Skype 2.7 for Mac Update – We've made it better

Update: We’ve just released a beta version of Skype 2.8 for Mac

In the words of Ron Burgundy – I don’t know how to put this but this version of Skype is kind of a big deal. This latest release is all about those features you may not see, but make a big difference to how you use Skype on your Mac.

Download it now.

We’ve made Skype for Mac smarter in the manner it “just works” as it now supports NAT-PMP and uPnP which means Skype can now ‘talk’ to your internet connection in order to get the best connection, and thus give you the best Skype experience. The other major change we’ve made is something I’ve been looking forward to – it’s for all our friends out there in colleges and dorms the world over or for those of you that must enter a username and password to use the Internet on your Mac. With this version Skype “just works” as it supports “Authenticated Proxies” – so if Safari works for you, so should Skype.

Thanks again for your constant feedback, bug reports and support – it’s meant we’ve been able to fix a bunch of bugs and updated our non-English versions of Skype for Mac. If you wish to read the full technical release notes, check them out over at developer.skype.com.

So please go and download it now, and remember – stay classy.

It’s a new year, and I’ve made a resolution: Ditch Skype.

Terrible support, no software updates or bug fixes, no new features (in fact, many were taken away from Mac users).

I’m moving all my friends who are on Macs to iChat. It has multi-person video chats, incredible audio quality, plus screen sharing and the ability to share slides or photos.

Skype is clearly circling the drain, and I won’t be one of the fools who gets burned when eBay gets tired of bleeding money and starts yanking support for platforms like Mac OS X or Linux.

The only way Skype can turn this around is by releasing a massively updated version with a serious new feature set and rock-solid code. Given the inertia they’ve lost in 2008, I think it’s pretty hopeless at this point.

    I need help.

I can’t see my brother but he can see me.

He is on a PC. I am on a Mac.

I don’t have him blocked and from what I can tell I don’t think I have settings that would block me. Or do I?

I can see me so I know my camera is working. It just doesn’t seem to be transmitting.

I have surfed the help section but this issue has eluded me.

    Thanks for any help.

I just signed on to Skype for Macs and the headphones don’t work although the internal speaker/mike do.
The headphones (Logitech) say compatible with Windows and Vista but salesman told me Macs, too.
    Was he wrong?

I am using Skype 2.7 on my MacBook and it works great except that it uses @80% of the processors and as a result the fans constantly spin full speed which interferes with the audio quality. Anyone having similar problems and/or soulutions?

@drumstiix try downloading the latest beta and see if that does the trick
