Skype 4.0 for Windows hotfix
We have released a hotfix today for Skype 4.0 for Windows.
In this new release we have fixed numerous issues found in the original gold version of Skype 4.0.
I would like to suggest that everyone upgrades to this version.
This version fixes the following major problems:
some games minimized when started while Skype was running
users sometimes got Disk I/O errors
installing Skype sometimes failed in the United States when users had Firefox as their default browser
problems with compact view window positioning

Whenever Skype 4.0.0.215 is running, the “Show Windows Side by Side” or “Show Windows Stacked” function on the Windows taskbar malfunction. Both when Skype is windowed or when Skype is minimized, the function assumes there is an extra active window and allocates space for it. Closing Skype completely allows function to resume normal operation. (Using Vista Home Premium 64-bit with SP1).
I’ve looked around for the past hour and havent found anything about the smaller than usual font size in the Contacts List.
A few people have commented about this but that’s it.
Add a font size option for the contacts list or else you will lose out a good deal of your potential users because the CONTACT LIST IS TOO SMALL TO VIEW.
I know some design diva probably hates when fonts get too big because it destroys their flow but that dont mean squat if people cant see/use the software. Even I cant tell that the miniature green buttons in the contact list have a small checkmark while the miniature green buttons below have a phone graphic.
Im used to the inferior Linux version Skype has so I know about limited usability but this takes it to a new level.
Version 4 is a nice step up in functionality but I cant recommend this to any older person or others with weak eyesight. It would be almost cruel if I did.
Design is important but not at the cost of functionality.

I have just downloaded and installed the latest version and on my copy the Extras menu is completely greyed out! I was able to play games yesterday under the old version 3 and now the new version is not allowing any access at all to my extras – what is going on here (I am using windows xp home by the way)???
I agree with vlada6699. I have a pretty good vision, but I can hardly read the contact list on V4.0. I spent a lot of time trying to find a way to increase the font size, but could not. I did manage to increase the font size for the IM window, in the “Options – IM” menu, but I suggest strongly that you implement a way to allow for users to define what font and size they want in the contact list. PLEASE …
In the Italian version, each SMS sent to the 2nd and 3rd number of a contact is sent to the first one. Try this please.
I have Skype 4.0.0.215.
Whenever I tried to edit a contact’s phone number, the entry completely disappears from my Contact List. I tried this several times. How do I update a contact’s phone number? I even tried to add as a new contact, but that too did not work! Is this a bug?
I used to run Skype on a computer running XP and I had no problems. I have just changed to a computer running Vista but when I run the latest download (today) I get the message “Installing Skype failed : Code 1618 – Another installation is in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install”. However, I know that I have no other programms being installed. What is going wrong and how do I fix it???

i’m getting very often SKYPE ERROR smth. tiny window pop up with message “skype error” and some numbers, i click ok and everything keep working, but why this window pops up so often?!

After looking all over, I found this place where I’d like to add my voice to the request for a READABLE version of Skype. I am not a senior, I do not require any special accessibility. I just like to see stuff on my computer easily. The way it was, was fine. I will use the old version, but I’m sure it will get me in troubles, later on. PLEASE do something about it.
the quality of software is going down … first we had windows vista … and now this version of skype … unreadable fonts … terrible to chat with it … now I use it only for voice and video chats … uninstalled it from my laptop and reinstalled the old version.
Getting an error 1603 trying to install still. Was looking forward to upgrade, not so sure now.

I’m having an error code problem (Error 1618) asking me to complete my download before installing the newer version. I don’t know how to fix this. About a month ago I successfully installed Skype in Windows XP then decided to delete it out by uninstalling the program. Did it but now want it back. I also have successfully istalled Skype on my Iphone but want it on my computer again so I can use the video option too. Please help me in working through this problem (Error 1618 and getting Skyp back on computer – Windows XP).

I have tried to download the latest version of skype 4.0 twice now. At the point where I am entering the “create an account” and submitting my valid email address for verification of password, I hit continue and it cycles back to the same page. I assumed it didn’t like my email address so I re-entered and I got the same problem. I changed the email address to another email address I have with a different server and it still did not work. When I tried to sign-in, I got the Disk I/O error and to right click the skype logo and quit. I’ve done this numerous times and no luck. I even uninstalled Skype and re installed and the same error is returning. Help!!!
I was able to install Skype 4.1 Beta and it ran for a day, but yesterday started getting an error (don’t recall which one). I have Acer Aspire One netbook running Windows XP. Tried to re-install but now keep getting File access error (1603) – Error “Writing File …Skype]PhoneSkype.exe. Verify that you have access to that directory.” I was able to manually create a text file in this directory. Following the help blogs, I have tried to download and install the official version 4.0, the Beta 4.1, and even tried downgrading to 3.8, but keep getting the same error every time. Please let me know what I can do to get around this problem – I am out on the road and need to communicate with my family.
when i upgraded to version 4 for windows i had conflicts with opening secondary windows (enlarged views of images on shopping sights) when using firefox 3 browser. I also couldn’t open new windows in firefox or internet explorer 8. I upgraded to skype 4 2 weeks ago, so the most recent hotfix version does NOT address these problems.
The conflicts stopped when I uninstalled skype 4 and reinstalled skype 3. Please let me know when you have fixed these issues.
Hi, I’m having great trouble downloading skype onto my computer – after removing it in an effort to fix a ‘no proxies found’ problem. (and no this original problem is not an issue with my firewall as I got the same message even with the firewall turned off)
Now it seems I have a bigger problem. Upon starting download of the latest 4.0.0.227 version I got an error message saying that I couldn’t connect to the download server. I was directed back to the skype website to download the full version. When I tried to download the full version, after a while of downloading, I got an error message “skypesetupfull.exe is not a valid win32 application.
After repeated efforts, I get the same error message. Very frustrating and time consuming as I am working in a developing country with only dialup internet. Do you remember how long it takes to download a 21MB file using dialup???
It appears that this has also been a problem in the last couple of months.
How can I fix it????
I have downloaded Skype 4 and it looks fine to me. My problem is that I can’t save my webcam to it. If I want to make a video call I have to download Skype again, go into tools and reselect my webcam (logitech qickcam pro9000) as soon as I finish with Skype, the information is lost. What now?

this error 1618 is still showing and no where I could see any fix for this error. Please be aware I am trying to install the same version which is mentioned above in Vista Home premium. Would appreciate if a good fix is suggested as this is very very annoying experience from skype product
After downloading Skype 4.1, my incoming video has a vertical yellow bar through the middle of the screen. That did not exist in prior versions. Incoming video from other sources does not have that bar. Suggestions to correct?
Hey I have been running v.4.0 for a few months on my comp with no problem. This weekend i started seeing a windows corrupted file notification in my tray. Skype now can’t log me in because of a disk I/O error. I updated to v.4.1 last night and still nothing. I am running XP with firefox as default browser. This mourning i did an uninstall and tried to start fresh with no change in result. Any help on how to repair.
I am using Skype 4.1 I am unable to ‘DisableContactImport’ via registry settings. DisableContactImport dword 00000001. I read in the release notes that this was fixed in 4.0…
I have the same yellow bar issue as well! When I first started using Skype the yellow bar didn’t exist now its the only thing I see when I get to talk to my boyfriend. It doesn’t happen in Windows Messenger but convieniently Messenger giving my bf issues on the other end hence I went to skype. They better provide a fix for this or there will be many unhappy people.
i have acer aspire one 532h.. only with skype i have problem using video call.. bluescreen..
but with yahoo messenger video call no problem..
