Skype for Windows 4.1 Beta is Live
The long awaited 4.1 (build 130) is now available for download on the Skype main site. Read more here.
Releasenotes for the Public API have been included to the API Reference.
The notes contain just two items this time:
* Deprecation of shared contact groups.
* Brand new multiobject/multiproperty get command.
First sadly bug:
Hotkey “Focus Skype” close the Skype program instead of hiding.
(WindowsXP x64 SP2)
new interface is terrible at what kind of a bright blue background? I am certainly not a guru of interfaces and usability, but I can say with accuracy that the bright colors affect the work of … a large part of the look of stylized as Mac OS X Leopard, why not make the whole appearance of this style?? He is pleasant in appearance and eyes are not tired of it
PS: sorry for English
> Hotkey “Focus Skype” close the Skype program instead of hiding.
Hotkey? If you mean public API command “focus” – https://developer.skype.com/Docs/ApiDoc/FOCUS then
* it is not supposed to hide Skype window and
* as far as I can see is working as intended in 4.1.
If you want to hide Skype main window, there is “set windowstate hidden”, documented in https://developer.skype.com/Docs/ApiDoc/SET_WINDOWSTATE
Ok, I get it now. The Focus Skype hotkey in the Options window is indeed misbehaving. We already have a bug report up on this and it should be fixed in the next version.
Yeah, new Skype interface is terrible and buggy. Please restore the old design. I had to spend a lot of time to get used to it, and even than it keeps me constantly on the jump.

Videocall snapshots are completely messed up. Looks like a white noise with JPEG Artefacts. Black at the top, and thicker white “lines” at the bottom.
So I got back to 4.0 and it works fine again. My Webcam is a Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000
I hope this is the place to put suggestions for features, but I hope that they bring back the Skype Bandwidth Usage meter that version 3.8 had.
We are aware of Videocall snapshots bug and already in process of being
fixed by our video team. We applogize for inconvenience.
Is the call transfer feauture available in this version? I use 4COM and it does not have that feature. I desperately need it and hope it’s there.
> Is the call transfer feauture available in this version?
It has been available all along. What version of the com lib are you using?
In C# a simple call transfer would look something like this:
namespace CallTransferTest
{
public partial class Form1 : Form
{
public string TransferTo = “put your skypename here”;
public Form1()
{
InitializeComponent();
axSkype1.Attach(8, false);
}
private void axSkype1_AttachmentStatusEvent(object sender, AxSKYPE4COMLib._ISkypeEvents_AttachmentStatusEvent e)
{
textBox1.AppendText(e.status.ToString() + ‘n’);
}
private void axSkype1_CallStatus(object sender, AxSKYPE4COMLib._ISkypeEvents_CallStatusEvent e)
{
if (e.status == SKYPE4COMLib.TCallStatus.clsRinging) e.pCall.Answer();
if (e.status == SKYPE4COMLib.TCallStatus.clsInProgress) e.pCall.Transfer(TransferTo);
}
}
}
I also need to know if call transfer is avalible in 4.1. I have not been able to find it in 4.1 and we use Skype (3.8) all the time in our business. So some of us can work at home. I maintain Skype on our PCs (maybe 6 of them and they all have XP) and train people how to use Skype, but I have not upgraded to 4.1 because I don’t see call transfer. We have calls coming in to the receptionist from our SkypeIn numbers and they have to be transfered to the different people.I hope it is there.
Thank You for your help.

