Skype 2.8 Beta for Mac
Today we have released an update to Skype 2.8 Beta for Mac.
We’ve ironed out some of the issues which found their way into the first beta release, most visibly you’ll see improvements to Skype Access and screen sharing.
We highly recommend that everyone on Skype 2.8 Beta for Mac upgrade to the new version and for others who are willing to experiment a bit to try it out. Please keep in mind that it’s still a beta version so it might show not act exactly as you expect from time to time. If you notice anything then please let us know about it by commenting on this blog, discussing things on our forums or by submitting an issue report on our issue tracker.

I got worried when there was no mention of any API bugs being fixed in the PDF release notes.
Still no mention of adding SILK codec functionality to the Mac version… when is this likely to happen?
And this is the first OSX release that has a built-in Bulgarian localization! Cheers!
Installed 2.8.0.438, it does not work calling.
Press the “call” Skype is crashed.
I download again and installed that same.
After setting up voice mail to use the default message. I called my own number and it just rang. Voicemail did not pick up. How does Skype know when to send incoming calls to voice mail?
What does inactive mean?
What makes Skype think we are inactive when we are copying with Vuze in Version 2.8.0.438?

Man… I updated to Skype 2.8 beta and it’s ANOYING ME!
I REALLY HATE that “Call On Mute” warning making my screen black when I’m in a video call…
I KNOW that I muted my mic, and it’s intentional, when I’m not talking, I mute the mic but it doesn’t mean that I don’t want to see my contact’s cam!!!!!
Is this a bug or is it the normal way?
BTW, I’m going back to 2.7
Could you please add the possibility to drag and drop songs from iTunes if I want to send a recording or podcast to my friend. Currently I have to copy it to the desktop and then from there drag’n'drop it into the chat window. It is really annoying as it takes additional unnecessary steps. I remember in windows it could be made with a simple drag and drop. I am sure that a lot of people agree with me on that one!

Skype continues to crash each and every time I attempt to initiate a chat. I downloaded 2.8 Beta and the problem still continues. I’ve been told by someone else that this is a worm issue, but I’m on a Mac and have done several system scans and my computer seems to be fine. Also, I recently purchased a new Mac and the Skype problem persists, even on the new hardware.
I’m hoping that Skype provides a fix for this. This seems to be exclusive to Mac users, for some reason.
Really unsuccessfull beta version. Crash very often while start ringing and while quit.
You did not fix the problem where mac users with a online number can not receive calls. (busy tone)
This is because Preferences>Privacy settings never get saved, and go back to “allow calls/chats from: Only people in my Contact list”. Every time you log off or put your computer to sleep, you have to reset this settings, otherwise you will only receive calls from people form your Contact list.
Please fix…
I just got a online number and am a mac user. I have had a busy ring tone. How do I reset the privacy settings. Can not find it in preference. Based on your email, I should do it every time I log out? This is crazy!!!!

I have the last version of 2.8 and besides the occasional crashes, the biggest complaint is the faulty security settings. I have my settings to only allow chats from people on my contact list, but I can receive calls from anyone. However, I still get the occasional porn chat request from someone that I do not know and isn’t on my contact list. This is not acceptable as I use my mac for both business and at home around my children.
1. The security settings need to block all porn requests
2. I shouldn’t have to set my settings to block porn in the first place — they should be default, and I should have to change them to allow such contacts.
On the contact list, the call button is the most frequently used, so it should appear first and be a bit larger — right now it’s absolutely miniscule. It’s a little annoying to have it on the far right side too and makes the interface feel awkward to use.
I am still receiving contact request from SPAMMERS and I have my security set to “Only share with Contacts”, I don not share my information unless they are in my list. Is anyone else experiencing this? I am running OSX 10.5.8 and Norton Internet Security (firewall, Norton Confidential), and people are still getting through offering me Porn..etc. Please address this issue, its very annoying.
Buttons in the toolbar and in the contact list don’t look very mac-like.
just updated to new version. Won’t even start. It says “CANNOT SIGN IN.UNABLE TO MOUNT DATABASE.” How can I fix this. I hate that uopgrades are suposed to make things easier and this is just annoyng.

OK. I didn’t notice, but maybe I updated to a beta version. I am using Skype with Mac Snow Leopard and after a bit of exploring the Skype for Mac pages, I have downgraded to Skype 2.8 for Mac Hotfix 1. This seems to have resolved the issue.
I can´t open Skype_2.8.0.851.dmg. It say only: Safari can´t open Skype_2.8.0.851.dmg. Now i have version 2.7.0.330
