By now, all versions of Skype really should show ‘mobile’ presence icon for users with lovely new 3 Skypephones. Surprised your marketing people haven’t been on to you about that(!). It’s important to know whether the contact is at a computer or travelling, for example. Otherwise – keep up the good work and thanks. Rob.

Since the new version 2.7.0, I have been presenting serious difficulties of sound and video,,I do not understand why you people have to release a new version when the one before was working with a magnificent performance ; I would like to go back to the earlier version, if you can let me know how it can be done , I would appreciated it.

I’ve been a happy sykpe user for several years now and this is the first time I have to encounter such a doggy upgrade.

    hi,
1st question _i work on mac leopard, i downloaded and istalled skype 2.7 because i thought i’ll get to see the same windows before me as the ones you show in your sight explaining chats. but the window i get is much simpler. with a gray banner on top. can i get the one with the blue banner on toop and the photo etc on the right side?
2nd question_ when i finish writing my chat is there a button i should press? how do i send the chat or does it go automaticly
3rd question i can’t get to clear chat history and some names with dates from 1984 are stuck there, i can’t get them off. thanks varda
ps. do i get an answer? here?

    {MacBook Black Intel 2GHz 2GB RAM OS X Leopard 10.5.2}

Errr… OK. Reading the first post above I would be excited about this new update; if I hadn’t already installed it!

Like the beta before it (2.7.0.95) this version will quickly turn your Mac into a hairdryer. The moment the video kicks in the fans are humming and the CPU is being borrowed on like a sub-prime mortgage. This, rather inevitably, leads to jerky video and sound blips and the app just takes over your system resources.

What really confuses me is that, lately, Skype’s ‘upgrades’ have been terrible for Mac. I have now reverted to 2.6.0.184 – which on OS X 10.5.1 ran like crap and on 10.5.2 seems OK!

Yet on 10.5.1 I used the previous version – 2.6.0.137 – which ran smoothly. My general rule of thumb with Skype now is to avoid the very latest upgrade like a rabid dog; sticking with the penultimate version.

If you can tell me why I should do this when I run a hi-spec machine with the latest OS then I would be very grateful? If you could also tell me why my experiences running Skype on PC were more gratifying – despite every other app and the infernal Windows OS driving me nuts – I’d appreciate that too. In fact I daresay I’d be amazed. Right now, if there were a decent alternative I would NOT be using Skype. (No doubt if my girlfriend had a Mac I’d be using iChat.)

To summarise, I think we might need a new update, already!

Incidentally, lechive – just Google either 2.6.0.184 or 2.6.0.137 and you’ll find them on sites like ‘old apps’ CNET and ZDNET; and various others. Uninstall the latest version altogether and reinstall one of those. This has worked a treat for me lately but I’d dearly ‘latest’ version of Skype to do the job for me.

i just updated my version to 2.7 and now it opens and don’t respond. it keep saying not responding. what do i do. i cleared the preference com.skype.skype.plist and its still don’t work. but when i use test user it work . so is there another plist item i need to clear or is stored somewhere else?

  11. markliebman said 1906 days ago

Doesn’t work for me either. It starts and then says it is logging in for about ten minutes on a Mac Pro with 4GB ram.
It takes OVER 100% of the CPU, the wheel keeps spinning, then it dumps core and crashes.

2.6 worked fine. 2.7 does not. I tried to clear the preference file to fix this, like the user before. But it still does not work. If not in the com.skype… file, where else is skype storing my user name?

I have a friend that is using Skype on a Mac at a university network that is very much locked down and can never sign into Skype on that network. I noticed on my Windows machine, there’s an option to use ports 80 and 443 which would, by default be opened up on the university network since they’re standard internet ports. However, I noticed on my Mac (even after the 2.7 upgrade) there is no such check box, nor can you use those port numbers in the port specification box. I’m not sure if she’s upgraded to 2.7, but she at least has the latest build of 2.6 which had the same list of connection options. Will you be releasing an update that has that option built in, or can you think of another way to fix the problem?

I’m using 2.7 on a MacBook. I’m now having problems with contacts. When I downloaded/installed this version, for some reason it imported all of the contacts from Address Book, and I cannot remove them. When I click on Contacts, Remove from Contacts is grayed. I can delete a Skype contact, but not any of the phone numbers it imported.

I’m having the same problem as markliebman. I’m on a Mac Pro and Skype 2.7.257 was working fine until the update from Apple this week that downloaded through Software Update installed on my Mac Pro. Now when I try to launch Skype, it hangs with the spinning beach ball. I have to force quit the Skype application. I’ve tried completely uninstalling the Skype app and removed all of the preference files and it still just freezes. And I even tried copying a 2.6 version of Skype from my MacBook Pro to my Mac Pro and it still does this same thing even after all of the preference files are removed.

I think this must have something to do with the Skype Code, the Mac Pro and the latest update from Apple the week of 3/10/2008.

My 2ghz macbook runs perfectly except when I am running video to video on skype 2.7. Sometimes it will run for an hour then the computer instantly shuts right off. Other times it will shut off after 5 minutes of video to video. There is no warning at all. It will be running fine, then “click” the computer is off. Any suggestions? I am going to delete the program and try an older version to see if that helps. I have already tried trashing the skype prefs.
    Thanks for any help!

Cannot SMS anymore. The latest Mac version is not working in Australia using Optusnet ISP, bad luck for Skype cause they are loosing money. I still need to try stripping all preferences, check permissions and try clean install. I also see that the latest PC version has the same problem. Better make it work boyz or you may be out of a job. Good Luck.

Have an Ibook with 10.4.11 and web digital camera with Maccam installed ………..double tap skype in application and nothing starts. Do need a lesser version or something?

  18. sgillila777 said 1479 days ago

Please add the option to use port 80 or 443.

    Thanks!

I had to ‘downgrade’ to Skype 2.6 to allow my conversation recorders (Call Recorder & SkypeCap) to work. Was that a Skype developers oversight or do the 3rd party providers have to ‘keep up’ with patches and upgrades?

    I work with Mac 10.4.11 –
I need to access the “tools” in order to have access voice mail – Where is it located as I can’t find it anywhere on the menu?
    This is really frustrating.