Call Transfer function are not currently available in Windows Skype 4.1.
However, it is available via Skype Public API. So basically, it is possible to write a Skype plugin (Extra) that you could install and that enables you to transfer calls with Skype 4.x clients.
The chat window seems to lose focus when alt-tabbing to another application and back to skype. I feel like I should be able to type as soon as I bring the window to focus, but instead I find the cursor is in the log window or maybe one of the menus is “marked”, but the cursor is still blinking in the chat window which is rather confusing.
I am using Windows 7 RTM and Skype 4.1.0.141
i am having problems with the video call feature. I will log in and when i choose a contact to call the only button available is the voice call. the video call button is not in evidence. I had to uninstall and reinstall to get it to work and then when i signed out and back in a hour or so later . . . no button. Is anyone else having this problem?
I hope some who is responsible for upgrading skype will readi it and take listed here issues under consideration.
Im using version 4.1.0.166 and so far it only coused problems.
New interface is not the best ive seen. Still quite poor dissapointing amount of options. No posibility for changing color, style or other aspects of view (skins).
Quality of video is quite good but it still keeps disconecting or freezing from time to time.
It seems that it doesnt support cam emulators (for example ManyCam).
When i changed the system date (im using win xp prof) skype started to crash and as a result i lost chat history that way, so how about fixing that bug so that doesnt happen again?
It would be nice if You restored the option of displaying fullscreen with posibility of writing same time, becouse i cant use speakers and mic all the time (for example at night).
It would be nice if You could also give users abiliti to change Skype windows sizes to smaller and Cam preview to bigger.
Still this version is not that terrible, but there is huge space for improvement. Maybe some shortcuts? It definitely needs more customising options. And perhaps some more userfriendly placeing of all the buttons?
Im looking forward to see those changes coming to life as fast as possible.
SKIN for skype?
Please with a BLACK BACKGROUND and whatever color text, (white /orange /green) – anything.
Glaring bright white of skype interface hurts my eyes at night. Seriously.
Just let us have a basic skin to kill the bright white.

Skype is evil because Skype will permanently keep your Skype account no matter what. After the time-wasting hassle of sending e-mail concerns and sending e-mail complaints regarding account deactivation and account cancellation when I don’t need these guys, Skype is evil – because once you sign up, their genetically-engineered artificial toxic will preserve their names and their personal data so they will never decompose and will never corrode as they will linger throughout the servers of soul-less minds. If anything like this, Skype will end up becoming like a landfill full of unused accounts, making it not efficient and not good for the server environment.
So before you sign up at Skype, you better think of a good reason about why they will keep their account names for no reason. Skype is evil.
Can skype show the current account name in the tooltip window of windows tray?
Currently it shows only “Skype” which doesn’t make much sense for people who run more than one skype.
Thanks
I like the older version of Skype, like 3.5 and 3.8, etc. for the following reasons:
1. The older version has better interface and arrangement, they allow for users to be searched while online and also allow users to search other online users. This new version don’t have this feature.
2. The new version is blucky where it takes so much space and you can’t be collapsed to make it smaller.
3. The coloring of tiny icons for those contacts on the contact list who have phones versus those who have Skype’s ID is much better on the older version, where each has different color (black for phones and green for Skypes IDs). The new version has one single green color for both which is confusing.
I am using Skype at the same time as about 3-5 other on-screen applications. The new design however is so big that it takes up a horrible amount of space although most of the features are unneccessary at best, annoying at worst.
The huge window is mainly due to two features as far as I can see:
The ‘Conversations’ Tab. I dont need Skype to tell me who wants to talk to me in a seperate tab (especially not with blinking orange messages which just dont fit into a blue-white color scheme), a simple little symbol next to the name would be more than enough.
The chat window. It might have been a tiny bit tricky to arrange the seperate chat windows in the older versions, but now i just have this huge grey space whenever i am not talking to someone.
I, as well as many other people I know and, I bet, thousands I don’t, have skype on screen while using other on-screen applications. It’s a handy way of keeping track of conversations and the status of people in my contact list. That’s just not possible with this large chunk of a window and without the ability of ONLY having conversation windows or the contact list on screen at the same time.
Finally and most importantly, the version really is buggy. At the moment, when I start skype, the tray icon on the lower right side appears, but skype does not react and not maximize when I click or double click on it. It also does not offer a right-click menu. This started two days ago and made skype impossible to use for me. Another, smaller bug is that the messages I wrote seemed to take a lot longer to reach their destination.
I hope there’s going to be a bit of an improvement, saying ‘there can only be one’ is not really a viable option if there are thousands who cannot use skype as extensively as they would if only they could adjust the window of didnt get annoyed by new ‘Conversations’ popping up. Since they might be using costly features, how can a single skin earn you more income, let alone customer satisfaction?
Sincerely,
Tyrgaron
