Hi Raul,
just wanted to let you guys know that the latest release doesn’t seem to install on Vista well. A twitter friend of mine encountered installation issues with the latest version; and was finally able to use Skype only after he installed an older version. You guys might want to look into this.
I’ve included a short writeup on my blog about installation of older version: http://kaleidascope.wordpress.com/2009/04/24/problem-installing-skype-on-vista/
But I believe this should only be an interim solution, until you guys resolve it. Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Ivy
Hopefully this patch might help with some of the unexplained ‘laggy’ instant messages as well
After loading hot fix i can not get by the I/O error problem. What do I do
Hi! Help! Can’t see my hotmail contacts in Skype.
just download latest version 4.0.0.226 still cannot log-in. Disk I/O error message always appear. If i want older version, is it still available?
am running XP sp3 and skype ver. 4.0.24.226 is giving me the problem of muting my microphone whenever i make or receive a call,
after unmuting it it works fine until the next time.
I have unticked the box for the option to automatically adjust my microphone settings and it still mutes my microphone, please help.
I am running windows XP professional and downloaded the latest version of Skype 4.0.0.226 I get the ‘disk I/O error’ message. Next steps?
I installed skype 4 and now I can not be heard. My microphone will not work no matter what I do
I am also awaiting a “new” fix for the I/O error.. and I already have installed skype 4.0.
please put back “skype me” mode back It doesn’t hurt much receiving spam every now and then. I’m still using 3.8; because it is much better as a social network program, but 4.xx have many new features I’d like to use with friends!
I downloaded and installed Skype 4.0.0.226 but I cannot login because of disk I/O error.
I just downloaded Skype today (05-04-09) and I get the Disk I/O error as soon as it tries to load. I can’t sign in or anything.

Every time my web cam video starts with Skype version 4.0.0.226, I get a blue screen and my computer crashes. Never had any problems with Skype before.
Not to be dense but where is the file to download? When I clicked from the program it reported an error & directed to go to Skype website. The only option I can find is to download the a whole new version. Will my contacts & history be saved if I do that?
My problem is different with Vista Home Premium. Skype 4.0 is ok in terms of call quality but, after like 2 minutes into any conversation, the system crashes or I lose the internet connection completely.
Talked to my ISP and they said it was a problem with Skype.
Can anyone help please ? Shall I go back to the older versions of Skype ?
Greetings from Cancun
Don in Oz; have given up on ver 226 on XP SP2; repeated disk i/o error prob on login; gone back to 3.8.0.188; now I can skype again; hurrah!! when can we expect a fix?
Gave up on 4.0 also, gone back to 3.8 and Skype is working again.
Don from OZ again; Moved back up to 4.0.0.216 and that is working OK (so far); it’s running on both a HP Pavilion laptop (XPpro SP2) and Dell GX280 desktop (same OS); i’m leaving it like that till we get to hear from the Skype techos that they even know there is still a prob with ver 226 re disk i/o error, and that they have got a hot fix. There are too many places where one might need to post to get something like this brought to their attention. No feedback!!
I see others are having trouble getting past the I/O error, too, and I am unable to sign in. I have Windows XP2000. Have had no problem until recently and all of a sudden my sign in ability was gone!! Please help! I have tried all the “fixes” in the Help
I am still having trouble signing into Skype. I keep getting the message about the “Disk I/O error”. I have tried all the help fixes and have downloaded all the latest versions. I am able to sign in on my home computer but cannot sign in on my HP laptop because the I/O error. Please help!
I too have done multiple downloads of Skype after getting the disk i/o error on Windows XP SP3. 4.0.0.226 gets the same error. I’ve tried completely uninstalling Skype and deleting the Skype folder from c:Program Files, then re-downloading & installing Skype – still getting the Disk I/O error. I also ran the windows DSKCHK program to find/mark disk i/o errors (it found none) – did no good. My hard drive is very new and no other programs are reporting errors.
I am using 4.0.0.226 with Windows XP SP3 English Professional updated to the latest.
Previous 4.0 versions has severe memory leaks. However, this fix has the memory leak too. If I keep running Skype for several days, Skpye will be using about 300M phy memory and over 600M virtual memory. Although I have 2G phy mem, this could bring down the system performance.
By using process monitor from MS, you can see that Skype access a lot of things periodically. Some success, some failed. What are you doing with Office? Do you want to access my Outlook list? and is there anything else I don’t know?
4.0 has much improvement in group calling. I like it. But please fixe the memory leak! I think it’s the memory leak that cause so much I/O errors. If no more improvement for memory leak, I will wash my system and roll back to ver 3.8.
I am having the same problem as just about everyone. Everything was working fine with the new version and then I started getting the Disk I/O error. I tried uninstalling and reloading the software to no avail.
I downloaded version 4.0.0.226 and I cannot authenticate because of the Disk I/O error message. I shut down and restarted my PC, I de-installed and re-instaled Skype, but nothing helps. Except for Skype, the PC is healthy. The OS is Windows XP Professional.
I have also started having Disk I/O error messages with ver. 4.400.226
Don from OZ yet again. Skype Tech sent me a trial version with a fix for the disk i/o error, and I am happy to report that the i/o error on the login page has gone, and it’s signed me in, and I’ve done a test call, and it all looks ‘honkey dorey’ or whatever your favourite phrase is. Thanks Dmitri. I’ll try to find the right place to place feedback. Anyone give me a hot link to that?
I have downloaded the newest version of Skype and I am still getting the I/O Disk Error message. Please send me a fix for this as soon as possible!
Thanks!
After loading hot fix i can not get by the I/O error problem. What do I do? can anyone help or send me a fix to it asap.. thanx
same problem here with the I/O error. does ANYONE have the solution for this yet? do we have to write to the techs to get the trial version that Don from OZ talks about or can someone post it here?
I’m getting an error message Disc I/O error. I click to restart Skype as instructed, but the message just comes up again and again. It also says to contact customer support. I looked for a customer support link, but could not find one.
I downloaded the latest version of Skype like it said to in the help pages. Still no joy.
I am running Skype on XP platform. This problem only occurred today.
Please can someone let me know what is going on?
Thanks.
Sorry, addition to my last post. I’m running Vista noy XP.

Can someone help ASAP! My husband leaves for Kuwait this Saturday and we wanted to use SKYPE. PLEASE HELP! PLEASE HELP!
From my previous post I have Windows Vista not VISTOM
No right click delete option for history entries.
“I installed skype 4 and now I can not be heard. My microphone will not work no matter what I do” posted on 1 May
I have the same problem. My built-in mic works 100% in Windows and I can record with it in other apps. However, I have tried all the options in Skype 4.0 and still it does not work.
Currently it is the only device installed in Skype, so it is not an issue where it is farther down on a list of devices. In fact my built-in mic is the preferred device.
Thanks for any help and for Skype itself—-would be even better if I can get my mic to work in it.
I’m having trouble with selecting a different video device for Skype. I have the latest stable Skype version with Windows Vista Home Premium. Skype seems to have detected a bluetooth camera so when I try to change it to my built in laptop camera, Skype crashes. I have now idea why there is a bluetooth camera installed or why Skype detects one but it is very frustrating to not be able to change cameras without the crash.
Has this happened to anyone else and if so, any solutions?
Sorry, I have Skype 4.1. Same problem though…
I have just installed Skype Ver. 4.2 and I have experienced the same problem as above. What is happening here Skype???? Does the Ver. 4.2 software needs a bug fix? Please carry out ASAP as I can make any video call at all!!!
