Onstate launch a virtual PBX for Skype

One of our partners making great products for small business is called Onstate. Today they announced a new virtual PBX solution for Skype. What this basically means is you can use Skype just like a normal switchboard within your company. Because it is a software based solution, it can reduce your set-up costs and remove the need for expensive PBX equipment.

The Virtual PBX for Skype includes the following features:

  • No Hardware – 100% web-based, you do not need to install anything
  • Device Independent – utilize any mix of Skype, mobile or traditional phone lines
  • Local and Toll-Free – numbers available from 40+ countries
  • Direct Numbers and Extension Dialing – combine DID/DDI dialing with auto-attendant
  • Intelligent Call Routing – Presence-based routing sends calls to where you are
  • VeMail – voicemail messages are sent to your integrated email inbox
  • Personal Call Queue – callers can wait in your personal queue if you are busy – no more callbacks!
  • CRM Integration – works with Salesforce.com, Google, and other applications
  • Reporting – complete reporting on all routed calls.
  • Call Recording – calls can be recorded and stored on our centralized servers.
  • Video and Chat Support – works with Skype video and chat capabilities.

$38 a month per user???? Heck no! http://www.3cx.com and a $9 a month unlimited VOIP account can work almost as well. Its not skype but it works.

I think Skype is by far the best VOIP service available and by adding the Onstate virtual PBX system things get even better. But there are various software solutions available which will do some or all of what the Onstate system offers and at a much better price! Check out http://www.trybuysoftware.co.uk

On-State solutions are some of the worst virtual PBX/ACD systems on the market. I have been with the company for two months now, and in that two months I have experienced two severe outages, one of which is ongoing for more than 24 hours. One of the outages was caused because someone accidentally unplugged a network cable. My longest outage is more than 24 hours.

Aside from their outages, their web site control panel is extremely buggy and technical support is terrible. Do not bother with premium support – its certainly not premium. Additionally, some features do not work unless they manually do it on their side (like adding audio) and others do not work as intended. Additionally, the voice quality is terrible; especially as it applies to the quality of the recorded audio which plays through the PBX – when comparing other solution providers, there is a severe quality difference. Just call On-State for yourself and listen to their own recordings which blast your ear off and are distorted and have digital artifacts from poor encoding.

If you want a virtual PBX/ACD for your business, do not use On-State as your solution provider. You will regret your decision and experience downtime, as well as a lack of support.

Hi, we just released a Skype PBX product called Zaplee. Its not hosted but does offer the basics of what you might need. Its only $40/month for upto 6 users and $5/user/month after that (all prices in USD). Plus you will get support as needed. We’re not a huge company like On-State but will try to make sure you’re successful with our product! Download at http://www.zaplee.com/web/Register.asp and if you like it, PLEASE give us a good review.

    Thanks!

Hi Everyone – I have a dispersed business consulting firm where everyone has pretty much sourced their telephony and data infrastructure independently. However, I like a central presence to the market and have gone with Nextiva for a virtual PBX and 4 phone line and a fax. the team does not need the 4 phone lines – so what I am finding is I need a PBX company answering element as a front-end telephone number to greet customers, and then most everything can transfer to my extension. also want fax. am seriously loving skype and wondering if there is any way I can get this virtual compnay presence through Skype and its partners. BTW – I am paying like $125/month right now and the VOIP techology has been very awkward – even though I am relatively technical I have had a number of issues with the router in my house and I don’t like the IP Phone options… Thoughts appreciated!
