Skype 4.0 beta 2 for Windows hotfix
Two weeks ago we released Skype 4.0 Beta 2 for Windows. Now I’m pleased to say that we have improved it a bit. We have taken some time to iron out the bugs which you have been reporting to us over that time.
Get the new beta build with fixes. Bear in mind that Skype 4.0 for Windows is still a beta version which means that it might catch a cold sometimes.
If it behaves a bit oddly then please let us know about it by reporting issues in our public issue tracker Jira or discussing things on our forums. In case you feel you would just drop a word to us about in general then we would be more than happy to read it through our survey.
List of changes for 4.0.0.168 is:
* change: Extras Manager updated to version 2.0.0.63
* bugfix: “List index out of bounds” error was displayed on call phones dialogue when pressing enter without entering anything
* bugfix: At times, video privacy message was not shown
* bugfix: Call privacy options for Online Numbers were sometimes lost
* bugfix: Profile pictures management did not work
* bugfix: Take Video snapshot button was active even if there were no webcam present
* bugfix: It was impossible to remove second USB device from audio devices list
* bugfix: “Add contact” button was enabled even if nothing was entered into search box
* bugfix: Opening Skype from system tray did not turn off silent mode
* bugfix: French localization to Megabyte was incorrect
* bugfix: Call Phones tab default focus was not on phone number field
* bugfix: Voicemail was shown as MT67 in inbox

* bugfix: “Show in folder” button did not work
* bugfix: SkypeOut call to number not in contact list did not take focus correctly
* bugfix: Getting Started Wizard had outdated screen shot
* bugfix: Video was automatically received even if “Automatically receive video from” option was set to “no one”.

My “call phones” tab was missing but I have downloaded your new Vn 4 Beta and that’s fixed it – it works fine now, and the new look seems pretty good. But I have noticed that when “chatting” with a contact (which you now call “conversation”) you used to be able to see a scribbling pencil when the other party was writing a reply. Where has that gone now? It doesn’t seem to apper any more!

I have installed v4.0.0.206 there is no SkypeMe mode. Is ther a fix available. I like the version accept for the no SkypeMe mode
I have the same problem montynabong has there is no “skype me mode” to allow people to know you are available for chat. This 4.0 seems quite different but with all the changes Skype left out some of the basic features that the old version had. Secondly, understanding that Skype is a free chat service why does it not have some control over posted fake profiles with links to pornsites and auto responders? I find it rather annoying that there are 8 to 15 million profiles on Skype and 80% of them are linked to porn. I wonder what the real intentions that Skype and Ebay had in mind?
mine is the same problems i.e. I cannot chat with skypeme mode, nor can i search for users who is on skype me mode. I’m using version 4.0.0.216.
i am also facing the same problem as mentioned in the above post.i am using skype version 4.0.0.216.there is no “skypeme” mode.i am not able to find people who are online as well as make myself available for chat to others.is there any additional patch that i should download?

i wonder if this blog ever being looked up and answered by skype team who developed the versions which we make complain?it would be nice if we get suggestion for the queries we ask.

4.0 is great, but I really miss skype me mode. As a world traveler in international business, it is very valuable for me to gain connections from all over the world. Sometimes, I do not have the time to search for and contact them, but it is helpful when they search for me. Sometimes, someone from a country will add me and I will never know that they are useful to me until suddenly, I realize that I will be going there soon!

It doesn’t hurt much receiving spam every now and then. I’m still using 3.8; because it is much better as a social network program, but 4.xx have many new features I’d like to use with friends!
I have the latest version 4.1… It is just as bad as some of the previous versions for being difficult to use. The original versions allowed a user to see who is online displayed at the top of the screen. Now you have to search. The webcam sets up okay and then Skype makes it into a microphone without notice. Sound doesn’t work well then. Snapshots taken in Skype do not automatically save anywhere even when you choose save. Where do they go? My profile image is gone now and I can’t get one off my vid cam to replace it…not as easily as in the past. Want to Chat, forget it. No menu item for Chat. Want to get an invitation that someone sent? Forget it, unless you are online at the time it is sent, there is no message. There is a notification that fades away, but if you don’t grab it immediately, it is gone forever. The programmers who changed the screens obviously do not know that “ordinary users” not just hackers are trying to use the program. Too bad, it used to be a great utility.
Is it possible to get an earlier “user friendly” version of skype?
If I use an earlier version of Skype, will it allow me to communicate with other users with the latest versions?
