypeIn because without push, the incoming phone line is USELESS.
Get your act together Skype and give your users what they want. Seriously, enough is enough and we have all been waiting long enough for a solution. I’m amazed iPhone users continue using your service at all.
Sheesh, it gets me so angry and frustrated that you are dragging your heels on this. At the very least, communicate with your users and let them know you are working on this and when you will be publishing this update to itunes!!!
Well, I thought after seeing the date of this posting that some sort of Push notification would have been implemented by now. Seems I was wrong. What’s the point of installing the Skype app if it won’t even notify me that someone is trying to call? It’s akin to buying a mobile that doesn’t allow you to have a ringtone or set it to vibrate. Useless.
I guess once my month subscription runs out I will just let it lapse and in the meantime I will look for an alternative to Skype. Surely there is some other company out there that wants my business and will listen to their customer base as to what is important in an upcoming release.
1. Push notifications PLEASE!
2. A sound or vibrate alert function when a IM message is received.
We desperately need this basic functionality.
Both sound/vibrate notification and push notification would be amazing additions to the app
Can you at least give us a REASON why you refuse to implement PUSH? Is it technical, legal, lack of resources? It obviously isn’t for a lack of requests… This have been a #1 item since at least June of 2009.
Push, Push, Push, Push, Push!!!!. Skype, your service is Great… But is useless in my Iphone without PUSH!!.
iOS 4.0 is out and still no Push Notification? What the heck are you doing?
I’m gonna switch to something else I guess…
Please include landscape keyboard ASAP!
