Is anyone having problems installing this? I’ve installed updates dozens of times and never had a problem, but this one appears to install (shows progress bar, runs Skype automatically afterwards) but it’s always the old 216 version, and I confirm in Skype’s directory that it is still the old 216 version.
Yes, Skype.exe is closed before the upgrade, as always. And I downloaded the upgrade twice to ensure I had a good copy.
I’m on Vista, but have been for a long time.
Anyone?
Turns out because it IS the 216 version. The new version is not up yet.
Don’t you use any kind of proxies on your own or ISP side?
This can happen due to that.
Hi – just left a message on the wrong thread. Trying to download this newest version onto vista for a friend (I use a mac and have had no problems) and the video feed from the person I am trying to speak to freezes but the snapshot option appears to be in real time. thank you very much for looking into this.
I suspect a new “feature” (change: Audio device checking before placing a call and changing to windows default if previous device is not found) is switching off my microphone selection in Recording control everytime I start a call. Would be nice to be able to switch this feature off and see if this problem is solved…
I have same trouble, i downloaded the new update, and halfway thru installation says ‘older version cannot be uninstalled, contact technical support group” & “error 1603″ and quits. I unstalled/deleted all skype files, and now i have no skype at all with every download not working!!! HELP!?
Just upgraded to Skype 3.6 and I have a problem connecting with 3.6, the application does not see that I’m connected to the internet. I had no problems with the earlier version. Can someone help?
I also have just upgraded to 3.6 and also installed Windows SP2. Must be crazy doing both at once !
When I make a call I am unable to see my local video although people at the other end say that they can see me fine. What have I done ?
I have 2 problems and they happen almost always.
1. The video freeze issue experienced by susie84yao. I have the same issue on Vista but with only some people – not all people.
2. My whole network connection just drops to the Internet after I use Skype. I can go to my LAN easily and access the Internet from other computers on my LAN, but the comp running Skype just doesnt see the Internet.
I haev to constantly reboot to resolve this.
If I just disable and enable the network connection, it works for a few minutes then then when I start talking on Skype the connections immediatly drops to the Internet
Same problem as Xantiablues i.e.

Uninstalled, rinstalled Skype to no avail. Got me in massive trouble withe ausio driver for my realtek card! Hope there will be a fix soon! (this was on my XP desktop, so far no problem yet on my Vista laptop)

To complete my previous post the damage was with a driver called
WINMM WDM audio compatibility which I uninstalled. This has restored my sound in and out… but not Skype. I am not sure that problem is addressed in the Hotfix for .248??
Hi,
I have vista and got the latest 3.6 version of skype. I can use skype with no problems with all my friends with a mac. with people with windows xp they can see me and hear me perfectly and I can see them (if they also have the 3.6 version otherwise like for susie84yao “video feed from the person I am trying to speak to freezes but the snapshot option appears to be in real time”) but I can not hear them…..any idea?

Well, I can’t even install. Dreaded 1603 Error has reared its head. Looked at the MS Installer Cleanup and the supposed Skype Plugin is not even listed. C’mon guys – get it sorted.
Bug: With “Let Skype adjust my audio settings” selected Skype 3.6.0.248 deselects the microphone as the output device.

Ihave problem to install update new version 4.03 and oid ver also not warking, error show (1603) uninstall old version .When I try to uninstall old version error show msi file not found.
I had the same problem as bjoosse and jitindersingh1 My status.
I couldn’t un-install Skype becasue the msi file couldn’t be found. And I couldn’t re-install, becasue the installation crashes half-way through with the following error.
However,
Having attempted to run the new installer for a second time, it worked!!
Why it didn’t work the first time, I have no idea.
But thought it was worth sharing. Try running the installer twice.
