Skype for your mobile Beta 2

This beta’s a bit different to the one Mike was talking about last week. Today’s release is rather more pocket sized, and encompasses a number of improvements to Skype for your mobile.

    hi peter,

i’m getting “authorisation failed” installation error on n95 8gb after you choose “replace 0.09 ” aka beta1. any thoughts?

  2. ervins.grinfelds said 1686 days ago

    hi,

you are getting “authorization failed” error most probably because you have signed version of Skype mobile application installed, but latest version is unsigned (because necessary root certificates are missing for many phones and this blocks installing Skype mobile application)

please delete old version and go to http://www.skype.com/m to download latest version.

    how about for the iPhone?

  4. flareman said 1686 days ago

Indeed, when will you launch a proper Skype client for the iPhone? Isn’t it about time already?

After install application just freezes on the language selection screen. Tried downloading and installing again, same problem.

    YOU FAIL!

Hi Peter and other Skype Staff,

Thanks for all the work you guys are putting in! My only suggestion (or request) would be to write the iPod Touch into Skype Mobile (or on its own Skype program). My friends and I (college students) have too high phone bills. Adding skype to an ipod touch would allow many people to get on a skype subscription, save our money, and contribute to Skype’s revenues!

    Cheers

    Hi Peter,

Thanks for your response to my post on the use of Skype for Mobiles and Three mobiles free Skype minutes (http://www.decoder.com.au/2008/10/13/3mobile-skype-users-beware-free-skype-minutes-has-limitations).

It is disappointing that Three mobile donot allow users to utilise their free Skype minutes via 3rd party Skype clients such as Fring of the Skype for Mobiles Beta. Both of these clients are far more powerful and feature rich applications than the “supported” 3 Skype client.

Hopefully in the future this will change and Three subscribers will have greater choice in how they make Skype calls.

    Cheers,

    Decoder

I successfully downloaded the Skype app into my Nokia E61 and it worked fine, BUT: THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT WHAT I EXPECTED. I do not understand why Skype would develop a software that is merely an interface, way less advanced than third-party applications such as Fring, using the phone resource of a smartphone to make the calls instead of end-to-end VOIP. Both the phones’ hardware and OS support it, Skype users have been using it for a long time and 3G networks are fast enough. Why use a local landline number then?
I’ve been using Skype for years now, plus some of its services such as Skype-in and PRO, always surprised by the new services and features brought by Skype, but now I am just way too disappointed with this Skype for mobile.
I guess I’ll just have to go back to good old Fring until Skype developers understand the real need of their customers.

It seems that there is no response for the Iphone solution. I would like to have Skype on my iphone.
I figured that it would have been easier to do so on the iphone.

I am a bit confused about the use of Skype on WiFi mobiles. From all the comments it seems that it always connects to the GSM network, and charges you the rates of your local mobile operator plus the fixed line costs for skype international calls. My idea is to use the WiFi capabilities of the mobile, and use skype as if I am on my laptop, i.e. talk to skype contacts for free and make long distance calls for the skype cost without geting involved my mobile operator (only my IP provider with the monthly flat rate). Is this possible? Does it works for Nokia N81? What are the limitations of skype for mobiles compared to skype for PC?

You can use Skype for your Mobile to call friends and family abroad – so saving you money

  16. sammy_cr said 1640 days ago

Thanks for all the hard work, but please, listen to all of us on this blog. All we’re asking for is a mobile Skype version that can make free Skype to Skype calls as well as paid Skype in and Skype out calls though Wi-Fi or 3G. How difficult can this be? Don’t wait until the competition plows you under. We deserve it!

    Hi Peter and team.

Can you please provide support for Sony Ericsson TM506 on T Mobile USA. This is a hot selling phone in USA and users would love to have Skype on the mobile. I downloaded the Skype version for Z770 as it looks close to TM506 but it didn’t work.

    Thanks
    Ramachari

I have skype in italy, and on my mobile phone it says I cannot make calls in this region. I can chat, but not make calls. That seems silly. Fring can do it with skype, why can’t skype on skype?

I have a N95, I love Skype and have used it for years. I switched to Skype-in and Skype-out for my office numbers, since it’s so useful to have your office number ring on your laptop where ever you happen to be. This product is a cruel travesty, a nihilistic comedy, a tragically ironic misfit riddle. It is a misplaced lighthouse that leads ships to the rocks. It is a desperate breath of helium given to a suffocating man. It is a mirage in the desert. This is a product which gives you so much hope and then brutally crushes it. Nowhere does it say that it makes only calls which your phone can already make, using your Skype credit as well as your phone talk time. It is a product which has no purpose that sounds and looks like a product that is desperately needed and desired. Sell a copy of Skype for N95, I’d buy it, even if it only worked over wifi. I’d pay at least €25 for REAL Skype for mobile (fring has too much delay in the call to be useful.) Please stop distributing this sad program.

It’s incredible how skype haven’t thought in iPhone users yet!!!!!!!!
Hey skype, it’s time to do it, ugh?? As you can see, there’s millions of people asking for it in several blogs, webpages… What are you waiting for? What’s up? You better say something to iPhone users who are waiting for an answer. PLEASEEEE
