Skype 3.8 Beta for Windows
We are proud to present the beta version of Skype 3.8 for Windows. This new version brings to you mainly quality improvements and slightly reduced installer size.
This is beta software, which means that we are still working on it. So it may not always behave as it should.
In case you see anything which is not behaving as you’d expect then please let us know in the forum for Skype 3.8 beta or report an issue in our public issue tracker Jira.
We are very thankful for all kinds of feedback.
Major changes in this version are new implementation of UPnP, improved audio engine and the new Extras Manager. In addition to these new things we have fixed numerous video-related bugs.
Read more about our new independent UPnP implementation here.
There is also one known issue in this beta version: you cannot send voicemail to people who have not authorized you. We are working on fixing this in time for the public version.

i just got a floating point error when skype launched for the first time…
Ver 3.8.0.96 crashes in Win2008 just like previous versions…
Can we expect this to be fixed?
TIA
Ver 3.8.0.96 dropped a SkypeIN call at 04:23
Ver 3.8.0.96 whole system froze during video call, had to hard reboot.
With this beta version I don’t need anymore to use Splitcam to see my video in a video call. Thanks! But I still have the problem with messages that skype won’t delivery, as i wrote in skype forum. And this is a very annoy problem.
Please submit problems in Jira https://developer.skype.com/jira/.
This version keep on crashing 2 seconds after being istalled on windows 2008 server.
As a developer i tend always to work on servers as desktop and its really anoying that the only skype version that you can use is 3.1.0.152 there had been some changes since which crashes skype completly after 2 seconds.
Yep, I can confirm that this crashes on Windows Server 2008.
The same with all other versions down to 3.20.175 which doesn’t crash on launch at least, but is crashy nonetheless over a period of time.
C’mon Skype, let’s produce a stable server 2008 release please!
Extras in Skype 3.8
In this version (3.8.0.96) doesn’t work my microphone! Skype doesn’t detect him. But Skype 3.6 works excellent.
I love this one, file transfer… 101 % done and still showing only cancel and > 24 hours remaining. Version 3.8 on both ends… and behind NAT on both ends. File size a few KBs.
With the new version, it’s very hard to find my video call snapshots. There is no menu selection that sends you to the folder, either. (Like 3.8 did) Umm, the only other gripe I have is the inability to see the status of a contact in my taskbar that I’m having a conversation with.
Is there not a Skypeme option in this version? Is there a way to download the 3.8 version on the official Skype page? From what I’ve learned, all that you offer now is the 4.1 version that does not have the very important feature and that’s Skypeme option. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks,
I am also having a problem with the new version, because it does not have the online chat feature for classes and have to use an old mac to participate . When I try to download off this page, I am rerouted to version 4.1. Please advise on how to download version 3.8 from the official site to avoid viruses. Thanks!
Here is a repost from the forums: I used the link to old apps, downloaded 3.8 and Norton said it was safe.
“Hello
Is there a skype ftp server where i can download 3.8.0.115 because that one works best with my skype extension?
Thanks in advanced
